.
. “I’m fine.” He obviously wasn't, but Emmi figured that he was just one of the suffer in silence type. She wasn't about to bug the person who was actually listening to her rambling by simply insisting that he needed to see the nurse. Emmi could always go see if Maeve wanted to talk, but she had a feeling that the girl wouldn't be so happy about her walking into her room at such an early time of the day. And walking into Seth's room was just out of the question, first she would get in trouble for being in the boy's dorm this early and she also was a little worried that Seth only slept in his boxers.
The girl watched a lady bug crawl along her foot, its little red body standing out against her light skin. She let it move around for a moment or two before picking it up and letting it stay on the back of her hand while she listened to Killian's response on strangers. “And strangers…” The teen drifted off, and Emmi had a feeling that he wasn't going to complete the sentence. Instead she looked back down at the lady bug until he had said his name. “I’m Killian.”
The young girl smiled a little, "Nice to meet you. I'm Emily, the girl who has been stating all of her problems to you for the last few minutes." She laughed a quiet laugh, glancing back down at the red bug before speaking again. "Some people call me Emmi though." .

Killian didn’t know why, but he thought that the girl’s laugh was musical. Probably because he didn’t hear laughter a lot, not this close, anyway. Mostly it was insults or sarcasm, or just plain old silence. He decided he didn’t like the fact that her laughter was musical to him, and squeezed his legs closer to his body. “Nice to meet you. I'm Emily, the girl who has been stating all of her problems to you for the last few minutes." She was too carefree. He didn’t enjoy her presence… that was what he told himself anyway. He dug his nails into his shin, trying to wake himself up from whatever spell this girl carried around to make herself be likable. Perhaps it was her power. "Some people call me Emmi though." Emmi. A cutesy bastardization of Emily that indicated familiarity between the speaker and the actual person. He would most definitely not be calling her that. Or anything at all for that matter. She confused him.
“What is your ability?” He asked. Perhaps that was part of the reason people liked her so much. He had seen some pheromone manipulators; people liked them a lot, and in general they were charismatic, bright people that never gave him a second glance. They were also manipulative people. Maybe she wasn’t a pheromone manipulator. Well, her power had to be the reason Killian could stand her presence, because he couldn’t accept anything like ‘friendship compatibility.’ Watching he head turn from side to side, he got that strange urge to touch her hair again. Killian set his mouth in a hard line.

.
. Killian seemed to go back into his introverted shell, not like he had emerged much from it to begin with. Emily wasn't sure what had caused him to revert to such behavior but she was worried that she had something to do with it. She didn't think she had said anything that would cross any boundaries, after all she was just answering a question. But some people were able to find meanings hidden beneath words that most wouldn't, and there was a possibility that Killian was one of those people.
The older teen began to dig his nails into his shin, causing Emmi to wince. It wasn't hurting her but it was hard to watch someone cause pain to themselves. She wanted to ask what was wrong but was worried that if she tried to speak to him again Killian would close himself off even more. “What is your ability?” The young girl relaxed a little as the teen asked her another question. She was relieved that he hadn't left her company entirely and was still slightly up for talking. "I can phase through things . . . such as solid objects and people."
Emily allowed the lady bug to crawl off of her hand and back to the ground. Its little red body was visible against the green grass for a moment or two before it nestled itself down to the dirt. The small girl brought her hand down to the grass, allowing the strands of green to touch her palm. With a soft movement she let her hand sweep through the blades, phasing through it effortlessly. So many other people enjoyed flaunting their powers and using it as a sort of offense. Emmi used it to keep herself away from judging eyes and to cut her way through crowds. It was once her defense but now it had already melded its way into a daily act.
"What's your power? I mean . . . if you don't mind telling." Emmi already knew that many people weren't very proud of their powers or at least the side effects that came with it. Seth was one of those people, always struggling with his addiction to the powers that he could absorb and the rush that he felt. The teen sitting by her didn't look like the happiest person and there was always the possibility that his power had something to do with it. .

So she could walk through solid objects. He bit his tongue. He hadn’t met a lot of people with powers when he was on the streets, but he had come in contact with a few. One was a phaser. That hadn’t gone well. Killian looked up at the lake, which was becoming brighter each second. The air seemed a little drier now that the sun was completely up. He raised his hand a little, as if testing the air, but couldn’t feel anything. He hadn’t been able to for a long time. Killian knew it was becoming slightly windy though, from the grasses that swayed gently in the breeze. He wrapped his arm around his legs and then propped his chin up on his knees, bending his neck at an odd angle so that he could see everything from his position.
Her hand passed through the grass with ease. He wasn’t sure why, but watching that made him feel uneasy. He narrowed his eyes and thought up of a hundred different dangerous situations that her power could get herself caught up in. What if she phased through solid rock and the solidified, in the rock? What if her power became so strong that she passed through things all the time, without meaning to? Killian turned his passive gaze on her face, and then back down to her hand. She was nervous. How ridiculous. Why should she be nervous? "What's your power? I mean . . . if you don't mind telling."
Killian gave a start, a little surprised that she would ask. People generally neglected to ask such questions of him. Of course, people generally didn’t get the chance to have an actual conversation with him. He was reluctant. He actually didn’t want to tell her. Probably because of the bizarre things going on with his body that he could only assume were an after effect of his power. He paused, and then straightened his back. “Life force manipulation.” He said in a dull, uninterested tone. He hoped she wouldn’t ask anything more of him. He was getting tired of their conversation, and hungry too. He slipped a hand inside his little bubble and attempted to grab at his stomach. There wasn’t enough fat, or even skin, to clench.

.
. The air had started to warm now that the day had truly begun. It wouldn't be long before Emily would have to make her way back to her dorm so that she could get ready for class, that is if she found the energy to even go to class. She could always ditch her classes today, but she feared that Seth wouldn't listen to her when she told him to go to his classes if she didn't even go to her own. There was also the possibility that he would sense something was a little off by her not going to class, and she didn't want to bore him with a bunch of mushy and emotional stuff. She wasn't sure why she found it okay to spill her feelings out to Killian and not Seth but she was too tired to bother questioning anything at the moment.
“Life force manipulation.” Emily had never heard of such a power before. She had met nearly every manipulator the school had to offer, from lighting manipulation to earth manipulation, but Killian's ability was a first. The younger girl could ask him to elaborate on his power but judging on his reluctance to even share his rare ability she doubted that he would want to explain it. Perhaps she could just ask one of her teachers about it later. Even Seth might know a little bit about Killian's power considering that he absorbed a variety of abilities.
Emmi merely nodded at his response, not knowing what else she could say. In fact the whole conversation they were having was basically over. She could spend more time digging into his history and what not, but the sun had already signaled the beginning of the day and the end of their meeting. "I should go." She pulled on her shoes and dusted the dirt off of her still wet jeans. "It was nice to meet you Killian. Hopefully I'll see you around." With a small and tired smile Emily walked away. Although a little on the sleepy side, the younger girl felt better having vented her problems to the teen. .
