. tell the world i'm coming home . Damian blew out a breath as he reached the door of the great hall, managing to walk through as though he actually knew where he was going. He was getting better seeing with the air; he even saw details more often. Even given that, he he would have normally have felt pretty good with himself at his tiny victory. "Normally" being the key word; this wasn't normally. This was the school's Masquerade party, and he was just glad he didn't look like an incompetent idiot. On that note, he reached out for the currents the air conditioner were pushing around, trying to get a picture of the room. It was just too big, though, and he got one of those blob-y, indistinct pictures: a lot of tables and chairs, people milling around, and a bunch of something hanging from the ceiling.
"Shiloh, I know you never hear this," He let the sarcasm show in his voice as he spoke to the boy next to him, "but I think this was one of your bad ideas." He pushed air out to get a better look, at least, at what was close to them. One of the tables wasn't far to his right, and he could tell there were eight chairs ringing the round table. There was a story about something like that, right? A round table...Frowning, Damian shook the thought away. "Whatever. Where are we going, anyway?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quick decisions can be dangerous. but that doesn't mean [/color] ONE LAST THING: notes [/div] The two students walked through the Great Hall double doors. One with no sight and another with super sight; such an odd pair yet they fit together just fine. Shiloh tweaked his warm colored mask to keep it from tilting. His mask went perfectly with his eyes, the bright orbs peering out from the holes. Below the mask Shiloh's trademark smirk showed as he looked out at the well decorated room. Tonight would be a fun night.
"Shiloh, I know you never hear this," Had it not been for the teen's super hearing Shiloh might have had trouble hearing his roommate amongst all the students fooling around. "but I think this was one of your bad ideas." The teen just had to laugh, this one of his bad ideas? Surely Damian had seen him do much worse. Besides, it wasn't like the orange eyed student was going to let his roommate get lost in the crowds of people. Shiloh was one to look out for his friends, and he had already declared Damian a very good friend. "Oh relax mate, it's not like I'm throwing you into a tank full of sharks." He placed a hand on his blind friend's shoulder, pushing him forward a little.
The two students started to walk, some edges of the crowd shifting as Shiloh made his entrance. His reputation did seem to have its perks, "Whatever. Where are we going, anyway?" He zoomed in with his eyes and scanned the tables, feeling no urge to dance when the ball had only just started. Only a few of the tables were full as most of the students had congregated towards the center of the room to mingle. At one of the tables sat his cousin Daniel. Shiloh hadn't talked to him for a while and figured there was no time like the present. "We are going to sit down. You can meet my cousin too."
Shiloh made his way towards the table, checking every so often to make sure Damian hadn't fallen behind. "Hey cousin." He grinned and plopped himself down in a chair, inviting himself to sit at the table. His arms folded behind his head as he leaned back in his chair, smiling a little. "This is Damian, my roommate." He gestured towards his friend. "Quite the party eh? Didn't expect so many people to actually show." that they aren’t fun. [/center]

words // 455 // tagged // Damian/Shiloh/Rini boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A Daniel stuck a finger down the collar of his shirt and tugged. After taking nearly an hour just to get the tie right, he'd realized that the tightness was because of the shirt. It wasn't that he had a big neck, really, but the shirt was borrowed and not exactly fitted to his specific size. Nothing he did would stretch it out and he was tempted to unbutton it, but that would look foolish so he refrained. At least the rest of his attire was cooperating. Absentmindedly, he fingered the mask covering the top half of his face. It was his big splurge for this evening. He'd ordered it online and had it delivered directly to the school. Luckily, he had been able to find a tie that matched fairly well.
A sigh escaped him as his fingers drummed against the table. The ball had only just started, but he figured it was fair repayment for Serinity to make him wait and sweat a little. That knowledge didn't calm the butterflies in his gut, though. He went over their last conversation in his head once again, paying particular attention to the time. Seven o'clock. He was certain of it. Tugging his phone out of his pocket he read the time. Seven-oh-one. Okay, he was just being paranoid. He sighed again and forced himself to stop fidgeting. She would be here. Still, he kept his phone out on the table just so his paranoia would take a bit less effort.
The sound of a British accent made Daniel turn his head, and he caught sight of his cousin, Shiloh, in tow with guy he didn't know. Shiloh plopped down at the table and leaned back like he was perfectly at ease and Daniel laughed, though it was a bit strained with his nervous state. "This is Damian, my roommate." At Shiloh's gesture, Daniel nodded his head to the guy. "Pleased to meet you, Damian. Since I inherited all the manners in the family, I'll tell you that my name's Daniel." He didn't normally joke around with people in an insulting way, but Shiloh was different. Shiloh was a piece of his past and a piece of home. It broke his heart in some ways, that they'd both suffered so much. Daniel shook his head. Now was not the time for a trip down memory lane. "Go ahead and take a seat. Serinity's supposed to be here any minute, but there are plenty of chairs to go around." He tried to sound upbeat, but he was so nervous that he wasn't quite sure if he pulled it off. As always, his accent got stronger under stress and Shiloh at least would be able to notice the difference.

Serinity was a bundle of emotions. With all of them coursing through her body, the blonde had become quite jumpy as she flashed around her room getting ready for tonight’s masquerade ball. At one point Alex knocked on her door to borrow something. Serinity had almost tripped over something on her floor. It took her a good minute or two to convince Alex she was fine. Truly, she was higher than cloud nine. Daniel Ashford. As the young dark haired man crossed her mind, the blonde squealed and sank down onto her bed with a dreamy expression. It took her a moment to being herself back into reality, although she would have much preferred to be in her daydream. Wait, that’ a lie! Serinity’s eyes flashed to the clock and she squealed again. This time it was because of the time. “I’m supposed to meet Daniel in two hours!” Plenty of time? She thought not.
Thirty minutes before she needed to begin making her way out to the Great Hall, Serinity stood in front of her mirror looking at her reflection. A blush would be permanently taking up residence in her cheeks for the remainder of tonight. “I look…” her voice trailed off as a smile spread across her face.
“Beautiful,” a voice behind her completed. Serinity spun around expecting to see Alex. However, unless Alex shrunk drastically, had grey hair, and aged about 40 or so years, the person who spoke was certainly not her roommate.
“Grandmamma!” the blond exclaimed blinking with surprise. Lowering her gaze with a smile still on her lips, she said, “Thank you. How did you get in?”
“Your roommate was kind enough to answer my knock. Really, Serinity. You look stunning. So much like your mother.” The elder woman moved to hug her granddaughter tight against her body. The embrace lasted a few moments before both released each other. “I came by to ask if you would like to see the ball. I will show you around one begins piling in.”
Serinity was taken aback by the suggestion. Hesitantly she answered, “Sure,” before turning to look at herself in the mirror once more. “Do I look alright? Am I forgetting something?” Lillian shook her head and smiled at her granddaughter’s fretful expression.
“You look wonderful,” she replied genuinely. “Your date will be stunned into speechlessness. Do you have a date?” Ok now she was just fishing for details. Sighting, Serinity figured this was why she wanted to hang out all of the sudden. Lillian hoped to catch a glimpse of Serinity’s date to the ball. Since she had been hanging around with Daniel, the blonde had been very secretive with Lillian. It was like the girl didn’t want her dear old grandmother to get involved with her affairs. Too bad! I wouldn’t be a good grandmother if I didn’t get involved.
“Yes, grandmamma, I do have a date for the ball.” That was all she said. Even when Lillian was obviously waiting for her to tell her who Rini didn’t bother and left her wanting more. “Shall we go?” The two women left the room and began to make their way to the Great Hall. Rini only had to make just one trip back to get her purse.
Impressed didn’t even begin to describe how Serinity felt about the Great Hall. It was a complete transformation. “So who pimped your Great Hall?” Serinity asked with a snicker. Lillian frowned in confusion. She clearly did not get the joke. “Never mind grandmamma.” The two walked around and chatted a little. Serinity was seriously impressed. They had had events like this before but this was something on a whole new level. Of course most of the other students probably wouldn’t think the same. Most wouldn’t know how the other dances had gone. “This really is great, grandmamma! I hope everyone loves it.” Her grandmother simple nodded signaling she, too, hoped that all the other students loved it. It killed her if a student thought Silas was such a boring place that focused only on work and no fun. It simply wasn’t true at all. “Grandmamma, didn’t you say there was an outside part as well?” Serinity narrowed her eyes at Lillian. She was purposely leaving that part of the tour out.
Pressing her lips together, Lillian gave a short, sharp sigh. “Cheeky. Follow me. I think you’ll like this.” The two wandered away from the music that began to blast from the Great Hall. The party was now getting started and students were mulling in. Some headed straight for the food table, others went to find tables or friends first. Outside was just as beautiful as the inside. This part of the ball was in the Courtyard. It was beautifully arranged with lights hanging all over the place and areas set up for a little bit of privacy for couples. The flowers blooming all around were simply stunning with brilliant beauty. “It’ll look a lot fancier once it becomes darker.” A darkened dusk was settling over the school currently.
“Oh wow, grandmamma! It’s beautiful; I love it!” The two smiled at one another and looked about the Courtyard. Rini knew this place had a special meaning for her grandmother. Sometimes, she could swear she felt her grandpa’s plant manipulating touch still lingering around. Lillian swore that after her grandpa passed away, the plants withered and refused to grow for a whole year. Serinity remembered that distinctly. So much so, that the blonde would go out of her way to avoid the courtyard. Now, there wasn’t a trace of that sadness. “Grandpa would have loved it,” she whispered hugging her grandmother tight.
More so out of habit, Serinity checked her watch and gasped, “I’m sorry grandmamma, I have to go! I’ll talk to you later. Bye, love you!” The blonde spoke hurriedly not leaving Lillian a chance to reply before racing off across the place to get back into the Great Hall. That actually proved to be quite hard in a dress. By the time she got back inside Rini was out of breath from the effort of keeping her dress from getting messed up and being completely late. “I don’t know why I’m bothering. He was super late for our date. I’m only eight minutes late anyhow. Maybe I should go get some punch first. Or he could get me some punch…” Snickering, Serinity scanned the crowd and the tables looking for Daniel.
It was hard to find just a single person in this throng of bodies. Somehow, she did manage it. Daniel was sitting at a distant table with two other guys. “Guess the guys have to stick together least the pack of rabid female wolves drags them out onto the dance floor.” Giggling at her somewhat lame joke the blonde made her way over to the table after putting on her mask. She felt just a tad awkward wearing it. Along the way she watched the table’s occupants taking in their appearance, their dress, and how they acted with one another. They seemed to get along well. I wonder who they are. Stepping up across the table from Daniel, the girl smiled at him shyly. At least it was dark in here. Maybe he wouldn’t notice the fire truck red blush that decided to flare up.
“Hey, I’m sorry I’m late. Grandmamma decided she wanted to show me around. I think she secretly wanted to know who my date was. You haven’t seen him have you? He’s about so high, pretty handsome, and usually well-dressed.” she said playfully with a bright smile clutching her purse as if it were her only life line. Too forward? She didn’t think so! Her blue grey gaze looked over Daniel in his tuxedo catching her breath. Just when she thought he couldn’t get any hotter, here he went wearing this great ensemble! “You look amazing, by the way.” Oooooooo tonight was gonna be awwwwwwwesommmme!

. tell the world i'm coming home . Damian snorted in feigned doubt at Shiloh's claim the he wouldn't throw Damian to the sharks. He wasn't so sure that was beyond his roommate. Though, to be fair, Shiloh seemed willing to let Damian get away with murder, compared to what usually set him off. So instead of saying anything, he fell into step next the owl boy as he moved around the edge of the room. People got out of their way when the two boys approached - it happened around Shiloh, Damian had noticed - and they met no resistance in their short trip. Trip to...? "We are going to sit down. You can meet my cousin too." Shiloh had mentioned a cousin before, though Damian didn't actually know anything about this mysterious cousin. Meaning he was very curious - would the cousin be as...out-there as Shiloh? He sort of doubted there was anyone that out-there.
Someone sighed ahead of them, the air sliding against the AC's gentle push, and Damian focused on that person. Sitting at the table, it was hard to tell exactly how tall the man was, but Damian thought it must have been a little less than his own height. There couldn't really glean any other information about the man - who Shiloh's call identified as the cousin - except that he was a slender bloke, and wearing a mask just like everyone else. Damian touched his own mask unconsciously - he'd convinced Shiloh to pick one out for him, since he didn't want to look like a complete idiot at the dance - and wished again that he knew what it looked like.
"Pleased to meet you, Damian. Since I inherited all the manners in the family, I'll tell you that my name's Daniel." Damian nodded, already liking the British man. "That explains where it all went." He smiled to show it was a joke, and then continued, "It's good to meet you too." There was a moment's pause as Damian fidgeted nervously beside one of the chairs. He knew Shiloh had already sat, but he still couldn't bring himself to without an invitation. One that came only seconds later. Nervously, Damian began to hope that Daniel's power wasn't telepathy. That was one of those powers that still made him nervous.
Damian sank obediently into one of the chairs, making sure to keep a hand on the back so that he did, in fact, end up in the chair. Once there, he smirked slightly at Shiloh's comment. "Some people actually want to come to school events." As though to reinforce his words, a female voice approached the table. All her focus appeared to be on Shiloh's cousin who was, apparently, "...so high, pretty handsome, and usually well-dressed.” Damian was torn between the urge to laugh, an unwillingness to do anything that might embarrass Daniel - who had so far seemed like a good bloke - and an appreciation that he'd gotten actual details about what someone looked like for once. Well...after a fashion. Trying hard to keep from making a face, and managing to only smile, Damian leaned toward Shiloh and spoke quietly, "She sounds nice; focused. What's she look like?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quick decisions can be dangerous. but that doesn't mean [/color] ONE LAST THING: None [/div] "Pleased to meet you, Damian. Since I inherited all the manners in the family, I'll tell you that my name's Daniel." Shiloh rolled his eyes at his cousin's comment, though it was most likely true. His smirk grew a little as he took in the jabbing remarks. "That explains where it all went." He turned towards his roommate, elbowing him slightly while still keeping his eyes on his cousin. Just because Damian was blind did not mean that he wouldn't pester him a little. "You of all people Daniel should know by now that I find not using my manners quite fun." His eyes sparked mischievously, and he tilted his chair back onto all four legs. Still listening to whatever it was that the others had to say, Shiloh tweaked his mask so that it was straight. Nothing would bug him more than not being able to see well just because of a stupid mask. It wouldn't surprise him if he tore it off completely before the end of the night.
Daniel seemed anxious, looking around the room occasionally. The orange eyed teen raised an eyebrow to signal his curiosity. Lucky for him, Shiloh's cousin was quick to give him an answer to his silent question. "Go ahead and take a seat. Serinity's supposed to be here any minute, but there are plenty of chairs to go around." The teen nodded in understanding. This would actually be the first time he would get to meet this Serinity. Well, he had already heard of her considering she was the headmistress' grandaughter, but this would be the first time that he would actually get the chance to have a conversation. "Can't wait to meet her . . ." His voice drifted off as he focused his attention on the strange drape like things that hung around the ceiling. Something caught his eye and he zoomed in. Figures, spiderweb. Can't we ever get decent janitors around here?
Shiloh zoomed back out and turned his attention back to the conversation once Damian made a comment. "Some people actually want to come to school events." The English teen snorted, tempted to start laughing. "Yes, because I of all people feel the need to be watched by teachers even after class." He laughed quietly after his sarcastic comment and looked over to see Rini making her way to the table.
“Hey, I’m sorry I’m late. Grandmamma decided she wanted to show me around. I think she secretly wanted to know who my date was. You haven’t seen him have you? He’s about so high, pretty handsome, and usually well-dressed.” He had to admit, Daniel had good taste in women, but Shiloh was going to judge her by the personality. He always wanted to know exactly what kind of personality the headmistress had groomed in her. "Hey. I don't think we've met. The name is Shiloh, Daniel's cousin actually." The smirk had returned, "Me and your grandmother have met on several occasions. Not quite so pleasant . . ."
"She sounds nice; focused. What's she look like?" Shiloh flicked his orange eyes over to Damian at the question. Oh he just couldn't resist, "She's pretty and blonde Damian. No need to be shy, speak up mate." While Damian's voice had been a whisper, Shiloh made sure to keep his at normal speaking level. The striking eyed teen had no shame in embarrassing his friends every once and a while and Damian gave him an opportunity that he just couldn't refuse. that they aren’t fun. [/center]

words // 830 // tagged // Damian/Shiloh/Rini boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A "That explains where it all went." Daniel was amused at the comment, but a bit taken aback at the obvious Irish lilt. He began to wonder if there were any actual American students at Silas. He knew there were, of course, but it seemed that a great number of them were foreign in some way. He allowed himself a grin that grew wider when Shiloh elbowed Damian. It seemed that the two of them knew each other well and got along accordingly. It was a good thing, too, considering Shiloh's temperment. "You of all people, Daniel, should know by now that I find not using my manners quite fun." Daniel chuckled softly. "Truer words have never been spoken." He checked his phone.
Only recently had Daniel been able to get to know his cousin. As someone who might possibly be the last remaining member of his family, Shiloh could get away with quite a lot before Daniel finally got fed up with his combative nature. Shiloh didn't used to be like that. Well, that wasn't quite true. He'd always been opinionated, but the difference now was that he voiced his thoughts without considering who he was talking to. It was just more proof of how much each of them had gone through, and he knew there were many other students at the academy with similar stories. It was a bit sad, really, and everyone reacted to their trauma differently. Some were sad about it, others were more well adjusted. Some were like Shiloh and took it out on people who didn't deserve it. At the same time, none of it was fair.
Daniel sighed and looked at his phone again. Seven-oh-seven. It seemed the butterflies in his stomach had learned the tango in the past seven minutes. He swalllowed in an attempt to get them to behave, but it didn't do him any good. Just as he was rubbing his palms against his thighs, saw a beautiful blonde walk into the great hall. His lips slowly parted and he swore his heart skipped a beat. The butterflies were gone. She looked like an angel, and he couldn't take his eyes off of her as she caught sight of him and came up to the table. "Hey, I’m sorry I’m late. Grandmamma decided she wanted to show me around. I think she secretly wanted to know who my date was. You haven’t seen him have you? He’s about so high, pretty handsome, and usually well-dressed." Daniel was slow to process her words and he was pretty sure he looked like he'd just been knocked between the eyes with a bat. Beautiful. It was really the only thing he could think of.
Leave it to Shiloh to knock him back to reality. "Hey. I don't think we've met. The name is Shiloh, Daniel's cousin actually. Me and your grandmother have met on several occasions. Not quite so pleasant..." Daniel closed his eyes and resisted the urge to hide under the table to hide the part of his face that was uncovered. This was not going at all how it was supposed to go. He was supposed to smile and compliment on her dress before getting them some punch. He was not supposed to sit there like an fool while his cousin made introductions. "She's pretty and blonde Damian. No need to be shy, speak up mate." Daniel finally tore his eyes away from Serinity and glanced at Damian... who was apparently blind. With a small smile, he stood up and brought his eyes back to Rini's blue gray ones. "Shiloh has it all wrong, Damian." "Blonde" didn't describe the way the light danced in her hair. "Pretty" didn't capture how completely breathtaking she was.
There were things he could say to describe her. Her dress was blue. She was slender. None of it did her justice. Then again, he'd sound like a really bad poet if he said half the things that were going through his head. What really made Serinity the person she was could be found in the way her lips curved when she smiled and in the shape of her eyes. There was no way he was saying any of that and Shiloh's description started to look halfway decent. He addressed Damian again without taking his eyes from the woman in front of him. "She's gorgeous." Still smiling, he walked around the edge of the table until he was standing right in front of her. Any other time, this would look ridiculous, but Daniel felt like the atmosphere called for it. He reached out and took her hand, bringing it up to his lips gently. "You look way better than I do. I can guarantee it." His grin continued to get wider and there didn't seem to be anything he could do to stop it. "To tell you the truth, the collar of this shirt has it in for me. It has its heart set on my slow and painful death."

[atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][atrb=background,http://i56.tinypic.com/20hldp2.png,true]A little surprised, Daniel wasn’t the first one to speak to her. Serinity turned to the guy sitting across from Daniel who introduced himself as Shiloh. Politely she offered him a smile. When his words sunk in, Serinity blinked a time or two mulling over just one word Shiloh had said. “Ahh, hah. Yeeeah, sorry about my grandmamma.” The blonde turned back to Daniel not wanting to look away for too long. He might suddenly disappear in a flash of sparkles or something extreme like one of Tara’s epic disappearances from the cbox. “I didn’t know you had family here! That’s pretty cool.” Hearing that, especially from someone else, really made Serinity aware of the fact that she knew very little about Daniel and like wise. In a small way it kind of hurt knowing they weren’t as close as she’d like to be. In the future, that would hopefully change. Although one couldn’t rush a relationship. That did absolutely no good.
The third guy sitting at the table leaned into Shiloh and whispered something Serinity couldn’t make out over the noise of the music. Her eyes flickered down to her blue purse as she fiddled with the clasp pretending like she was fixing it. In reality, the girl was trying to shake off the feeling that the other guy was saying something about her. As if to confirm her suspicions, Daniel’s cousin (loudly) replied to his right hand man causing Serinity to blush an angry red. Man, the redness was just going away, too! Figuring from the reply, Rini guessed Damian, as he was known, had asked what she looked like. Her attention turned to the guy as she glanced over him trying to be inconspicuous about it. Was he blind? At least he said I was pretty and not fat or ugly…
Self-consciously, the girl rubbed her right arm biting her lip and looking anywhere but the table. A chair slid across the floor with a grinding noise causing her attention to be thrown into Daniel’s direction seeing as he was the one who stood and spoke. Daniel’s words, however, did not do anything to help with Serinity’s self-confidence. He doesn’t think I’m pretty? she couldn’t help but ask herself biting her lip again. She desperately wanted to look away but his stunningly clear blue eyes held her captive in their gaze. They were a trap! In the most unexpected way, Daniel corrected Shiloh. ”She’s gorgeous.” Right then and there the girl’s breath caught in her chest. She pictured herself in a movie where the heroine lifted her hands to her chest and gasped excitedly only to warmly embrace her lover. In reality, Serinity stood there dumbstruck blushing hotter than she ever had before.
Her date was then walked toward her to take up her hand and … kiss the back of it?! Movie scene Serinity envisioned herself, again, flinging her arms around Daniel’s neck and throwing all care to the wind to passionately kiss him right on the lips. Back to reality. The blonde’s mind physically shut down as she stood there feeling his lips press against the back of her hand. Warmth exploded from his touch sending the strangest, yet pleasant, tingling sensation all throughout her body. It spread from her hand shooting up to her head before falling down into her toes. Giddily, Serinity smiled and listened as he continued. It was hard to take in the words, though. Something about a collar. Oh, his shirt collar. Daniel was talking about his shirt collar.
Without thinking about the action, Rini’s hand went out to touch Daniel’s collar and set it right. Or at least as best as she could manage. The guy wasn’t kidding when he said the darn thing had it out for him! Her hand didn’t return to her side, however. Instead, Serinity’s hand remain on Daniel’s collar momentarily before sliding down a little further onto his chest. She wasn’t paying attention, though. The love-struck girl’s twinkling blue eyes were focused entirely on Daniel’s own. Her lips flickered into a warm smile. It was so magically, so fairytale like.
Another chair grinded against the Great Hall floor startling Serinity into a jump. Her hand quickly left Daniel’s chest and returned to its rightful place beside her. The fingertips still tingling from the contact. If it was like that every time Serinity touched him, she would never want to leg go. The blonde cleared her throat and peered at Shiloh, the dastardly chair-kicker, and Damian for a moment before looking away with embarrassment. She wasn’t too big on public displays of affection, unless the time called for it; so, having someone witness such a private moment was slightly stressful. “Would you like to get some punch?” It was the only thing her mind could come up. Her poor mind was still trying to recover from Daniel’s kiss.

. tell the world i'm coming home . Damian took Shiloh's elbowing with a laugh; he had known Shiloh's reaction would be something like that. "Yes, because I of all people feel the need to be watched by teachers even after class." It was too easy to resist, and as Damian opened his mouth he realized with some amusement that he might be spending too much time around Shiloh. "You might not feel the need to have teachers watching you all the time, but everyone else does." His hands went up defensively as he spoke, sure Shiloh wouldn't take that without at least elbowing him again.
Serinity's arrival might have saved him, as Shiloh seemed distracted giving his own introduction. It seemed there had been some sort of trouble between Shiloh and Serinity's grandmother, and Damian wondered who the girl's grandmother was. The headmistresses had a granddaughter - and he wouldn't be surprised to find out Shiloh was having trouble with the Headmistress - but Damian didn't know the granddaughter's name. Could it be Serinity? He wished - not for the first time - that relatives sounded similar, so he could tell things like that more easily...
"She's pretty and blonde Damian. No need to be shy, speak up mate." Damian dropped his face into his hands at Shiloh's loud words, resolving never to ask his roommate anything again. So far it hadn't been worth it. Without raising his head, he twisted and kicked toward Shiloh's voice - which meant he would either hit his roommate's leg or the chair's leg. Before he could say anything, however, Daniel spoke. "Shiloh has it all wrong, Damian." Got it wrong? So...his date was ugly? Not blonde? Damian frowned slightly; that seemed like a really good way to lose a date. It also didn't make sense...why would Daniel bring someone he didn't think was pretty, and then tell her he thought that? A moment later Shiloh's cousin cleared it up, adding ”She’s gorgeous.” Aah...that seemed like a really good way to keep a date.
He could hear Daniel stand and start to move around the table without saying anything. He took a chance, hoping it wasn't a completely inappropriate time, and smiled toward Serinity's voice. "I can't see if what they're saying is true, but you have a beautiful voice." As soon as the words were out, he felt embarrassed for having said them; he wasn't very good at giving compliments. Fortunately, Daniel began speaking again, claiming his shirt was trying to kill him. Smiling, Damian turned slightly toward Shiloh. "Maybe he'd be willing to trade with you. Then I'd have Radar and the dorm room to myself!" This was starting to sound like a plan. He started to chuckle, realizing too late that it had followed Serinity's question. Flushing once more, he cleared his throat and mumbled, "Er...sorry..." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quick decisions can be dangerous. but that doesn't mean [/color] ONE LAST THING: None [/div] "You might not feel the need to have teachers watching you all the time, but everyone else does." Shiloh rolled his eyes at his roommate's comment. He was about to make another smart ass remark when Serinity came and the whole table began making their introductions. "Ahh, hah. Yeeeah, sorry about my grandmamma." He waved his hand to dismiss the apology. "Not your fault . . . technically not the headmistress' fault either." Another cheeky smile flashed on his face. The girl looked nice enough, and she already seemed to be able to roll with the jabs that Shiloh dished out. Serenity had basically passed the first impression test, provided that she not suddenly say something stupid.
“I didn’t know you had family here! That’s pretty cool.” Shiloh focused his bright eyes on his cousin, tossing him a questioning look. "How could you not tell her about me? Your one and only cousin." He made a sad look yet the laughter in his eyes shone through brilliantly, "That hurts Daniel." The teen let his sad exression crack as he let out a short laugh. He knew that his cousin would get him back for this, but that wasn't going to stop him from enjoying the moment.
"Shiloh has it all wrong, Damian." The teen raised an eyebrow, his description seemed accurate enough to him. Or maybe she wasn't a real blond? His eyes flicked up to look at Rini's hair and scanned them for any dark roots. There were none. "She's gorgeous." His cousin then kissed the girl's hand, causing her to look as though she could just melt. While anyone else would probably sigh at the cute scene, all Shiloh could do was roll his eyes and groan. He himself wasn't much of a romantic, in fact he found that a lot of girls ruined his fun by thinking that they could change him and make him a proper citizen. His reputation and personality showed no signs of changing, so any girl that thought they could do so was wasting their time.
Damian suddenly decided to make a comment. "I can't see if what they're saying is true, but you have a beautiful voice." Shiloh cast Damian a look of disbelief; could his friend really be trying to put the moves on his cousin's girl? This was exactly the thing that Shiloh hated about romance. He tried to keep a little optimism about the situation though, and convinced himself that Damian was just trying to be polite. "You look way better than I do. I can guarantee it. To tell you the truth, the collar of this shirt has it in for me. It has its heart set on my slow and painful death." There we go, bring back the jokes and toss away the gooey feelings.
Shiloh felt Damian's eyes on him and turned to face him. His roommate wore a smile that had a little hint of humor, peaking his interest before the blind student had even spoke. "Maybe he'd be willing to trade with you. Then I'd have Radar and the dorm room to myself!" Shiloh smirked, contemplating whether or not to elbow his roommate again. He decided against it and instead lead with another snarky comment. "You're pretty cocky for a blind guy Damian." Not to say that Shiloh didn't enjoy his roommate's attitude, in fact it brought on a whole bunch of fun, but it also handed Shiloh chances to speak his own mind. "Yet that's what makes you fun I guess."
“Would you like to get some punch?” Rini's question drew Shiloh back to the group conversation. Were they really that annoying? Or maybe it was just Shiloh. This was what the teen expected though, everyone could only take so much of the cheeky boy before they would want to leave. "You two lovebirds have fun." And take your mushy love with you. "Me and Damian can go and cause trouble." that they aren’t fun. [/center]

Dean was out prowling again.
He had to be, for there was no other way you’d catch him at one of these events. Dressing up for fun or for attention really wasn’t his style. Normally it was just straight suits, crisp collars, and the occasional lab coat thrown on over, but when he heard about the openings for professor chaperones for the dance, he signed up immediately.
Students loved to show off at these things. Their clothes, their hair, but most importantly: their actions. Miller was, once again, on the lookout for any students that happened to be flaunting their powers to their friends. On the off chance that one of them was particularly interesting, he’d be flagging that ability in his list so he could attempt to find the student later. It just so happened that these silly masquerade masks added an extra layer of anonymity to the whole Great Hall, so his silent observing from the sidelines wouldn’t be terribly obvious. Plus, well, he was a Professor. Professors were supposed to be watching students at these things to make sure that they didn’t do inane things, like get too aggressive on the dance floor, or… spike the punch and what have you.
Currently, however, Miller’s dark eyes weren’t scanning the room. They were focused entirely on two students, but not ones who were rambunctious or parading their powers about. No, Daniel and Serinity had only just found each other, but Dean was already getting a little hot under his collar. His jaw was clenched tightly as he watched the blonde girl react to Daniel’s quite gentlemanly greeting.
He couldn’t deny that there was part of him that was annoyed that Daniel was having fun and socializing at an event like this instead of snooping around and spying for the mission Dean had assigned him to. But, reluctantly, Miller understood that the boy was still young, and it would be unfair to expect such vigilance all the time. Daniel needed socialization, he needed fun—most of his childhood had been a bit depressing, and it was only natural that the boy would thrive in an environment like this, like the school. It was only natural, too, that the boy would be seeking female attention, and the professional side of Miller knew that as long as it didn’t get in the way with finding a Cure, it was better that he had a happy spy instead of a sad one.
He got it. But what irritated the professor was that Daniel seemed to have chosen the Headmistress’ daughter for this female attention. Of all young, able-bodied girls at Silas Academy, he was letting himself get mixed up with the one girl whose mother could entirely destroy Miller’s plans at LifeCore. A woman who could detect lies was a dangerous woman, indeed.
Angrily, he ripped his eyes off of the two students only to have them land on a certain orange-eyed individual. Well, this wasn’t helping his mood any. Miller could still feel his shoulder throb, and sure enough, a tinge of pain made its way down his arm from where he had collided into Daniel’s cousin at the gym. He… needed some air.
Miller left his spot on the outside wall of the Great Hall, dodging excited dress-clad students who were running to the dance floor. His shoes quickly took him to the exit, and he ducked out and made his way outside.

words // 758 // tagged // Damian/Shiloh/Rini boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A “I didn’t know you had family here! That’s pretty cool.” Daniel wasn't exactly ashamed of Shiloh, but his behavior had a tendancy to put people off. Besides, he hadn't really gotten a chance to talk to a lot of people and when he did, his family wasn't usually the topic of conversation. Family was one topic he tried to avoid unless someone approached it directly, and even then he'd only give out information sparingly. "How could you not tell her about me? Your one and only cousin. That hurts Daniel." He risked a semi-tolerant glare at Shiloh only to see amusment in his cousin's face. Daniel sighed and shook his head with a soft chuckle. "I would disown you, but you're really the only family I've got left. I guess that means I'm stuck with you." In fact, he was pretty fond of the guy though he could get annoying at times. Especially times like these. It seemed that he and Rini were destined to be surrounded by other people every time they saw each other. It wasn't that he wanted to ditch them, exactly, but it would be nice to be alone with her.
He brought his eyes back to Serinity's, still smiling at his own jab and doing his best to ignore Shiloh and Damian's bickering. That grin faltered slightly when Rini brought her hand up to his collar, and his heart raced. Okay Daniel, she's just fixing your shirt. Chill out. The pep talk didn't work in the least as her hand lingered on his chest. He wondered if she could feel how fast his heart was beating and he blushed, but didn't take his eyes away from hers. It was intoxicating just to have her touch him in a casual way, and this was more than casual. At least it was to him. Serinity jumped and pulled her hand away from him as if she'd been scorched. Instinctively, he looked down to make sure that wasn't exactly what happened, not having registered the noise that startled her. "Maybe he'd be willing to trade with you. Then I'd have Radar and the dorm room to myself!" No smoke. No scorch marks. Daniel sighed in relief. "You're pretty cocky for a blind guy Damian."
He took a moment to gather his wits as the bickering continued and he rubbed his palms on his thighs without noticing that he did it. His heart was still beating wildly and his throat was dry. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Since his first day here at the Academy he'd been fond of Serinity Dawson, but it was quickly developing into a crush that he knew shouldn't exist. However, no amount of internal pep talks could change how he felt. “Would you like to get some punch?” Daniel brought his eyes back to Rini's once again and he smiled. He would deal with any consequences later. Tonight was for them and he was going to make sure she had fun. "You two lovebirds have fun. Me and Damian can go and cause trouble." He sighed again and closed his eyes briefly, willing himself not to do something impulsive like light Shiloh's tie on fire. It would be amusing for all of about five seconds, but he knew he'd regret it in the end. It was much safer to just walk away.
Opening his eyes, Daniel smiled and held out his hand for Serinity to take. "I would love to." Hopefully they could find somewhere to sit and talk for a bit while he worked up his courage to ask Serinity to dance. Just the thought of it sent a warm shiver down his spine. She made him feel like he was twelve years old again, and excited to simply touch her, no matter how casual. His mind even went so far as to think up random reasons to do so. Dancing was the most reasonable thing he came up with and it would allow him to be close to her. It was much more appropriate than some of the other things he considered, like the intense urge he had to brush her hair out of her eyes just to see if it was as soft as it looked. Even more amazing to him was his desire to know her and to let her know him in return. He found himself wanting to tell her things even Shiloh didn't know; things he'd never told anyone. "I'll catch up with you guys later." Maybe.

The blonde’s eyes widened fearing she had truly caused a commotion between the two family members. The amusement in Shiloh’s strange orange eyes had gone missed in the dimmed lighting. “Oh! No, Daniel and I haven’t really had much time to sit down and talk. But, maybe we could give it a try later.” Her faced turned to her date as she flashed Daniel a brilliant smile. It would be nice after all to get to know her date better.
Damien spoke up, louder this time. His words were directed to her, too. Serinity blushed and smiled at his compliment. It was a shame Damian couldn’t see how his words charmed the ladies. Honestly, it was surprising that the guy didn’t have a date. “Thank you, Damian.” The compliment was, truthfully, a one of the kind comment. Serinity had never been told her voice was beautiful before. I guess a blind person sees things differently. Giving Damian another small smile her attention turned back onto Daniel as Damian turned to mention something to Shiloh. They were an odd pair the two, but somehow it just worked. Soon the two were having another one of their silly little banters. Yep, she’d have to hang around them some more.
An uncomfortable feeling settled over the blonde as Shiloh gave his ‘blessing’ for their punch run. Looking around with a scowl, Serinity focused on a figure some distance away. It was one of the professors of the school by the looks of it. Finding it odd but having more important things to occupy her mind, Serinity’s face lit up as Daniel agreed to some punch. The professor’s disappearing act was pushed back into the recesses of her mind. Soon, it would be completely forgotten about. “Awesome!” Without her having put much thought into it, the girl was slipping her hand into his. A spark developed between the two causing Rini to pull back with stifling a yelp. “You’re so electrifying.” Actually, the spark came more from her powers but there was sense getting technical with the joke.
Trying it again, Serinity placed her hand in his once more. The heat of his hand flooded into her palm. It didn’t stop there, however. The heat spread into her arm and out into her body taking her heart by storm and causing yet another falter in her breathing patterns. If this was kept up, she’d have to be taken to the infirmary for a lack of air! Daniel led her away from Shiloh and Damian. Before they completely disappeared into the crowd, Serinity jokingly called back, “Oh, don’t forget, Shiloh! Trouble equals my grandmamma and grandmamma equals pain and suffering! Best keep him in line, Damian!” It was a fair warning, or so she thought.
To the punch bowl they wandered passing through the crowd with a little difficulty. Serinity refused to break contact with Daniel. For all he knew, her hand was now glued to his. It was so nice the feeling of her hand in his. There was a sense of security with him. Comfort. Completion. To have someone to hold was a wonderful thing indeed. It was a new step in their relationship. They were making such progress tonight! Giddy with happiness, Serinity was beginning to wish for this night to go on for as long as possible. Maybe later they could head out to the courtyard to escape the rest of the school. Yet, tickling in the darkest depths of her mind, Serinity couldn’t help but get a sense of… something. Whatever it was, the feeling wasn’t strong enough to cause alarm. Not that she would listen to it anyhow.
“The Great Hall looks amazing, doesn’t it?” Her eyes cast about taking in the details as they crossed through new areas of the ball on route to the punch bowl. “I’m glad I came.” The night had only just begun and already she was pleased with how things were going. Smooth. They were going smoothly. So far. I wonder if he’ll ask me to dance. I hope he does!! Wait, I don’t really know how to dance. Crap! Maybe I can just follow his led or watch the people around us. What if they can’t dance either?! I guess I wouldn’t be the only fool on the dance floor though. I wonder if he can dance. I bet he can. Oh man how the crap did I luck out?! A range of emotions flared across the girl’s face as her thoughts proceeded in such fashion. Hopefully, Daniel missed them all otherwise he might question Serinity’s sanity or at least her internal monologue.
