in a hellcat spangled cavern when your judgement's on the run
LIKE STARLIGHT CRASHING THROUGH THE ROOM WE'LL LOSE OUR FEATHERS YES I KNOW IT HURTS AT FIRST BUT IT GETS BETTER
the humidity was sweltering. hot summer sweat stuck her clothes to her skin. the sun beat down on the walls of her room, and the little pocket battery fan she was using to keep cool was as useful as an appendix, only at least the fan wouldn't get inflamed and have to get operated on. the young girl sighed, holding the back of her hand to her head to try and wipe the sweat away.
she had been in her room for days, only leaving to eat, drink, expel unwanted bodily - ah, we'll leave that one out - and go to lessons. andie had never really been one to sulk, but ever since she got here she had wanted to go home. she was scared of basically everyone, who supposedly had 'gifts' as well. she didn't know if they were dangerous, nice, fun or beastly. all she knew is that she wanted out. still, slowly yet surely, she had been getting over herself. she was stuck here, that was that. as long as she had this power - a shiver ran down her spine - she had to stay here. and maybe... maybe it could be fun? she nearly gagged at the idea. fun was barely an option at this hellhole. still, it wouldn't hurt to try.
with a groan of frustration, she lifted herself up out of her bed and removed her sticky pyjamas and put fresh clothes on. she washed her face, even put on make up, an effort of which she had neglected for a few weeks now, and left the room. she felt a bit better already, it was cooler outside of the hotbox which was her room.
leaving the building, a wave of fresh air washed over her, and she closed her eyes to enjoy it for a moment. okay, so maybe this wasn't too bad. and the grounds were pretty nice, better than her old school which was painted with graffiti and what the students called 'contemporary art' which was basically phalluses and other interesting body parts scrawled across every desk and chair. the young girl remembered eavesdropping in on a conversation in class about a popular yet quaint spot was the gardens, so she decided to try her luck.
thought the twists and turns confused her and may have made her get a bit lost, andie finally arrived at today's destination. slaps of different scents scraped across her face - there were roses, lavender, magnolias, and...? a dozen different scents matching even more flowers was dizzying to her. she grinned, sitting on a nearby old wooden bench with hearts and initials engraved into it and took it all in. looking around to see if anyone was watching, she quickly plucked a nearby sprig of lavender and held it under her nose. she sighed - yeah, it was about time she stopped being so negative.

“How should I know what kind it was?” Jackie spoke in an annoyed tone with a roll of eyes. Sometimes they just asked the stupidest questions. “I just know that it stinks like ass and that she’ll be washing her sheets for weeks,” she said with a smirk tugging at her lips. The voice that spoke could only be heard by Jackie, and the owner of said voice could only be seen by her as well. “But why would you do something like that? And over a box of cookies?” Jenkins’s old voice sounded appalled that Jackie would stuff a wheel of smelly cheese in her roommate’s bed, but the ghost had a marshmallow for a heart and was always disapproving of the girl’s every action. But to Jackie, her retribution was well warranted. “She had it coming, and she stole my OREOS. Apparently you don’t know what those are since you were already rotting in the ground by the time they came out.”
As much as the medium wanted to be at the dorm to see her roommate’s reaction, the stench of the cheese had permeated into their shared space and even into her own room, forcing her to flee. Although Jackie tended to avoid the garden area, since it seemed to attract masses of students on days like this, she thought a quick walk amongst the flowers would serve to “clean” the stench of cheese from her nose. Much to Jackie’s disappointment, she happened to stumble across the (annoyingly) friendly ghost near the rhododendrons and has since been stuck with Jenkins at her heels. The old man was like a second shadow of hers, except he was a shadow with an irritating habit of appearing at inappropriate times and speaking to her as if he were her grandfather.
When Jackie turned at a corner of rose bushes, she let out a huge sigh when she saw someone sitting on the bench she was heading to. The medium stood and contemplated for a few seconds and decided that it would most definitely be worth it to annoy the girl away from the bench. Suddenly, her eyes danced with excitement and took on a wicked shine as she casually strolled over to the bench and plopped down right next to the tall girl. Immediately, the smirk on her face disappeared and her expression was one of pure disgust and revulsion. Jackie shifted and leaned away from the girl and looked to where Jenkins stood a few feet away. “Do you smell that Jenkins? It smells like she’s been living right between Satan’s butt cheeks!”
To the tall girl sitting beside her, Jackie must have seemed like a downright lunatic that spoke poorly of strangers to nonexistent beings. Quite often would this tactic succeed in scaring people away, but there were the occasional few that needed a little more “motivation.” Jenkins just stood there, shaking his head at the spiteful medium who loved nothing more than making everyone else’s lives miserable. “Why Jackie?”
