But then again, she should have been suspicious, with it being a product of her desperate state of boredom. But as she came across a dead end for what could be the hundredth time that night, Maeve begun to think the world had something against her. She didn’t remember the labyrinth being this difficult to get through, but then again, it had been quite some time since she had last visited the place. And now, she was lost.
All because she couldn’t sleep.
Not being able to sleep was a rare thing for Maeve. Sure, she was mostly a nocturnal person – getting her to sleep was a battle and waking her up was a war ever since she was little – but when it was time to sleep, it was time to sleep, and she could pretty much sleep through a hurricane. So, on the rare occasions when she actually couldn’t sleep, the female found herself clueless as to what she should do. A book tended to be the most common of choices because even though she loved to read, her eyes would eventually get tired and she would fall asleep, but there had been some times when she had opted to draw something – again, something that was bound to make her eyes grow tired and force her to sleep. Yet, she rarely decided to get out of bed and explore, or roam about the school, especially on her own. After all, if she was breaking curfew, she might as well do with with someone else.
It hadn’t been her initial plan to go outside and enter the labyrinth, but after being threatened by her roommate one too many times, she decided to leave the other girl alone and find a better place to read. And given that the weather wasn’t too bad, the female had ended up stepping outside to take a stroll throughout the courtyard, still carrying the book she had previously been trying to read. One thing led to another, and before she knew it, she was inside the labyrinth, clueless as to what would be the best way out.
The female had conjured a small orb of light to help her see the path (she was already lost, she didn’t want to walk into one of the hedges as well), and the small thing floated ahead of her, casting a dull golden glow against the green hedges… if anything, it made the place a bit more creepy. “Yes, Maeve, cause you really need to think someone’s after you right now” she scolded herself rolling her eyes. But really, why the hell had she decided to go in the stupid thing? It could be hours before she ever found her way out. Well, if things got too terrible, she could always call someone.
Oh, wait, she had left her cell phone in her room.
Perfect.

It was late. Very late. And so early in the school semester to boot. Serinity sighed heavily and crossed her arms over her chest. It was freaking cold, too! Grumbling, the blonde ran her hands up and down her arms hoping to put just a little warmth back in them. Her sigh caused a wave of mist to form in front of her face. “When I find that dog, I’m gonna kill him. I swear, I’m gonna kill him.” Serinity was being a good dog owner and taking Hewie out for a good long walk. The poor guy had been cooped up for a while with Serinity doing this and that trying to get things in order for school. Hewie didn’t mind running around by himself but it wasn’t really a walk unless Rini was with him. The spoiled brat.
So, here she was. Out in the Labyrinth. Lost. Why you ask? Well, let’s just say that Hewie insisted on going inside the maze. From the start Rini was against the idea, but it was really hard to resist the pleading, brown eyed mutt. Inside the labyrinth they went. Three minutes into the walls of tall shrubbery Hewie gave a resounding bark and bolted off without further warning! The dog had left Rini floundering around after him. She saw him run around one corner and that was it. He was gone. Not a trace of the white shepherd could be found anywhere.
Gritting her teeth at the thought of Hewie running off Serinity stomped further into the maze. Maybe she should call out to him? What good had it done her so far? By now ten minutes had passed and Hewie was nowhere to be found. She was alone, cold, and nearly exhausted. Only hours before had she been out in Willowbrook shopping for clothes. Now she was tromping around the maze and her feet were killing her. At least she was wearing her comfortable pair of tennis shoes. “Hewie, you stupid mongrel where ARE you?!” she called out the frustration evident in her voice.
Off in another part of the Labyrinth the mischievous dog sniffed around a hedge wall and stopped suddenly. His large ears stood in alert. Hewie paused for the longest moment listening to the sounds of the night. Few sounds met his ears. Giving a gruff snort the dog continued pacing forward maneuvering easily around the maze. He had traveled around it many times. Even though the walls were known to move around when others weren’t watching, Hewie could usually find the exit… eventually. An unknown light source began to enter his view just around a corner. Again the dog stopped, plopped his rump on the ground, and waited for the source of the light to follow. As Hewie’s tail wagged back and forth, the grass parted way rustling gently. To human ears not expecting the sound, it no doubt would send a chill or two up the spine.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 450px; height: 400px; background: url( ); border-radius: 30 30 30 30 px; padding: 10px;] goodbye apathy, so long fancy free, i don't wanna be you Maeve wasn't exactly a girl who got scared easily. She loved horror movies for crying out loud! But one thing was to see a horror flick on tv and laugh at what was happening to the people in it, other was to be stuck inside a creepy maze at god knows what hour in the morning with no clue whether to turn right or left. And not knowing if someone else was around too.
Yeah, that was a bit scary.
The female huffed disapprovingly. For the last time, she wasn't scared! There was nothing more around here than the stupid bushes. No other people roaming around, trying to kill her. Seriously, it even sounded silly if she thought about it, the school had a good security system to stop things like that to happen. And come on! She had powers, she was more than safe. All the female had to do now was take a deep breath, focus in getting out of the darn labyrinth and...
What the hell was that bloody noise?
It wasn't until Maeve stopped to think whether she should make a left or a right that she heard the low - and rather disturbing - sound. Frowning, the female tried to figure out what it could be. It sounded like... the rustling of grass? Not that she had much experience with hearing grass rustle, as on a regular basis the other and much louder sounds overpowered it. Of course that on the current situation, the gentle sound filled the air, and was downright creepy.
The female swallowed hard and tried to decide what her next move would be. Of course she was curious about what the source of that noise could be, but she had also seen enough horror movies to know that being curious never lead to anything good.... and was she seriously considering this again? "Honestly, Mae you're being silly." she muttered before taking a deep breath and turning towards the sound, the small orb of light turning the corner ahead of her. Well, if it turned out to be a psychopath she could always shoot him and run like hell. It was a great plan, if she could pretend she wasn't stranded within a labyrinth.
The sight that greeted her wasn't exactly what she had been expecting. Upon turning around the corner, the female found herself staring at a dog. "A Dog?" she asked out loud as if the question would grant her any more insight on the situation. Nevertheless, Maeve was happy it was a dog instead of anything else. Not to mention she was feeling quite stupid.
Approaching the dog with a small smile, the female pondered whether she could pet him or not. "What are you doing here buddy? You also got lost?"

Patiently, Hewie sat where he plopped his rump. Eventually the orb of light came around the corner soon followed by a young girl. Instantly the dog’s tail went to work mowing down the grass where he sat. Unable to contain his excitement for long the white German Shepherd bounded over to Maeve and woofed softly. His muzzle extended straight for her hand demanded the royal petting. When he had had enough the mutt drew back with his tail still wagging and pink tongue lolling to the side of his muzzle. The lost student asked if Hewie was lost in the maze to which the dog replied with a gruff snort. Of course he wasn’t lost! He could stroll around here all day and eventually find the exit. It wasn’t that hard, silly girl. All you had to do was use your nose!
Giving a sharp bark, he reached out again to tug at the girl’s pants or shirt, whichever he could reach first. If he was able to get ahold of one of the garments, he would tug at them gently telling her to follow him. Hewie’s liquid brown optics peered up into her own as he began to pace away from her. Stopping only a couple feet ahead he turned around with a woofed before continued around a corner. The last glimpse she would catch would be of the mongrel’s fuzzy white rear.
Meanwhile, in a distant part of the maze, a chilled Serinity gritted her teeth and ran her hands up and down the sides of her arms for the hundredth time. Sure she was wearing a jacket, but it wasn’t that great at keeping prolonged cold exposure out. Next time she was soooo going to plan accordingly and grab the heaviest jacket she had. Stupid dog. Out of nowhere, Serinity was flung forward driving her body forcibly toward the ground. With a shriek her hands flew out in front of her just before her face hit the grass.
Unfortunately, the momentum of the fall pushed her head forward and straight into a rock. The blood instantly began to stream slowly down her face, rolling down over her eye and temporarily obscuring her already bad vision with red. “Son of a …” A string of curse words flowed from the blonde’s mouth as she cursed this and that. Nothing was safe from her sailor mouthed words. Moments slipped by in which the girl lay where she fall simply letting the moment of sheer pain pass. When it was bearable she sat up reeling with the sudden light-headedness that overcame her. “Ugh, why. Seriously... Why?”
Frowning, Rini tenderly touched at the wound and wiped away some of the blood. The smallest trickle of red continued to fall down her face. This time it bypassed her eye and skirted around it. “Great. Now I’m lost AND bleeding. Freaking dog. Let me shove a rock in your face and see how you like it.” Growling the blonde slowly proceeded to get back up on her feet and continue her way through the maze. It was her only option. There was no way she was spending tonight out here alone. Wait a second… Was there someone else in the maze?
