"Vente chai tea for a Cassel?" the barista shouted.
"Ope! That's me!" the golden-haired teen shouted. He had been taken by surprise. He made his way up to the counter and picked up his drink, then sat back down in front of his computer. He scrolled around on the social networking site he was currently logged in on, "liking" posts of friends back home.
He took a sip from his drink. He smiled after swallowing the tea. It was better than he had expected. He opened up the webcam on his laptop as he tried to decide on some cutesy pose to make with his tea. Drawing a blank, he pointed at his cup and smiled his brightest smile. After snapping the picture, he posted it on his feed with the caption 'Nothing is more relaxing than a tea in a cafe full of strangers!'
Cassel closed his laptop and leaned back in his seat, gazing at the other people in the cafe. In small-town Oklahoma, all you could ever do was people-watch. There was hardly ever anything to do. He noticed people make weird faces as they seemingly tried new drinks, students or professors typing away at their keyboards, and the cutest couple having a date. Cassel smiled at the cuteness of the date, wishing he could find someone that made him as happy as those two made each other.
Cassel took another swig of his tea and crossed his legs. He inhaled deeply and sighed. "Is there anything to do besides this?" he muttered.

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? Ryder pulled open the door to the small cafe, inhaling the amazing smell of coffee. She could never seem to get through a day without the much needed caffeine boost. With her earbuds in and music up full blast, the thoughts of everyone in the room were blocked out. It was almost peaceful, apart from the rock music she was bobbing her head to.
"Large cup, straight black." Oops, too loud. From the startled look of the barista she was pretty sure she had just shouted her order for the entire cafe to hear. With a bright grin an a half wave, she bowed to her avid crowd. Turning back to the counter, she put the money down and picked up the steaming cup that was waiting for her.
It was apparently a popular time to be out. Every student looked busy with work or were already wrapped up in a conversation… or other things. She wrinkled her nose at the coupe who were obviously on a date. She steered clear of the professors for obvious reasons. Squinting at the crowd of people, she finally picked out the only semi-empty table. A teen guy was sitting casually with his lap top nearby, but closed. He looked relaxed… and bored.
Pulling an earbud from her ear invited a rush of thoughts, but also the quiet comment from the guy. With a grin, she sat her coffee down, pulled a chair out and whipped it around so she could sit down on it backwards. "Well people watching can be pretty fascinating, if you're watching the right people." She winked at him jokingly, then pointed to the barista. At the same time she projected the music she was listening to into the man's mind. He turned bright red and whirled around.
"You hooligans turn down that music!"
The other customers blinked at him in confusion. Befuddled, the man slunk back to his duties.
"Some people do the strangest things." Okay, so maybe using your powers outside of the school wasn't technically allowed, but still… She peered over at him, wondering for a moment if he was the type of person to get mad about something like that. Some people were rather concerned about following the rules… "I'm Ryder."

Cassel raised an eyebrow as the girl sat down across from him. It wasn't everyday that a random cute girl sits down and starts talking to you. "It's not everyday that a random cute girl sits down and starts talking to you," Cassel said, giving a slight smirk.
"Well people watching can be pretty fascinating, if you're watching the right people," she had said. Cassel smiled at that.
"That depends. Are you the right people?" Cassel asked with a wink. Cassel ran his eyes over her. 'Seems like the right people to me,' he thought to himself. 'Beautiful hair. Ooh, those eyes are gorgeous. Those lips look amazing.' His positive commentary over the girl's appearance continued for a while.
After a few minutes, he realized she probably noticed he was checking her out. He made eye contact with her again and just smiled for a second, then saw she was pointing at the barista. He looked in that direction just in time to see him yell at some "hooligans" about their music. The man seemed to be looking at them. Cassel was insulted at first, but started to laugh as the man became obviously embarrassed.
"Some people do the strangest things. I'm Ryder," Cassel heard her say. He chuckled at the comment. "I know, right? You come here for some peace of mind, and crazy dudes start barking about loud music. I'm Cassel, by the way," he said. "How's your large cup, straight black?"

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? She chuckled slightly as he repeated his own thought aloud. A guy who says what he thinks, not bad. Putting her arms comfortably on the back of the chair, she leaned forward and sipped her coffee, blowing on it to try and cool it off.
"Hm… That all depends on what you mean by the word 'right'?" She opened her mouth to laugh but hesitated at the stream of thoughts coming from the guy. Instead of laughing she sat there, mouth hanging open and cheeks turning a strange shade of pink. Be cool, be cool. She went to take a drink and nearly spilled it all over herself. Thankfully, she managed to recover after a second, hoping that he hadn't noticed the utter embarrassment that had rendered her incapable of talking.
He laughed at the mini prank she had pulled, though she could only assume that he was laughing at the barista's antics. After all, he probably didn't know she was telepathic. If he had, then his rather detailed description about what he thought about her looks probably wouldn't have happened. Obviously she should have started with, 'hello, I'm a telepath'. That would've prevented so many embarrassing situations.
"All the more wonderful since everyone knows that's how I drink my coffee. You can bet that barista will never forget." She grinned and took another drink of her coffee. "It's like fuel for people. How anyone lives without coffee is beyond me. I wouldn't function…" She stared at him with wide eyes. "Even worse, I couldn't speak. And I really like speaking."
Setting her coffee down on the table she watched him with a slight grin. "You go to Silas, right?" Only way to find out was to ask… That or stalk him, and Ryder usually didn't lower herself to stalking.

As she rattled on about her coffee, he glanced down at his tea. 'You worthles piece of sh...' he thought. He set the cup down and pushed it away, hoping she wouldn't notice. "Yeah. Coffee is..." he trailed off, then made a fist and shook it righteously in the air. He had never really had coffee, but she wasn't the only person to talk of it as an elixir of life.
"... And I really like speaking." Cassel leaped at this opportunity for a flirt. "Well, you've got quite a pretty voice. I wouldn't mind hearing you speak more often," he said with a wink.
"You go to Silas, right?" she had asked. Cassel instantly released a sigh of relief. Good, someone from Silas. He grinned another bright smile and said, "Yeah! I guess you do, too, huh? " He glanced over at the nearest professor to them. "It's a wonderful place. The professors there are top-notch!" he said a bit louder, but sarcastically. 'Top-notch? Who the hell says top-notch anymore? Friggin' blue-haired oldies, for Christ's sake! Now she's gonna think I'm some nerdy loser.' Ashamed of himself, Cassel looked down at the table.

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? He shoved his own glass of tea away from him and she barely stifled a laugh. She swiped the cup, staring at it suspiciously, and looking at him over the rim. "Not a coffee guy, huh? Don't worry, you'll get hooked eventually. They all do." She set his cup back down with a smirk, laughing as he shook his fist in the air comically.
Ryder had already picked her own mug of coffee up when he complimented her voice. Her hand wavered, but then tipped as she jerked back when he winked at her. This time, she wasn't so lucky, and the coffee slopped against the sides of the mug and out onto her jeans. "Crud." She muttered, setting the mug down, trying to avoid eye contact with Cassel. This… this was not going well.
The sarcasm was a nice touch, and it allowed her to regain her composure with a smile. "Certainly. Everything about Silas is top-notch." She winked at him as she over-emphasized 'top-notch'. The professor sent them both a disgruntled glance and she smiled at him cheekily.
"You know, Cassel…" She mused, tapping her chin and acting thoughtful, "I don't know about you, but I could really go for some old time music right about now. Y'now, with singers rockin' that blue hair." Okay, she was definitely mocking him, but just a little bit.
She pushed up on the chair and stood, flipping through her iPod until she found an older Beatles song. Probably not old enough, but it was the oldest she had. Pressing play, she projected the song to everyone in the cafe. Their reactions made her laugh.
Grinning over at Cassel, she pointed at her iPod. "Top notch, wouldn't you say?"

As she made a remark involving "top-notch," Cassel's face turned red. Yep, she had definitely caught him on that. He couldn't help but laugh, though. 'Her little comments like that are kinda cute,' he thought. "Your little snarky comments are kinda cute," he said, another playful wink cast her way.
As she stood up, Cassel managed to get a full look at her, and boy was he amazed. 'Wow, she's got one heck of a body. And those legs! What gorgeous legs...' His thoughts on her body ventured into some more intimate regions of her before he cleared his mind of them completely.
"You know, Cassel… I don't know about you, but I could really go for some old time music right about now. Y'know, with singers rockin' that blue hair." Okay, that caught him. How had she known he was thinking that?
Cassel pushed himself up using the table. "All right. Enough of the funny business," he began, swinging a hand around for emphasis. "How the hell did you--" His hand collided with his still hot chai tea. The cup tipped in Ryder's direction, the hot liquids splashing in her direction. He was almost sure the tea would burn her if it made contact.
His mind rushed. He wouldn't be able to collect the tea and set the glass down. No. That would take too much time. What could he do, what could he do... Aha! "Look out!" he shouted.
Instantly, everything and everyone, including Ryder, froze in time. Cassel knew he would have to work quick on this. He pulled his jacket off of himself. It should be thick enough to guard her from the hot tea. He put the jacket on her, working carefully to not actually touch her and bring her into this frozen world with him. After zipping the jacket up, Cassel sat back down in his seat and tried his hardest to look normal. As time went back to normal, Cassel had one thought only. 'Dear God, please don't let her get hurt.

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? Oh dear god. She felt herself go completely red at his thoughts when she stood up. Sure she had heard some rather awkward things being a telepath, but it never ceased to shock her to silence. Desperately, she made another sarcastic comment and allowed the music to play. At her last comment he jumped to his feet and swung his hand out. It seemed he caught the fact that she'd known what he was thinking.
Her eyes widened with surprise as she watched his tea knock over and spill towards her. She tensed, ready to feel the scalding liquid against her bare skin. Flinching back away from the table, she stumbled and nearly fell, but still the heat didn't touch her. In fact, there was an altogether different feeling on her arms.
Stunned, Ryder stared down at the jacket that she had not been wearing two seconds ago. In fact, she was fairly certain Cassel had been wearing it. She blinked at him slowly, one thought streaming from his mind to hers. 'Dear God, please don't let her get hurt.' He'd done this. "Of course, the natural reaction is trying to save the poor damsel in distress from the killer tea. You sir, are a true hero."
She sat down, arms crossed, even though she was sure she looked comical with the oversized jacket practically swallowing her. Instead of speaking aloud, she projected her words into his mind. "I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you do go to Silas after all." The entire situation was beginning to seem funny and she chuckled. "So I guess I'll start. I'm a telepath, and you are?"

"Of course, the natural reaction is trying to save the poor damsel in distress from the killer tea. You sir, are a true hero." Cassel couldn't help but smile at that. "Well, I couldn't just stand there and watch you burn," he said, a small smile breaking its way across his face. "Besides, you're hot, but not in that sense," and with that, an all-out grin made its way to the scene.
After a few seconds, he cleared his throat. "Please, tell me if my flirting makes you feel uncomfortable. I'd hate to make you feel that way."
"I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you do go to Silas after all. So I guess I'll start. I'm a telepath, and you are?" This caught Cassel off guard. A telepath? That would mean she had heard... Cassel instantly turned a bright red. She probably thought he was some pig now. 'I'm incredibly sorry. I would never have thought you were telepathic. Please don't think badly of me. All that aside, though, I have the ability to manipulate time. Not for long, though, or else I'll pay some sort of consequence for it.' As if on cue, his nose started bleeding and he got a headache. He squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed his temples, completely unaware of the nosebleed.

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? "Hot?" She stared at him blankly. The thought had never really occurred to her that someone would think that. Of course, she'd be listening to him think that in more certain terms since she'd sat down. He was awfully descriptive about her appearance. "Well, I'd hate to burn, in any sense." She retorted jokingly.
If there was one thing she could appreciate, it was cutting to the chase. Cassel seemed to have no trouble speaking his mind. Although every time he did she got just a little bit more nervous. "Ah yes, well… The whole flirting thing… Well…" She shifted nervously. "I've never been good at the whole… thing." She waved her hands uselessly int he air. Truth be told, she'd never dated in her life, so it was pretty much uncharted territory for Ryder. "I'm not familiar with the concept, I guess you could say."
His reaction to her ability made her laugh. But a time manipulator, that was cool. "A shame you can't turn back time a little, maybe then you wouldn't be going so red." She grinned at him, but her smile faltered when she saw the blood. Your nose…" She trailed off hesitantly. He seemed out of it, with his eyes shut and hands on his head. Did his powers hurt him that much? Pain radiated from his thoughts and she flinched back away from him, trying to block it out.
She stood up, still encased in his large jacket. Pushing back the sleeves, she grabbed a tissue from the table and reached cautiously towards him. "You're bleeding." Ryder wasn't comfortable touching people, or letting them in her personal bubble, but she hated to see anyone hurt. With her free hand, she lightly pulled his hands back from his temples, putting the tissue over the trail of blood, before it could get on his lips. "I hope it wasn't my hotness that burned you." She joked.

Cassel flinched when she first touched his nose. His headache started to die down now. As his pain subsided, he let her continue dabbing at his blood. "Y'know, I could use you around more often," he said teasingly.
"Ah yes, well… The whole flirting thing… Well… I've never been good at the whole… thing. I'm not familiar with the concept, I guess you could say." At a point where he figured she was done, he grabbed her hand by the fingers and kissed her hand lightly. "Not familiar with the concept? You're doing well at it, anyway. Mocking me, teasing me, those are forms of flirting. All guys love that. But, Miss Ryder, you wanna know something?" He made eye contact now, smiling again and still holding her hand. "Not a lot of girls take care of a guy when he's hurt. What you just did means a lot." He squeezed her hand before letting go.
"A shame you can't turn back time a little, maybe then you wouldn't be going so red." Cassel chuckled at that. "Yeah, well, shut up. I wasn't that blessed."
He took another napkin and wiped up the mess of tea on the table. Not wanting to be loud, and now knowing she was a telepath, Cassel made his next statement through thought. 'By the way, you look cute in that jacket. Where'd you get it?'

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? "Yeah well, get in line. My services are highly sought after." She finished getting the blood off his face and went to sit back on her heels, but froze when he grasped her hand lightly and kissed it. Heat spread at the point of contact and she stared at him silently. "Teasing is flirting? I guess I didn't get the memo." She murmured absentmindedly.
It surprised her that when Cassel let go of her hand, she was disappointed. Usually she'd be fighting to get away from a guy who was overly touchy. The hand kissing and holding, it was strangely nice. "I try." she shrugged and let her hands fall down to her side as she stood up and stepped away from him.
She clicked her tongue at him disapprovingly. "You really shouldn't tell a lady to shut up. Most people consider that rude." Again she grinned at him, but his next question threw her off. The jacket… Her cheeks went red again and she slipped out of jacket and handed it to him. "Oh you know, it just showed up. But if you like it so much, I'd be willing to part with it for a price." Her grin widened. "What's it worth to ya?"

He grinned. 'She's a real cutie,' he thought. He could care less if she heard his thoughts now.
"Teasing is flirting? I guess I didn't get the memo." Cassel, again, smiled. "Well, it starts in elementary school when a boy or girl makes fun of you, and you cry about it to your parents. The parental answer to that is always 'Well that just means they like you.' So now, we all think teasing and mocking is flirting. You're actually cute when you do it, though," he said, smirking.
"Oh you know, it just showed up. But if you like it so much, I'd be willing to part with it for a price. What's it worth to ya?" Cassel was a little saddened when she took the jacket off. She looked really cute in it. He took the jacket from her and walked back over to her. "Hmm, how about you keep it and wear it," he began, putting the open jacket around her shoulders. "And then one little kiss," he said. With that comment, he came around, tilted her head up a bit, and leaned in. He kissed the very left corner of her mouth, almost on her cheek. When he pulled back, he couldn't help but smile. "If you were expecting me to completely kiss you, that would draw all the fun away from the relationship, wouldn't it?"

DANCE HARD LAUGH MORE TURN THE MUSIC UP NOW( party like a rock star ! )C A N I G E T A W H A T N O W ? "Sheesh, do you comment this much about how every girl looks?" Ryder asked. She wasn't trying to be abrupt, but she'd never gotten this many comments… or thoughts rather, about how she looked. Most guys thought it once or twice and moved on. But he seemed pretty adamant on continuing with it.
"Ah yes, the age old lie that if a boy hits you, he actually likes you." She shook her head with a sigh. "I was never really the type to go crying to my parents. He hit me, I hit him. That's kind of how it works for me." In fact, that was how it always seemed to work. A guy did something, she hit him. Funny how she'd never really noticed that. No wonder people thought she was violent… She glanced around the cafe, careful to ignore the comment that followed his statement. If he called her cute one more time… Ryder wasn't sure she could handle it.
Forcing herself to stand her ground and not back away when he stepped toward her, she tilted her head to the side. Eyes narrowed as she watched him suspiciously get closer, she crossed her arms, noticing the absence of the warm jacket. "Keep it?" Why would she keep it?The jacket was obviously his. Kiss? "Wait, so I have to pay you, to keep your jacket. That wasn't what I mea-" She stopped talking mid sentence as he tilted her head back and pressed a light kiss on the corner of her mouth. "Fun… Relationship?" The words weren't processing, not with his hand still on her chin.
Her control over her power slipped and the surrounding thoughts of everyone in the cafe crashed against her mind. The sudden onslaught yanked her out of the kiss induced haze. She uncrossed her arms and pushed him back. "You just…" She stumbled back, the jacket slipping off her shoulders and falling to the floor. It hit the floor and she stared at it for a moment, before looking back at him, her eyes going hard. "Gosh dangit man, you can't just go kissing a girl you just met. It's not normal. It's not… it's not right."
With shaking hands she shoved her earbuds back into her ears, spun on her heel and stalked out of the cafe door. Did it count as her first kiss if it wasn't completely on her lips?

Cassel instantly knew he had done something wrong. He turned and pointed at the barista. "You! Watch my laptop!" The barista nodded, and Cassel picked up the jacket and ran out in search of Ryder.
Outside, the streets were packed full of pedestrians. Cassel groaned. "How am I going to find her now?" he shouted out. Passerby turned and stared at him. Thousands of thoughts ran through his mind as he tried to develop a plan to find this girl.
He started questioning people on her whereabouts. No one had seen her. Cassel stressed more and more, feeling his heart rate increase. If only there was some way that he could just freeze time and find her that way. He sighed. "RYDER," he cried out.
After calling her name a few times, realization struck him. He did have the ability to freeze time. What was he thinking? He took a few deep breaths in preparation for the consequences that would come. Everyone around him froze. "Now, where would you be...?" he said aloud.
The crowds were too thick. There was no way he would be able to find her. He thought back on every detail about this girl. What would stand out? He started running down every street he thought she would possibly be on.
His head started pounding. He was overstaying his welcome in this frozen world. He wasn't ready yet, though. He shook his head and kept running.
Still, there was no sign of her. "How did she get so far away so fast?" he said. In all honesty, this is incredibly confusing. How did she get away so fast?
His headache was almost unbearable now. His vision was blurring constantly. He could feel the blood running down his face. He still kept running.
He could barely see anything anymore. He was on the verge of passing out. Cassel was about to give up when WHAM! The two rolled across the ground for a second before stopping. Ryder was on top, and Cassel was on bottom.
In agony, Cassel shook his head, trying to get some form of vision back. He finally managed to gather some sort of sense, and Ryder's blurry face came into clear focus. Cassel smiled and put his hands on both sides of her face. "Look, I know I probably messed up by kissing you without actually kissing you on the lips. I know you probably hate me, or think I'm a creep, or whatever. I know you're wondering why face is all bloody. It's a long story. Ryder, I chased you down. I wanted you to know that I'm sorry for my mistake. I shouldn't have done that. You're just really cute, and I'm just really weird. I'm sorry. We were just having a really good time in that cafe, and my mind thought it was the right thing to do. Look, Ryder, you gotta understand. I'm dumb. So please, please, PLEASE don't hate me or hold this over me. Please?"
