.
so i go insane like i always do
AND I CALL YOUR NAME, SHES A LOT LIKE YOU
She was being nice again. It made no sense. Alex was supposed to scream at him, chew him out for what just happened, hate him forever… Instead, she just smiled at him and said thanks, taking the pencil from him. Why did she have to be so confusing? She never reacted the way he expected. Not like Rini, who he knew would always treat him like dirt and continually try to tear him down. That was how people were supposed to react when he messed with them. Instead, Alex was standing across from him chuckling and being sweet. Yell at me, he begged silently. He knew how to react to yelling and people being mean. He couldn't handle this, he didn't know how to. After all, he had absolutely no experience with it.
His own laughter came as a surprise to him. When he was driving her to the brink of insanity, it turned out that she was kind of funny. "Law abiding? I don't believe it for a second. I always knew there was a troublemaker dying to get out." He smirked slightly at the thought of her really being a trouble maker. She wouldn't make it a day. "How long do you have? I've seen things no one should ever have to see." He put his hands into the pocket of his jacket and mock shuddered.
"First rule, don't act like it's your first time." He dramatically looked her over. "The regulars will eat you alive. You might want to stick close." That was a stupid thing to say. It came off more like an invitation to hang out with him than a joking tip for surviving detention. Hastily, he spoke again, "Rule number two is trickier. You have to know who to avoid and who it's okay to sit next to. I'm afraid there isn't an actual method to figure that out. It's a gut feeling, unless you know everybody in the room."
Which he did. Seth frequented detention like it was his home away from home… away from home? This was as boarding school after all. His grin dimmed for a moment. "Just try not to get picked up by any strange guys. Detention regulars love fresh meat." He was sort of joking, but now that he thought about it… He eyed Alex critically for a moment and noticed with a shock that she was pretty… way too pretty to hack it with the regulars. With guys like him.
What the heck was he doing talking to her like she was a friend? He didn't have friends. He looked at her quietly. And he especially didn't have anything close to more than a friend. Unless it was a mutual no feelings attached thing that he started with a girl. "Later, sweetheart." His mocking tone was back and his grin had been replaced with a smirk. "Try not to faint from the shock of what just happened." He saluted her with a condescending grin and spun on his heel, stalking away from her.
He was Seth Turner. And he didn't feel things. Not for anyone. He hesitated, stopping for a second, then yelling over his shoulder without looking back. "I'm sorry, okay?" Then he kept walking.
