She really didn't want to be here- in fact, she just wanted to be at home with her God-knows-how-many siblings and a nice book.
But she had no choice- her family wouldn't take her back. Darn. So she was here, in the stimulation room, trying to get a little control of her powers. She set a program, not really knowing what to do (it was her first time) and stepped back.
She waited, but nothing happened. She tentively stepped forwards was plunged into darkness- and a ball, about the size of a golf ball, came shooting towards her- on fire. She didn't even think, she just pushed her hand towards the ball and the ball was drenched. She smiled and got ready for the next ball.
About nine balls later, they got bigger. Flaming tennis balls bounced sinisterly to the panicing girl as she tried to step around them to stop the machine. As if in response, the machine increased the size of the balls, again and again, until she couldn't have picked them up. One whipped across her arm and she gasped out loud as the heat struck her. She placed her wet hand on the fire and it hissed.
Right. That's it. She frowned and ducked under one of the balls- hit a button on the machine- yes! It was done. The lights flared back on and she crumpled to the floor. Singed, battered and weary, Nerina groaned to herself, "That was so pathetic, Nee. Pull yourself together, girl, or you're not going to make it in this school..."She rubbed a trickle of water off her face and sighed. |

There was something she wanted to try. In fact, the female had though about it several times before, but she actually never had the will to do it. Mostly, she was scared of the consequences... she didn't really need to gain a God complex right now and start threatening to unleash the Armaggedon or a Zombie Apocalypse every time she happened to be bored. Even while she was a student at Silas, there was very little the teacher could teach her. Probability manipulators were rare, and the knowledge of what they could do was even more scarce. Adele knew she had good luck at card games - she had good luck at games in general, she knew she would be never caught outside without an umbrella in a rainy day, because it would simply stop raining the moment she realized she hadn't brought one. And so forth.
She wanted to test her limits. Something she had never done while she was a student. She wanted to know if in the event of a tornado, she'd be able to stop the winds, or keep an house from falling apart. She was curious... And it was best to test her curiosity in the Simulation Room than somewhere else, were people could get hurt. And so, the librarian had ditched her workstation for a while in order to satisfy her curiosity. Adele made her way down the hall, her flats barely making any sound at all against the floors.
The walk to the Simulation Room was a short one, but unfortunately, Adele found the place to be occupied (well, so much for being always lucky). She reached the door in time to hear the young girl complaining and she couldn't help but smile. "You know, I hardly doubt that they'll kick you out for still not being in full control of your powers" she commented casually as she walked inside the room. outfit || hope you like it!

Nerina glanced up as she stood at the girl lady who walked in. "I'm not willing to take any chances," she replied in all seriousness. "What if I'm in a crowd, near a fountain, and it soaks everyone except me. What if I'm in a water park and I completely stop all of the rides that I'm not on. I would reveal our world to everyone..." She let slip of some of the nasty thoughts that had been whizzing around her head for a while, ever since she found her power. It had manifested late, she knew; what if, because of that, she wasn't ever able to gain control of her powers?
She extended her hand towards the woman, wincing when she felt the recent burn stretch. "I'm Nerina Eaton. Do you... do you go here too? Though I'm not sure that I count, as I only arrived a couple of days ago." She was getting a bit nervous- babbling, and starting to rub her thumb and finger together- and telltale drops of water began to drip from the friction. She bit her lip, not realising the consequence. The small puddle began to splash slightly as each drop hit the surface, possibly getting close to the woman who's answer Nerina was waiting for. |

"Well, if that were me watching, I'd probably just think you were quite lucky." Adele commented with a shrug and a light chuckle. "Besides, all you said there could as easily happen to me. Though our powers are quite different." It was true. If such events were to happen and Adele was in the vicinity, she would have probably be the one not getting wet. Or the one in the only functional ride. It was like a side effect of her powers... self-preservation instincts if you may. The french woman would always be the lucky one. Unless her emotions got in the way, in which case she might as well not even try to set a foot out of her house.
The younger female introduced herself as Nerina Eaton. Adele nodded, acknowledging her name and couldn't help but laugh at Nerina's question. "That's awfully kind of you Nerina, but I'm not a student. Well, not anymore at least. I'm the librarian. My name is Adele Benoit." she replied, taking Nerina's hand. The girl seemed too nervous to be in Silas and she couldn't help to feel sympathetic with her. Adele smiled as she watched the droplets of water fall from her fingers. "I know this is probably easier said than done, but you really shouldn't worry too much about your powers. The harder you try to control them, the less you end up being able to do. Sometimes it's best to let things... flow."
Adele noticed the burn mark on Nerina's arm and frowned. She approached the girl, stepping over the puddle and she motioned towards her arm. "If I may?" she asked, deciding to give it a try. It wouldn't hurt now would it? "I promise I won't hurt you"outfit || sorry for the delay!

She hesitated before asking, "And... what would your power be? If you don't mind me asking." She hadn't met another Hydro before (after discovering Silas, Neri had put together a list of powers and their nicknames) and she wondered what kind of watery fun they could have together.
"A bit easier," she admitted as she stepped forwards to let Adele have a look at her arm. She rolled up the sleeve and grimace; it looked a lot worse than it felt. She looked at the burn, looked at her fingers, and said to Adele, "Hold on, I- I'd like to try something..." She positioned her fingers over the angry scorch and rubbed them together. It was a bit trickier, doing it out of force and not sheer emotion, but eventually she collected a little ball of water in her hand, about the same size as a medium snail shell. She let go of the water and made a little "mm-ah" noise of discomfort as the cool water splashed against the fire mark. She held out her arm a little, signalling that she had finished. |

Adele smiled at Nerina’s question. “It’s nothing related to water manipulation, if that’s what you’re wondering” she replied with a quizzical smile “I am a probability manipulator. That means I can make unlikely things happen and likely things not happen.” It was a pretty generic description of what she could do, and the less complicated one as well. Her powers weren’t as linear as most people’s, not as simple as Nerina’s water manipulation. The young girl could control water at her will, make it do what she wanted, and even create it out of nowhere. With Adele, things weren’t so simple. There wasn’t a set limit to what she could do, as every phenomenon is ruled by probability. So, in theory, there was nothing she couldn’t do and although, unlike Nerina she wouldn’t be able to create water out of nowhere, she would most likely be able to stop or create a tidal wave. But Adele would rather not think about it, and just stick with simple stuff.
She watched as Nerina splashed some more water against her burn mark, most definitely in hopes to quench the pain caused by the brun. Once she was done, she offered her arm for Adele to see. Being careful not to touch the burnt area, Adele frowned a bit. What was it that she was trying to do exactly? Heal Nerina’s wound? She didn’t have healing powers, it wasn’t likely she’d even be able to do such a thing. But she had to try, after all, what would be the odds of her wound healing in a matter of seconds? That was precisely her point. “I’m not sure this is going to even work, I’m basing this whole experiment on semantics alone.”
For a while nothing happened, and Adele was starting to think that maybe healing people would be the line her powers didn’t cross, until something started to happen, Nerina’s skin returning to its original state. Satisfied with the results, Adele let go of the other girl’s arm and smiled. “Wow, who would have thought that would actually happen?”
