Did you know there are places in the world where average people are forced to fight for entertainment and gambling? I’m not talking about fan favorite sports. This isn’t some league of men and women who are paid to fight. The place that I am describing is where humans compete until one is the victor and the other is dead. Remember those stories about Romans and Gladiators? Put a modern twist on that. What do you get? The Arena.
This is what we call it. It is a place where we modern day gladiators fight. But of course, you don’t know who we are. You don’t even know our world exists. It is kept secret and out of disapproving eyes. Those who bet on us are so far desensitized that most don’t even bat an eye if someone’s blood spurts onto the glass before them. If anything it excites them more. If we win, so do they. See, there’s a thing called Human Rights, but the organizers of the Arena choose to ignore them. Pop quiz: how did the Romans convince gladiators to fight? Trick question. Gladiators were usually the captured slaves of conquered lands. Now days, we are kidnapped. It is the only way to become an Arena competitor.
My therapist said it might help if I wrote about my experiences in the Arena, that it might help me cope with the horrors and demons. I don’t think there’s anything that can help me but it’s worth a shot. My name is Jane Chase and this is how I became a murderer.
