Vincent had a smile on his face as he made his way to the gym. He had volunteered for the positions of the Fencing instructor and the martial arts instructor. Today was fencing, which he was much more skilled in. There were already students interested in the class which made it so that he made an effort to get things started as quickly as possible. Having donned a loose sleeved shirt with a dark brown leather vest over it, his gloves were hanging from his belt which held up a pair of black breeches and a pair of leather boots. His personal helmet tucked under his arm and the practice rapier with the dulled edge and capped point in his left hand.
Entering the room he noticed that some student were already there and he gave a wide smile as he walked over to the closet. These were the people who had clearly been there for quite a while. Some of them had their own gear, others would use what the Academy provided. Setting his sword and helmet down on a bench, Vincent then opened the closet and pulled out a rack of the fencing weapons then another with the protective vests on hangers while the helmets.
Looking to the students, he checked his watch. "Well we still have about five minutes before class starts, and I want to also give people a little time to get down here. So feel free to suit up while we wait, but I don't want to see anyone with their weapons in hand until I say it's okay. This is certainly a safety first based class." He said as he walked over by his gear and waited for the rest of his class to arrive.

Fencing class sounded interesting.
Charlotte was off to her second class; fencing. She thought it seemed interesting, so she decided to take it. What harm could it do, after all?
She walked through the hallway, dodging glances and winding her way through the groups of students and staff. Charlotte wondered who she would have in this class. What would it be like? How would she like it? How would sje benefit from it? She had to admit, she was kind of excited. Maybe she'd know one or two people in this class too.
Finally, she got to the gym. Checking the time on her phone, she loosened herself up. Right on time, as usual. Charlotte walked into the gym, and to her surprise, she saw her power control professor. Charlotte immediately flashed him a smile, and greeted him. "What a surprise," she said, "good afternoon, professor."
What a relief it was, she didn't have to learn another professor's name. She looked around at the empty gym. Was she really the first one to arrive, again? Charlotte was caught off-guard by that. Why was it she was the first one to always arrive to a class? Maybe it was just her, or maybe she was trying too hard. Who knows.

He had tried for the martial arts class but the response he had received back from the school had almost made him laugh. Due to his past they were suggesting him for a class that would require less direct contact with other students. Seth knew the reason. With any heightened emotion, he lost control of his power, and if he was in a martial arts class, he would accidentally absorb the power of whoever he was touching. So, fencing it was. A non-contact class that was supposed to teach him about safety and control. Not physical enough to hurt himself or others, but enough for him to learn how to control his emotions. He thought he had gotten out of that, when he had missed the power control class earlier today. Looks like he was going to have to suffer through it anyway.
A self-assured grin on his lips, he sauntered into the room. Other students were already milling around, some decked out in the odd looking apparel that was required for the fencing class. Seth had never fenced in his life, didn't see how anything so heavily reliant on safety could be interesting. Where was the thrill if there was no aspect of danger? His dark brown eyes scanned the room, studying the people and dismissing them just as quickly as he laid eyes on them. He would find something to do in this class, surely.
Pursing his lips, he kept in a groan as he saw the power control professor standing within the room. Great. He should've guessed that the teacher would be one in the same. Hopefully this professor wouldn't realize that Seth was one of the students that hadn't shown up to his other class. Sticking his hands into his pockets, he looked with vague interest at the equipment on the racks. Suit up? How boring. Stifling the urge to roll his eyes at the lack of excitement, he grabbed the closest suit to him. Almost mechanically, he put on the pieces, securing it to his body. His gaze caught on the swords. Well, he didn't really know what they were called, seeing as they were dull on the edges and the tip was covered to prevent injuries. It felt like a child's game to Seth.
He turned away, feeling awkward and stiff in the protective gear that was required. Bored and searching for something to entertain himself, he considered the other students in the room. With his ability of absorption, he could practically feel the power radiating off the others. Power. Desire ran through him, but he kept it in check, securing an impassive look onto his features.

It was just like any other year, any other first day of school. Serinity stood at the door looking over the objects in her room just about ready to leave. Mental checks ensured she didn’t leave anything behind that she would need for the day. Alex had left sometime earlier for a class, so Serinity had the pleasure of getting ready alone. It was a blessing to do so. It gave one time to think, reflect. Think about what? All she could think about was how she hated those first day jitters. Would I be late to class, will I meet any new friends, will the teacher hate me, and do I look alright? Every kind of question flickered through her mind taking up space best used for other things. “Alright, let’s do this.” Opening the door, she stepped into the hall and made her way to her class.
Fencing. The idea of it sent shivers of anticipation down her spine. The class was new this semester taught by a new teacher. Having lived on campus for year, new things were a welcomed relief for Rini. It was always good to keep things fresh rather than stale. It kept her from getting more bored with Silas than she already was. What could be more fresh that Fencing, too!? Smiling, the blonde walked into Silas and headed straight for the gym eager to get started on fencing. She hoped she would be good, but that was really up in the air. Serinity wasn’t known for grace and fencing required a good bit of that. It also called for hand eye coordination as well as strategic planning. Rini also lacked in those areas. Maybe fencing wasn’t such a good idea after all…
It took only a couple of minutes to make it into the gym room where the class was being held. Once inside, she looked around the room noticing how some students made it in earlier as well as the teacher. Her eyes scanned over the guy taking note. Silas accepted new teachers frequently wanting the students to have as many class options as possible. He seemed nice enough. That was the conclusion Serinity came to after her initial examination. Only time would tell, though. It happened more often than it should where teachers would seem nice then dump a boat ton of work on you throughout the year. Rini really hoped he wasn’t one of those guys. She hated those kinds.
Crossing the classroom to where most of the students mulled around, Serinity eyed the gear while biting her lip. She had absolutely no idea where these protective garments were supposed to go on her body. Looking around she found a guy who seemed have some sort of idea how these things went on. She didn’t know him, but Serinity watched Seth for a moment following his actions and putting on the gear like he did praying she didn’t come off as some kind of creepy stalker. God, I hope he’s not putting these things on wrong. Frowning, she looked down at the finished product. “I feel so weird.” She felt constricted and hot already. The gear was a little snug which was something she didn’t prefer. More of a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, this stuff made her feel self-conscious.

Vincent looked over as he was adressed by a familiar student. "A pleasure to see you again Charlotte, glad to see your punctuality is shaping up to be reliable." He replied as he waved to the gear. "Please help yourself. And if you have any problems, ask one of the people already suited up or myself." He said warmly as a few more students arrived.
He walked along the class, helping to make sure that everyone was properly outfitted for the class. That was as much as part of the combat, was making sure you and your partner was ready. As he walked along, he noticed one of the students seeming to radiate some form of disinterest in the class, though upon a longer look there seemed to be something else. He made a point of walking by Seth and giving a grin. "You look like someone who would do well to help me with my demonstrations today." He said as he passed him and patted him on the shoulder. "You might find that a bit more interesting as you can get something of a head start on the others if you stay focused." He added as he moved on.
The rest of the class was looking good so far, aside from the blond student who looked like she was a little uncomfortable. He grinned as he saw that the stuff was on rather tight. "It doesn't need to be that snug." He said as he walked up to her. "You want the leathers to keep from sliding around on you, but they don't need to be put on too tightly. It will constrict your breathing and hinder mobility." He said without any trace of a condescending tone. He then gave a small wink. "Though if it's any consolation, you got everything in the right place." He added before moving on and checking his watch. He would give it a couple more minutes before starting. In the meanwhile he would let the students just mingle and relax. This was a class best carried out when everyone was comfortable.

words // 647 // tagged // Vincent/Charlotte/Seth/Rini boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A Daniel walked down the nearly empty hallway, the strap of his bag digging into his shoulder slightly. He was running later than usual, having been caught up with his clothes. He'd already lit one shirt on fire and had to change at the last minute. It was the prospect of a fencing class that made him a little nervous. Any type of combat wasn't really his thing, but he needed to stay in shape somehow, and fencing sounded more interesting than a generic gym class. Besides, it was time he learned something new. He tried to keep that optimistic attitude as he slowed at the gym doors. Peering inside, he saw that many of the students were already gathered and he wondered if he was late. His phone said he was right on time, but he hurried inside regardless.
Professor Monroe was teaching this class, which was a bonus in Daniel's mind. The man was attentive, encouraging, fair, and he did his best to make things interesting. He ducked his head slightly at being a little late. "Sorry, Professor." There was no way he was explaining the reason. Daniel was embarrassed enough as it was. He dropped his bag inside the door and looked around to see what everyone else was doing. He got a couple happy surprises in the form of Charlotte and Rini, both of whom he'd already had classes with. That would definitely make time move a bit faster. Of course, "hands-on" classes always seemed to fly by anyway. Now if only he could get through it without any accidents.
Smiling at Charlotte and Rini both, he made his way over to the area where the gear was kept and stared at it. Then, glancing over his shoulder, he watched what the others were doing. This seemed horribly confusing already, but he told himself that he'd get through it. “I feel so weird.” Daniel looked over at Rini who was standing fully padded and looking miserable. It was hard not to laugh, but he managed with only a smile and slightly raised eyebrows. "I think we'll all feel pretty weird by the end of the class." Even smothered in padding as she was, it was harder to pull his eyes away from her than it should have been. Focus, Daniel.
The gear looked much better stacked on shelves and propped in corners, but Daniel did what he was obviously supposed to do, which was put it on. He'd never seen so many buckles, straps, and velcro in his life and that included the two years he spent living with a gothic foster brother. Daniel was going to look ridiculous, but there was nothing for it. He'd much rather look like a git than to get accidentally gutted in his first ever fencing class. Peeking at the only other male student out of the corner of his eye, he fitted the last piece into place and strapped it on, hoping he didn't look half as stupid as he felt. He imagined it was a bit like getting hugged by the stay-puff marshmallow man. How he was supposed to be graceful in this get-up was beyond him, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to give it a shot.
Directing his words to no one in particular, he looked down at himself. "Well, at least we all match." He stood back and watched as Professor Monroe studied them and he hoped he wasn't in trouble for being behind. The other guy got picked out for demonstrations, and in Daniel's mind it was either because the guy knew what he was doing or because he needed more attention. Idly, he wondered if Professor Monroe could tell at a glance as he sometimes seemed to. Daniel made a mental note to be more careful around him.

This class proved to be a big surprise.
Charlotte looked to where Vince had gestured. She eyed the gear. It looked odd, but at least they would be protected. However, she questioned it's cleanliness. She smiled to the professor as he spoke about her punctuality. She planned to keep it that way, too. And then she began to suit up.
Just as she finished suiting up, Daniel walked in. What a tardy pants. Late for possibly one of the best classes. She shook her head at him. "Tsk tsk, Ashford, late for class." She chuckled at her little joke. She said it in a playful tone, of course. Hopefully he could take a joke. Then again, she remembered the question Blake had asked in their first class, and he seemed to take it well.
With a final do-over of her equipment, she went to go join the rest of her pupils. She hoped this class would be as exciting as she thought when she first signed up for it. She was ready to begin, when everyone else was ready, of course. What she was looking forward to the most was holding the sword. Charlotte thought fencing looked like the best thing in the world, and she'd always wanted to do it.

He supposed that he should be paying attention to what the teacher might be about to tell the class, but in all honesty, Seth wasn't interested. He wasn't interested in being a student, in being told everyday that he knew nothing and he definitely wasn't interested in a class that was supposed to teach him control. He already had a class for that, two, if you counted the simulations class. Which he had also missed for the day. It was already a habit, and he'd only been at Silas a week. Old habits die hard, even in a new environment.
Everyone here seemed so… cheerful. The thought was awkward and not at all welcome. Yet, all around him, he could see it. The relaxed manner and easy going behavior of the students and the professor. They belonged here. A sense of belonging was never something Seth was good at. He glanced over, just catching a glance from one of the other students. He smirked slightly, guessing from her fumbling fingers that she had been watching to see how he put on the equipment. Apparently, it was a good thing for both of them that he had looked it up before showing up for class. He knew it would sound lame if he said anything about it though, like he was trying to do well in this class. Truth was, he just didn't like to look the fool, and he was determined to never give anyone the chance to see him like that.
Her comment didn't fall on deaf ears. Seth turned to say something to the girl, telling her that the gear was probably on too tight. The professor chose that moment to walk by. A blank expression claimed his face and he watched calmly as the man talked. So happy; it disgusted him. Ahead? Who did this guy think he was kidding? He'd just picked him out because he saw how bored Seth looked. Well, Seth wasn't planning on letting anyone use him as some kind of example. He liked attention, but he didn't like it when it was used manipulatively. Hypocrite, he whispered to himself. Shaking his head, he stepped away from the professor, who was now helping the girl.
His gaze soon slid over to a new student, late. Jealousy gripped him at the attention this guy was receiving, from girls no less. He grit his teeth and glanced away, overcome with the need for power, anything to get rid of this feeling. Taking a deep breath, he fixed his dark brown eyes on the professor. He steeled himself against the onslaught of the power in the air, blocking it out as best he could.

Matthias Flynn was running through the halls of Silas, late for class as per usual. Punctuality and him seemed to rarely get along; the few times he did manage to get someplace on time were usually total accidents. Rounding a corner, he almost slammed into another student, converse clad feet slipping on the hard floor as he tried to keep his momentum. Then a thought occurred to him... "The hell am I runnin' for?"
Moments later all traces of Matt had vanished from the hallway. As a teleporter, travel really was no trouble for him at all. You'd think with such an ability that he'd never be late for anything. Unfortunately, there was one small drawback to using his power while in the middle of a sprint. While he materialized out of thin air in the appropriate location (the gym), he had a lot of extra momentum. Unable to slow himself down, he literally popped into the classroom and crashed head first into the rack of helmets. Equipment scattered everyone as he tried to pick himself up.
It was rare that helmets caused injury to a head instead of protecting it, but this was one of those cases. One hand ruffled bright red hair as he massed the new lump on his head, the other supporting his weight as he sat in the middle of the mess he'd made. Looking sheepish, he glanced around at his fellow classmates, purposefully avoiding the professor's eyes. "I, uh, meant to do that!" It was a weak attempt at a cover up story, but considering he had signed up for fencing without actually knowing what it was or having any idea of what he was supposed to do, it was the best he could come up with. Hopefully Professor Monroe wouldn't be too mad...

If a student needed a little prodding in the right direction, he was there to offer it. One such student received such attention, too. Serinity had to stifle any smirks or giggles that might emerge when the professor informed Mr. Hot&Cool Seth that he would be today’s assistant. Bet that’ll make him pay attention now. Although, she had to admit she was mighty grateful for being able to watch how he put his gear on.
A tardy student hurried into the room. When she caught a glimpse of who it was, Serinity instantly blushed and looked away. Ahhh, Daniel Ashford. Serinity had liked him from the moment she first saw him in one of their shared classes. Since then, she wished she could get to know him better. Maybe if they were a little more than acquaintances, he would ask her out since she would be too shy to do it. However, Rini didn’t hold her breath that they would really get to know each another. The boys always seemed to overlook her. Sure she had had a boyfriend here or there, but the relationships never lasted long. Serinity wouldn’t be surprise if Daniel didn’t even remember her. Then, he talked to her.
Looking up with a smile and a fierce blush, Serinity chuckled at his comment pleased he even bothered to reply. That was a step in the right direction, right?! Or was she making a mountain out of an ant hill? He was probably just being polite. So as not to look like the creeper, Serinity turned her attention away from Daniel while he got on his gear. Her eyes drifted around the room with her mind straying from thought to thought. Blue eyes focused in on one of the other female students hanging around. Serinity wasn’t quite sure who she was, but she knew Daniel. Although she had lived at Silas for years, she didn’t make it a habit of learning everyone’s name. Flashing the girl a small, respectful smile, she continued with her room gazing.
Room observing over, the blonde turned her attention back to her attire and frown lightly. Since the prof didn’t mention anything about Seth’s suit being out of order, Serinity figured she was in the clear as well. However, she was just slightly wrong. After a brief explanation as to why she felt so awkward, Serinity smiled sheepishly and politely said, “Thank you professor,” before loosening up the leather straps like he advised her to do. They were still snug with what she assumed was the proper fit but not totally constricting. Her eyes flickered to Daniel hoping he didn’t hear about her mistake. It was then he decided to make his comment.
Serinity laughed, a little louder than she intended to. The remark wasn’t that overly funny. She was just nervous and laughing was a way of releasing tension. Realizing her laugh was a little uncalled for, the girl’s cheeks became even redder. Looking away from Daniel, she made a grimacing face hating herself for being so silly before focusing hard on the wall across from her with a determined expression. Rini was bent on redeeming herself! Ooooh you’re the smooth one, Rini. Out of nowhere a student literally popped into the classroom and went head first into the helmet rack causing Serinity to jump. Her adrenaline pulsed through her veins kicking in the fight or flight response. Before she could even gather her thoughts to ask if he was ok, the boy was picking himself up while rubbing his no doubt bruised skull and admitting to doing that on purpose. Riiiiiiiiight. After warily watching the ginger for a couple of moments, Serinity turned to the professor knowing he must be ready to finally start the lesson.

For the most part, class seemed to be getting set up smoothly. He still walked along the students, making sure they were prepared. Then Daniel arrived. "Well hello there Dan, I thought I saw your name on my roster. Good to see you could join us." He said. He smiled at the apology. "Don't worry. I tend to give a free pass or two when starting, though we'll be having a talk if this becomes a habit." He replied before waving to the gear. "Get suited up, we are about to begin." He said and allowed the class to mingle a little more. Some of the more practiced students were doing warm-ups and being good enough to stay away from the others to keep accidents from happening. Something he felt was fine.
Checking his watch he waved his hand and the door to the gym room shut and that was the last of it. Or so he thought. "Very well class. Some of you may have already had me for intro to power control so we have met. As for the others. I am Vincent Monroe, please just call me Vincent. And today we are going to- Oh my." He said, the last bit due to the fact that out of nowhere, a student crashed into the helmet rack. This had to be Matthias, he had been informed about how the student might arrive if late. "Well Matthias, better late than never. I guess that bump on the head is more of a reprimand than I can really give you." He said before flashing a smile in good nature. "Though I would slow down in grabbing your gear. The helmet goes on last, not first." He said with a wink to show he was just teasing the kid.
"If one of our students would be kind enough to help Matt get suited up, we can begin." He said as a couple of the students moved to help him out. "As I was saying, you can call me Vincent, I normally do not care to deal with formalities. This class is for rapier fencing, more versatile and engaging than most, matched only by the saber in it's field." He said, keeping the talking as minimal as he could. "Today we will go over some of the basics." He said and then gave a smile. "Seth, would you and Serenity please don your helmets and come to the front of the class? You are going to give me a hand today." He said. As the class waited he spoke up again.
"You may notice we have some students that have clearly been at this for a while. I have chosen Seth and Serenity as today we will cover the basics and that is actually best displayed with relative beginners. An advanced student can often unintentionally display something that is effective, but not among the basics." He said as he himself donned his own helmet and then put his gloves on. A flick of the wrist and his rapier flew from the wall into his left hand.

words // 600 // tagged // Vince/Charlotte/Seth/Rini/Matt boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A Daniel was glad he wasn't going to be getting in trouble for being late. He was usually on time and tried to make a point of being early, but sometimes it just didn't work out the way he wanted. He rolled his eyes at Charlotte with a small grin, taking the reprimand with good grace as he fitted the padding on himself. People often thought that just because he was polite that he didn't have a sense of humor, which was quite untrue. Daniel loved to laugh and he loved to joke around as long as he wasn't hurting anyone. More often than not, it turned into him cracking jokes on himself, which seemed to work out quite nicely for all involved. Nobody's feelings were hurt that way.
He tried to watch everyone at once for a few reasons. Daniel didn't want to miss anything, for one. Vincent was walking among them with his observant gaze, letting Rini know that her gear was too tight. As she adjusted her padding, he struggled not to watch, not wanting to seem like he was staring. Instead, he turned his gaze in a much safer direction, watching Seth's expression. The guy looked like he was under some pressure, but there wasn't really anything he could do about that without knowing the cause. Most of the students here had issues of some sort and as much as Daniel wanted to help, he knew he couldn't. Some people simply didn't want help, or were too lost in their problems to even know help was available. Besides, he didn't really know how to help in the first place.
As soon as he made his comment about them all matching, there was a laugh to his left and he turned his head to Rini with a smile, glad that someone found him amusing. His gaze lingered on the faint blush on her cheeks; a stray hair that had escaped her control; the way her lips curved when she smiled. Then she turned away and Daniel mentally shook himself. He was an idiot. There was no possible way Serinity Dawson liked him. There had to be some universal law that didn't allow it, no matter how much he would be pleased by the idea. She was the Headmistress's granddaughter, and that meant she was pretty much off limits to him. Against his will, his eyes traveled back to her out of the corner of his eye. She was looking rather intently at the wall across from her and he wondered what was so interesting about it.
Before he could decide, there was a crash behind him and he turned to see a guy picking himself out of the helmet rack. Where had he come from? Daniel could have sworn he wasn't there before. Vincent's voice identified him as Matthias, and Daniel filed the name away among others. He chuckled lightly at the the guy's comment, though. There was no way he'd done that on purpose. Still, it was the sort of thing he'd say in that situation. The fact just made it more amusing in Daniel's mind. Shaking his head, he tried to focus on what Vincent was saying, but it wasn't easy. Rini was more distracting than he would have thought. It had always been that way, from the day he'd met her. He drummed his fingers against his padded thigh as Seth and Serinity were picked out for demonstrations. Ignoring his nerves, he turned toward her slightly. "Good luck. Not that you'll need it." He smiled and tried to sound as un-creepy as possible.

Beginners. Examples. What a lovely way to remind Seth why he hated school so much. He should've just went ahead and skipped this class as well. It was an obvious waste of his time. He didn't take pleasure in being the object lesson of the day. He crossed his arms, surveying the room with a bored expression. There were the experts off on the other side of the room, showing everyone their skills. He rolled his eyes. Blankly, he watched the professor as he talked. The man seemed to enjoy rambling on and on about nothing in particular. If he was going to keep this up, Seth was going to be driven insane by the incessant chattering.
Fidgeting inside the stifling gear, he grit his teeth together. If they didn't get this show on the road he was definitely considering just bailing altogether. There had to be something more exciting to do. His gaze drifted to the door, it taunted him. So close, yet so far. He let out a soft sigh, looking back at the students as they got ready. A couple of them appeared to be flirting. Especially the Rin girl and the guy who hadn't even bothered to show up on time. Good grief, just go on a date already. He hated the games people played, being all coy and pretending not to like each other until they knew for sure if it was mutual. It was all very Junior High, and it annoyed him. Or maybe it was the fact that he wasn't the one flirting. Whatever. He glanced away from the pair.
The crash wasn't the first thing that caught his attention. The sudden blast of power within the room, power that hadn't been there seconds ago, was what made him aware of the new presence within the room. A half-smile claimed his lips as he watched the tardy student pick himself up off the ground with a half-hearted cover up. His eyebrow quirked up in amusement at the lame excuse. Surely he could've come up with something a little more believable. Still, teleportation. That was an interesting development.
His grin slipped from his lips the moment he heard the professor speak again. Teasing the late comer, and acting like they were old friends. This guy seriously needed to look in the job description of a teacher. Seth regarded him cooly as he talked, going on about how they were going to start and what the class was about. Don your helmets. He almost cracked a smile at how old-fashioned that sounded. He glanced over at the girl, who was apparently his new temporary partner. Good luck? He choked on a laugh as Daniel spoke. This wasn't a sparring match, or some big competition, they were just going to learn the basics of fencing. A completely danger-less sport.
Seth shot a disbelieving glance as another girl followed suit. Geez, why did everyone think they needed luck for this stupid exercise? He quickly walked towards the front, where the professor had motioned them to go. He tilted his head ever so slightly towards Rin. "Better do good, sweetheart. The boyfriend's watching." With a wicked grin, he slid the helmet on.

He seemed to draw a lot of stares but only comments from the teacher. That was good, because this had been far from one of his more awesome displays of talent. He would have to impress them all later with something way cool in order to make sure they all forgot this little incident completely. And judging by the row of shiny, metal, pointy objects neatly arranged on one of the other racks (thank the heavens he hadn't crashed into that one!) he would have his chance to do just that.
"Matty," he automatically corrected as he got up and kicked a few of the unused helmets towards the shelf. He'd clean it up at the end of class if the teacher caught him before managing to escape. Until then, he'd just leave it all in a semi-messy state and let mister casual professor get on with the lesson.
As Vincent (or Vinny as Matty mentally dubbed him) continued on with the lecture, he attempted to suite himself up. The jacket had him grimacing with its back-situated zipper and strap that clipped between his legs. He muttered something akin to "straightjacket" as he struggled his way into it, and if it hadn't been for the kind help of one of the older, experienced students, he never would have gotten it right. The poor boy's face was flushed almost as red as his hair after that, and he refused to look at anyone as he joined the rest of the class, the offending helmet tucked beneath an arm.
Matty didn't take his eyes off his feet until two students had been called to the front of the room. Their being hand picked as the two worst students in the class - Vincent said he wanted beginners so that meant they had to be pretty bad, right? - made him feel a little better, and that cocky aura was again pulsing through his veins. He was here; he was suited up; he could do this! And since it looked like he might have been the youngest in the class, he was officially determined to outperform them all.
