The thing about mornings is that they start early. Far too early if you were to ask a certain female that went by the name of Maeve Rose Florian. To say she hated mornings was an understatement, the girl absolutely despised them. Getting up was just so... awful. So, you might ask, why bother getting up? Especially on weekends such as these, most people can afford the luxury of sleeping in. And so she could sleep till noon if she wanted. Yes and no. Usually, that was what would happen, especially given that she liked to stay up late, and then she would sleep in to compensate. This was what happened regularly, but there were always days when she would wake up earlier by herself and not be able to sleep any more. And today, this particular Saturday happened to be one of those days. Her body had woken her up far too early for her likings and the sunlight that came from the window hit her right in the face, making it hard to go back to sleep. She was the one to blame for not closing the blinds.
She rolled around in her bed again, in a feeble attempt to go back to sleep, but it was of no avail. Sighing, she tossed the sheets aside and swung her legs out of her bed, her feet coming in contact with the hard wooded floors of her bedroom. Stretching like a cat, the female slowly made her way towards the window, in order to get it open and let some of the morning breeze into the room. Maeve dragged her feet as she moved about her dorm room, trying to decided whether she would eat or take a shower first. The idea of showering seemed to win the battle, and she steered herself towards the bathroom. The cold water seemed to shake the last remains of sleep of her brain, and she felt much better once she stepped outside to get dressed.
Once she was done with that, the female pondered what she could do for the day. As tempting as lazying around in her dorm was, she didn't really feel like spending the day inside. And she was already dressed in decent clothes... so staying in and doing nothing would be a waste. Maeve waited for her hair do dry out a bit more before grabbing her bag and walked out, with no set destination in mind. For a while, she simply drove around town, not entirely sure about what she would do with her morning. Until of course, her body decided to remind her that she hadn't ate yet. So maybe she should have eaten something at home, but she really hadn't thought of that.
With that in mind, the female steered herself to the coffee shop, in order to get her daily fix of coffee some food in her. It didn't took her much time to get there and park her car and once she pushed the door open she was greeted by the distinct jingle of bells that signalled a new costumer had walked in. The scent of fresh brewed coffee and baked goods filled her nostrils and Maeve sighed in contempt. Ah yes, she was in heaven. As she waited in line, Maeve fidgeted like a small child on Christmas eve that couldn't wait to open their presents. So she really liked coffee, sue her. Once her order was up, she smiled and thanked the barista almost as if she had just saved her life. Taking a sip from her blended iced coffee, Maeve smiled in delight. No matter what people said about Starbucks, this right here was the best coffee she had ever tasted in her life.
Maeve sat down next to one of the windows, and placed her food down. A delicious blended iced coffee topped with whipped cream and the most awesome raspberry and white chocolate chip muffin she had ever tasked stared at her, begging to be consumed. And she would get to that, but before she could dig in, she fished a small and rather insignificant looking moleskine notebook and placed it on the table next to her food items. If one new Maeve well enough, they would know she never went anywhere without said notebook. Because in that small notebook she kept all her drawings, and one could never know when something worth drawing would show up.

The man looked at himself in the men’s bathroom mirror with sullen eyes. His face was pale and dark circles detracted from his handsome, scruffy features. Water dripped down from his chin as his large hands grasped the edge of the skin. His breathe was ragged and heavy in a panting manner. Blitz let his chin fall toward his chest still breathing heavily. It was hard to look at himself in the mirror, even now, even a good couple of months after. Tightening the muscles in his jaw, the man raised his head. A razor in his hand rose to meet the skin on his neck. Blitz paused. It was obvious he wasn’t used to being back in… civilization. Grabbing the can of shaving cream from his pack, the guy slathered it on his face. Now he could properly shave.
After that task was complete, Blitz stared at his reflection. His hair was a mess. It was a wonder the café’s owner allowed him into the place looking the way he did. Unfortunately, Blitz wouldn’t be able to clean his dirty clothes or take a proper shower until he was at the school. For a good week, he was traveling on foot to get to Willowbrook. He had had the option to take a bus, but Blitz wanted the time alone. This was cake compared to what he was used to. Grunting, he dug the gel out of his bag along with deodorant and a comb and went to work. It was hard work fixing himself up with all these products. He was used to the bare minimal things.
A good thirty minutes passed before Blitz deemed himself ready to face this new challenge dubbed Silas Academy. It was peace he sought, and normalcy. None of these kids would be able to even imagine what he had gone through for the past three or four years. It was like a blessing, really, to be around all these innocent children. Maybe he could soak up some of their innocence. Maybe he could pretend he still had some. The solider grasped the dog tags that still hung around his neck as a constant reminder and pressed the light weight metal against his lips. Blitz’s countenance screwed up as his hand shook. Shaving had calmed his breathing, but now it rattled with the images of bad memories. The dog tags dropped to his chest as Blitz raised his hands to slap his cheeks. “Focus.” It was the only word he could manage.
Minutes ticked by as he gathered himself enough to exit the bathroom and return to the world he hoped he could fit into. Would there be room a person such as himself? The door was shouldered open as Blitz exited the men’s room and proceeded into the café. Sweetwater’s owner agreed to allow Blitz personal use of the restroom so long as he bought some items before heading out. That was the deal. Blitz, to his word, went up to the counter and placed his order. A simple black coffee and... Brown eyes gazed over the signs telling him the possibilities to choose from. “Do you have… apples?” he asked looking to the girl in earnest.
The barista, taken aback by the request, nodded and tilted her head to the side questioning Blitz’s request. It was not every day someone ordered coffee and apples plain as that. Their muffins were champions among muffins! They were a Willowbrook/Silas Academy standard breakfast! “Ok. A coffee, black, and five apples.” The barista gave Blitz an even weirder look. He was told his order would be ready in a moment as she disappeared to gather the specific five apples and pour him a to-go-cup of coffee. Black.
To pass the time, Blitz allowed his eyes to sweep over the store. It was habit, really. His eyes searched for hidden enemies. All they found were a couple of regulars and a young woman who appeared to be a student at the nearby academy. The barista returned with his items. Blitz handed her the money eyeing it as it left his hand in the customary exchange. Money was supposed to be precious to him now. It would get him many things in this world that he couldn’t buy in the other. Pity he only had so much. Shoving four of the deliciously red apples into his bag and keeping one in hand with the coffee in the other, Blitz hesitantly approached the girl as she fished out something from her bag. For a moment, Blitz paused eyes widening and nostrils flaring. Muscles went tense as he mentally debated over whether or not to reach for his gun that no longer hung at his side. Was this an attack against him? Should he drop his things and fight back?
His lip quiver. Blitz let out his breath in a whoosh of hot air as he forced himself to relax. The man closed his eyes momentarily, and then opened them giving the girl an apologetic look. “Excuse me miss,” he murmured quietly, “I’m sorry to bother you. Are you a student at Silas Academy?” All traces of tension were erased from his body when he spoke. It wouldn’t go well if he accidently scared the crap out of her. While he waited for her answer, his eyes looked her over for any possibly hidden weapons. Again, the guy had to remind himself that weapons were far rarer here. It was even more unlikely that she carried one. Still…

It was surprising. Looking back, she always found it surprising how easily she had done everything every since her powers started to act up. The day when she had "accidentally" turned off all the lights in her house while arguing with her mother. She had been fourteen. Of course that by then she had deemed it a coincidence, just like the fact that lights seemed to flicker when she was around. Yet, as the time passed, Maeve begun to wonder "what if", and by the time she was fifteen she could already create and maintain a small light orb at will. She couldn't wait to show it to her family, but their reaction wasn't the one she had expected. Instead of being as fascinated by it as she had been, they had been shocked, terrified even. And what's worse, forbade her of ever doing something like that again.
Of course, Maeve didn't really pay attention to them and kept practising, and researched, trying to find more people like her. Eventually, her research lead her to Silas Academy. That was the easy part. The hard part was convincing her family to let her go. It was out of the question for her grandparents. However, her mother was a bit easier to persuade, and she managed to get it with her consent. Not that it mattered much, she was planning on running away from home if they didn't let her go. And in the four years that had passed since she left, she had only gone back to England once. And she had only see her mother. But usually she was the one who visited Maeve. She missed her home, and her country. But Silas had became like a second home to her, and she couldn't say she missed her family that much. That was why it bothered her so much and she rarely thought about her past. It bothered her the fact that she didn't regret a single thing of what she had done.
She really couldn't bring herself to regret it, actually. She had accomplished more in the past four years at Silas that she would ever be able to back home. Gone were the days when all she could do was create small orbs of light. Now, she could make them explode. Not to mention that she could create beams of light, and shield herself from attacks as well. And most importantly, she was learning how to make herself invisible. Not to mention she had learnt that she was immune to the injurious effects of her powers and of light in general - the reason why she didn't get tanned. So, no. She couldn't really bring herself to regret her choice of coming to Silas. Yet, today, as she sat at the table by the window, Maeve couldn't help but think back about her life, and that maybe she should spend some time in London this year... maybe.
However, her thoughts were brought to an halt as someone spoke to her. She hadn't been expecting that, so it was with a startled look that she faced the stranger who had approached her. She studied him as he spoke. He didn't seem to be much older than she was, and yet, he seemed much more older, almost as if... she couldn't really place it, she just felt that. His question brought a small smile to her lips and she nodded some. "It's okay, you're not bothering at all, I just wasn't expecting anyone to show up. Yes, yes I am. Can I help you with something?" she replied politely. Maybe he was a student? In that case he couldn't really be much older than she was. Or he could be a new teacher. But then again, why would a teacher be asking around if people were students at Silas? She decided to shrug it of and wait for his reply instead of trying to guess it randomly

If it is a problem, I can change it. I just couldn't ask you since you weren't on. ^.^; ))
When Maeve turned to look at Blitz, her eyes scanned over his face taking in his own features. The look she gave him unsettled him. How readable was his face? Could other people really see the unnerving past that he tried desperately to move on from? Thankfully, Blitz wasn’t proving a nuisance to her. He even offered her the tiniest of smiles in return. “Ah, well, I’m actually transferring into the school.” His eyes wandered away to peer out the window she sat beside as if he could see the place from here. “I was just wondering about the place. I like to know what I’m getting into…” The man’s words trailed off as he disappeared into his own thoughts momentarily.
Bringing the apple to his lips, he took a bite still staring out of the window taking in the sight outside. A drop of its juice ran down his chin disappearing into the scruff on his face. “Ugh,” he grunted and rubbed his chin against his arm. Brown eyes peered back to Maeve focusing once more on the present. “Do you mind if I sit down for a moment? I won’t take up too much of your time. I promise.” Waiting for a moment, the left side of his mouth twitched up as if attempting to form a smile. It fell back down without actually completing the act. Glad she accepted, he gratefully sat down in the chair across from her and placed his pack beside him.
Carelessly, he allowed the apple to be placed upon the table as he moved the steaming cup of coffee to his other hand and raised it to his lips. “Heh, it’s nice to have hot coffee brewed fresh again.” His eyes were locked on the cup watching the steam rise into the air and dissipate never to be seen again. “Thank you for putting up with me,” he suddenly said nodding to Maeve. “What’s the big deal about this school? As I understand it, everyone there has powers, right?” Blitz’s words were said at a normal noise level, but the regulars of the shop suddenly went hushed staring at him from the corners of their eyes.
The people of Willowbrook didn’t believe in the powers. The tolerated it and the residents of Silas, but they did not speak about it. It just didn’t exist to them. Feeling the tension in the air, Blitz looked around skeptically with a wary eye. “Hmmm,” he murmured and took another sip of his hot coffee. “Strange. Well, anyhow, what are your thoughts on the school? Do you like it alright?” He paused for a moment and then pressed forward hesitantly, “I mean does it seem to help? You know, with control and coping?”

Maeve had been right in assuming the male was a new student transferring to Silas once he replied to her question. She offered him another smile at his following words, that was usually how most people felt upon arriving. To her, it had been the fear of meeting others such as her (even thought she was actully curious to find out what other powers existed). Due to her family's reaction, she feared that even by the school's standards, she'd be considered a freak. Or worse, tat she had had trough all the trouble to get there just to find it wasn't really going to help her with her powers.
Silence followed Blitz' first words as he seemed to trail off and take a bite from his apple. For a moment, Maeve remained silent as well, but just as she was about to ask him if he wanted to sit down, he seemed to return to the present and asked her to sit. "Sure, go ahead. Don't worry about it, I'm not really busy right now" she reassured, nodding some as he sat down. After all, it would be weird to have this sort of conversation with one of them standing up while the other was sitting comfortably at a table.
“Heh, it’s nice to have hot coffee brewed fresh again.” An eyebrow rose at this, confusion finding it's way to her features. What was so special about having fresh brewed coffee? Every small town with a coffee shop would allow one to enjoy a cup of fresh brewed coffee. Or a least that was what she thought anyway. Taking a sip of her own ice cold drink, Maeve stared at the male across that sat across from her with a curious expression on her face. Who exactly was this man?
“What’s the big deal about this school? As I understand it, everyone there has powers, right?” And all of a sudden all eyes were on them and all easygoing sunday morning conversations were replaced by low whispers and disapproving nods. Maeve shifted uncomfortably on her seat and rolled her eyes, huffing. "Seriously, one would have figured they had already gotten used to this by now" she muttered and made a point to glare at a particular annoying costumer who imminently returned to whatever it was that he had been doing before, almost if he was afraid that she might set him on fire or something even though he probably knew very well students weren't allowed to use their powers outside of school. They simply disliked those with powers, and choose to ignore they even existed which, to Maeve, seemed to be quite a stupid thing to do.
She returned her attention to the male across from her, his words pulling her out of her thoughts and from the glaring contest with the other costumer. "Well, it's school. So, there's no changing that." she commented smiling. After all, even with all the powers, it was still pretty much like a regular high school. "But seriously, I really like it there. Being at Silas did more for me in the past four years than I would have expected, and certainly more than I had hoped. You know, once you finally accept the gifts you were given, it really becomes much more easy to control your powers." She paused for a bit, chewing on her bottom lip. "I know it probably sounds cliche but it's true. And once you start to be able to control the basics, you'll find out you can do even more things with your powers."

Blitz eyed several of the people who wouldn’t make eye contact. It was strange. Why did they get up in arms? Surely they knew about the gifted abilities being so close to the academy. None of it made sense to Blitz. “You would think so…” he murmured thoughtfully scrunching up his face while staring at a woman who sipped on her coffee with a trembling hand. “Then again, the world doesn’t know much about us, nor would they care to. We’d be freaks to them,” he growled with a flash in his eye. Blitz wouldn’t stand for that. There was no way he’d allow people to think he was a freak. A long time ago, people did and a long time ago, he put the claims to rest as best as possible. Although his idea of putting the claims to rest was running away into the Army. No one knew him there.
A thought came to the man resulting in a smirk to cross his face. Ooh they were in for a treat soon enough. Maeve began to speak then focusing his attention on her and not his idea. Blitz listened attentively to catch every word. He was used to being briefed before his missions. It did him well to know what he was getting into. She poured out her heart telling him about the school and how she liked it and why. Listening the entire time, Blitz didn’t make a sound. When she was finished he lifted the coffee cup to his lips and took a long, drawn out sip watching her while gathering his thoughts.
“As I also understand it, the school only goes up to four years of college?” His eyes closed momentarily as he grimaced with extreme distaste. “I hate school,” he grumbled like an angsty teenager while looking out the window. “If it didn’t have what I was looking for, I wouldn’t be here taking some stupid classes. I wonder if they’ll make me retake a lot of the high school classes. Blah.” Blitz hadn’t intended for Maeve to hear this. It was supposed to be an internal monologue, but as it turned out, Blitz forgot to keep his mouth shut. The fool didn’t even realize he had said it all out loud, either.
Thinking to himself, Blitz took up his apple to bite into it once more. This time he took several bites. “Silas sounds nice for those who need it. Control isn’t my issue. My power’s never gotten out of hand.” Little did Blitz realize that his power was severely under used. Being in combat surrounded by other people didn’t give him many chances to use his electricity wilding abilities. “What power do you have?” He asked suddenly with a curious expression. In all his time, he had never met another gifted person. Excluding the doctor in Germany who didn’t count. “I can control electricity. Watch.” The guy didn’t even think about how personal a person’s powers may be. He was too excited to know more about other gifted beings.
Blitz smiled as he looked spitefully around the room before placing his flat palm against the wall. His brow furrowed as he concentrated on calling up the ability within him to his beckoning. A light sheen of sweat began to appear. It never occurred to him that such difficulty would be viewed as armature. It was several moments before anything actually happened. A crackling, popping sound began to emit from under Blitz’s palm as a blue light faintly radiated away from his hand. The next thing anyone knew, the café’s lights were flickering before shorting out completely. Smirking at his accomplishment, the man looked around before going about the process again. This time he turned the lights all back on. With proud brown eyes he peered at Maeve and wiggled his brow. “Impressive, huh!”

Even though she had grown accustomed to people's reactions to those with powers, it still bothered Maeve that people kept looking at them like they were freaks. They didn't really mind that the school was there, nor did they seem to be bothered by the constant visits from students, but yet, they disapproved of it. And that was being hypocritical. And that irked Maeve. She still liked to visit Willowbrook whenever she could, because for most times, the locals wouldn't really pay attention to her, or look at her funny. Most of the times, they didn't even realize she was a student at Silas. That was, of course, until situations like this happened. It was rare, but if someone did so much as mention the powers, all of a sudden everyone would be staring at you like you had grown a second head.
“Then again, the world doesn’t know much about us, nor would they care to. We’d be freaks to them,” Blitz' words seemed to echo her own thoughts and she smiled a bit, before sighing again. Well, there was nothing she could do about it. Trying to show people that having powers wasn't such a bad thing never turned out as one planned, she knew as much. Therefore the best solution was to leave the locals alone, and give them no more reason to hate the ones with powers more than they already did. As much as she disliked doing so. After the little incident, things seemed to be returning to normal, although far less relaxed than before. Maeve could really care less, as long as they weren't bothering them, she'd be fine.
Maeve listened to his little rant about school, and chuckled a bit. "Well, don't worry about it. You're only required to take four classes, and they're not that hard" not that she was really the best advice giver when it came to school, the girl who was taking eight classes during summer. Maeve picked at her muffin absentmindedly, shoving a small piece of the treat into her mouth.
Hazel eyes sparkled in interest as Blitz mentioned his power was Electricity Manipulation. She had never seen someone with that particular power, and to be quite honest, she had always been quite curious about it. Maeve watched intently as Blitz placed his palm against the wall. At first noting happened, but a crackling noise brought her attention to his hand where the faintest blue hue could be seen. All of a sudden the cafe's lights begun to flicker, eventually shutting of completely. Maeve giggled as he turned the lights back on, happy to have witnessed the demonstration. "Not bad" she commented happily, placing her own hand on the table, the palm facing up. She looked around, making sure no one would be looking. A power shortage was a normal thing, but her powers were not so easy to demonstrate out in the open. Well, technically she too could leave the place in darkness if she wanted to, but all other electric equipments would be working, and that would be weird.
Once she was certain no one else could see her using her powers, she beckoned Blitz to look at her hand. "Watch" she nodded as her fingertips begun to glow with a faint light. Within seconds, a small orb of light hovered above her palm, glowing in a warm yellow color. Maeve smiled softly at the little orb, and closed her hand, making it disappear. "Light manipulation" she said as an explanation "Although I always wished I could control electrical equipment. All I can do that's remotely similar is turning the lights on an off" she added smiling.
"Oh, I just realized I never really introduced myself. My name is Maeve. Maeve Florian" As she was talking, she didn't notice the male approaching their table until he was right next to them, clearing his throat as if to gain their attention. All traces of a smile were gone from Maeve's face as she turned to face the stranger. "Yes, may I help you?" he seemed to be taken aback by her politeness, but it only lasted a second. "Miss, if you don't mind, it'd be appreciated if you left. You and your friend are bothering the costumers."

[atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,450,true][atrb=background,http://i51.tinypic.com/118ez9j.png,true]Before Blitz began his demonstration, his eyes flickered over to Maeve to make sure she was watching. Seeing her look on with interest, he began. After he was done she giggled only causing him to smile wider. “Yeah, I can do more of course. Only thing appropriate to do in here, though.” Beaming smugly, the guy sipped on his coffee glad to have impressed her with his ability. He rather liked the fact that he could do something regular humans couldn’t. It made him feel more powerful, and he liked being in a higher state of power than his enemy. Maeve than put up her own hand on the table palm facing upward and Blitz watched with curiosity before she even instructed him to do so. It interested him that she bothered to look around and make sure no one was watching. Blitz, oblivious to school rules, had no idea it was forbidden to do something outside of Silas. Not that he honestly cared. What were the humans going to do? Bring a gun to an electricity wielding fight? Clearly, electricity would always win.
A glow from her hand startled Blitz into putting his coffee cup down and leaning forward with an awed expression. His hand twitched in anxiousness. Blitz wanted to poke the orb so bad. It intrigued him. This was one of the first powers he’d ever witness someone else use. “Whoa!” he exclaimed all excitedly. The former shadows and sullen looks were completely gone and replaced by childish delight. “Dude that is so freaking cool! What’s it feel like? Is it hot? Does it hurt?” His eyes flickered from her closed palm to her eyes as he smiled happily determined to know more about her power.
“Yea, electricity is pretty darn cool. Except, it kind of sucks if you’re not around things with power. You know, because you can’t really use nonexistent electricity if you run out. See, I can generate stuff on my own for a while, but I need to… recharge, like the Energizer bunny!” he said with a chuckle. Blitz gave a true smile. It was probably the first time in a while that he was truly enthusiastic about anything at all. He’d been pretty moppy lately, for obvious reasons. Then Maeve was introducing herself as the both of them had completely forgotten this important social step. Introductions had been put aside in favor of more interesting things. “That’s a very beautiful name. I’m Blitz.” He was just about to ask her if she was British, due to her accent, but a man approached the table before he could.
It was the owner of the café requesting them to leave. Apparently they were disturbing the customers. Blitz put on a sneer glaring up at the guy threateningly. Not liking the view, he stood and came eye to eye with the owner. Their eyes met for a moment, but the other guy had a problem keeping contact. “I don’t see what the problem is,” he growled darkly. The playfully excited mood had changed back into the usual dark one. Blitz growled again but made no move to harm the owner. After all, he had agreed to let him use the restroom while he fixed up. Taking his eyes off the other guy who still stood by his request, Blitz glared at each of the customers in turn. Every one of them shied away from his gaze causing him to scoff, “Pathetic.”
Turning to Maeve with an apologetic look, he mumbled with a matching apologetic tone, “I guess we should head out of here…” The owner gave a sigh of relief. He had been holding his breath thinking there would be trouble. His job done, the café’s owner scampered back behind the safety of the counter. The rest of the humans went about their business trying to bring the mood back up, but their caution and wariness of the two power users created a stiff tension in the air. Blitz looked at the table and rubbed the back of his neck before grabbing the coffee cup. “I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean for this to happen. I just wanted to know about the school before I headed over.” He looked up with sincere eyes, “Please, let me make it up to you some how.”

Ever since the day Maeve had found out about her powers, she had been passionate about them. She knew plenty of people who hadn’t been the least bit pleased about realizing they weren’t like most people. But then again, that was human nature, to reject everything that doesn’t fit into that one pattern and deem it as unnatural. It was a sort of defence mechanism, to stick to the ones that are like you and shun everything that’s different. Well, truth was, Maeve had always been a fan of different, and once she discovered she could do something no one else could, she was ecstatic. Not for a moment did she though other people might not be so fond of her abilities as she was. But that was something most students at Silas had in common. The discovery of the powers had also lead to some sort of fallout with someone else. Family, friends, loved ones. People who weren’t really happy about it.
Nevertheless, Maeve was happy she had her powers, and wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. More than that, she was happy she got to meet people who were like her. So, when the moment came when the female actually could see someone using their powers, she wouldn’t pass on the opportunity. Take now, for instance. When Blitz offered to show her his powers, Maeve didn’t really think for a moment that they were in a public place, outside school, and that therefore, the use of the powers was forbidden. Well, actually, she thought about it, but her curiosity overcame the cautiousness and she didn’t stop him. Not only that, she had went as far as to actually use her own powers. “Dude that is so freaking cool! What’s it feel like? Is it hot? Does it hurt?” Maeve chuckled at Blitz’ reaction, thinking that perhaps this was the first time he was actually witnessing someone using their powers. “Hmmm… It’s… Well, it doesn’t hurt, but it’s kind of hard to explain… I guess it feels like having a light bulb hovering over your hand?” she tried, not entirely sure she had covered how it felt. Her powers had always come so naturally to her, that she had never really thought about how it felt.
She had just learned that the stranger’s name was Blitz when they were interrupted by the café owner’s arrival, and he didn’t look the least bit confident as he faced the two of them. Before she could answer him, Blitz had gotten up and was standing toe to toe with the owner. Maeve bit down on her lower lip as she got up as well, hoping that she’d at least be able to stop it before the man was harmed. It was bad enough to use the powers outside the school, but if word got out that there had been a fight, she didn’t know what could happen. Luckily, she didn’t need to do much, for Blitz seemed to back down, settling for a much less dangerous glare (well, less dangerous from her point of view, as everyone in the small café seemed to be afraid they might blow up or something due to the look). She relaxed visibly and nodded some as Blitz mentioned it would be best to leave the place. She turned towards the table, picking up her bag and her notebook, ignoring the cup that held the remains of her coffee and the muffin, and turned to leave. It wasn’t until they were both outside that she spoke again. “It’s okay, it’ wasn’t really your fault” she started, offering him a kind smile as she leaned against her car. “If anything I was responsible. We aren’t allowed to use our powers outside of school, so I guess I should have thought about that first. I blame my own stupidity” Inwardly, she scolded herself for disregarding the rules like that without thinking about the consequences. She didn’t even want to think about what could happen if the Headmistress found out about what had happened, although she wasn’t sure the café owner would actually say something about it.
“Please, let me make it up to you some how.” Maeve blinked at his words, surprise finding it’s way into her features. “What? No. You don’t need to do anything!” she exclaimed, waving her hands in front of her, feeling rather embarrassed. “You couldn’t possibly know this was going to happen. Yes, I lost the rest of my coffee and a muffin, it’s a tragedy. But I think I’ll live.” She added jokingly. Before putting on a more serious face. “Seriously, though, I’m the one at fault here. If you don’t have a car, I’d be glad to offer you a ride to school?”

A guilty expression shadowed Blitz’s face as the two stumbled out of the café and back onto the streets. He even held the door open for her. Blitz followed her to her car not knowing where else to go until their conversation was finished. His calloused hand rubbed the back of his neck lightly as a frown took over his lips. Stretching the guy gave a sight and peered down at her with a raised brow. “Really? It’s forbidden to use your powers outside of the school. That’s kind of lame.” Mulling the idea over, Blitz looked off in the distance again. It would be impossible to see the school from here, but he had a vague idea of where it was.
“Man, how strict is this place?” The question was more of a rhetorical one, really. “I’ve never been forbidden to use my powers in an area. Before, I just never used them because I didn’t want to get kicked out of the Army.” Chuckling, Blitz remembered that one time when he gave one of his superiors a good scare. Almost got himself kicked out then, but he managed to kiss ass and save his skin. The only other person to really know about his powers was Bear.
Blitz found himself rubbing his newly shaven chin. It was strange not feeling the bristles there to tickle and scratch his fingers. Out in the field, you didn’t have a great deal of time to shave depending on where you were. Maeve then offered to give him a ride if he didn’t have one. Of course he didn’t. “Yeeeeah, my stuff’s kind of still on its way. I just carried what I could, which wasn’t a whole lot. Necessary items.” He trailed off for a moment eyeing her car. Should he accept the offer? Or should he just carry on his way like he had before.
“Well,” the guy began hesitantly, “I guess it wouldn’t hurt. I would greatly appreciate both the ride and the company.” It had been a good while since he had some good company. Maeve was nice and fun to talk to. He had to admit though. It was difficult to adjust to the typical social conversations of normal people. The Army soldiers, especially the grunts, all had their particulars quirky qualities acceptable among the men. However, in the social light their quirks were not so acceptable. Army guys were so perverted.
A smirk crossed his lips as he peered at Maeve for a second remembering some of the jokes passed between guys. They were a playful bunch. Here in the civilized world, the playful nature had to be watched so boundaries weren’t over stepped. Blitz found the boundaries here a bit more limited, but he could adjust. Maybe. “Shall we be off then? I guess I should stop prolonging the visit. Thanks. For the ride and all. And everything.”

This day had so not gone according to her plans. Well, truth be told, it wasn’t as if Maeve actually had a particular plan for her morning, but even with that, she most certainly hadn’t been expecting to randomly meet an energy manipulator at a café and be “asked to leave” said café due to using her powers outside the school. Yep, if someone had told her her morning was going to go like that she wouldn’t have believed it for a moment. But hey, at least she was no longer bored. And had managed to have a non awkward conversation with someone she had just met, which was always good.
She gave him a light nod accompanied by a sigh. While she did understand why students weren’t allowed to use their powers outside the school grounds, Maeve wasn’t particularly fond of this rule. As usual, she saw nothing wrong with using her powers near the humans. If anything, she thought it might help them understand more about them and maybe even accept them (even though that approach hadn’t really worked for her before). Still, she respected it. Didn’t like it, but still respected it.
The female shrugged a bit at Blitz following words “I guess… they’re all just worried about what the townsfolk reaction may be. As you can see, they’re not the cuddliest bunch when it comes to us” she stated dryly, as she fished her car keys from her bag, but stopping when she took fully notice of what he had said. She cast a curious glance at him, thinking that being in the Army sure explained a lot about. A couple of comments crossed her mind, but she decided against voicing them. She had no idea what this person’s life had been like, so she had no right in commenting about what she didn’t know. Instead she resumed the search for her car keys. Finally finding the elusive item, Maeve unlocked her car, and opening the door, she tossed her belongings in the back seat.
Hearing the apprehension in Blitz’ voice, Maeve smiled. “Don’t worry. I promise I won’t turn us into a pretzel. It’d be a shame to do that to my car.” She said with a chuckle. “Seriously though, don’t mention it. I mean I only got us kicked out of a café. And since we’re headed the same way…“ the female shrugged a bit, climbing into the driver’s seat and motioning for him to get in.
