The Vermont air was unusually warm today. An early spring was causing plants to bloom and blossom. Trees were gaining back the green leaves they shed during the fall. It was the perfect kind of day to play outside! Or rather, get dirty outside. Yesterday had brought a vicious rain storm through. The ground was soaked with puddles of water. Slippery mud lay in waiting for rambunctious students to pass by tripping them up and sending them sliding. Grinning lightly, Blitz readjusted the biker helmet in his grip as he head to Silas’ garage being careful not to fall. He had convinced some kid named David to let him ride his ATV for the whole day with the promise of 20 bucks. The stupid kid made him agree to bring the four-wheeler back with a full tank of gas, too. It was well worth the hassle, in Blitz’s opinion! Still a young man by age’s terms, Blitz loved fast things and getting down and dirty. What could be better than riding an ATV through puddles and puddles of endless mud on a day like today?!
Arriving at the garage had Blitz looking around for the machine. The kid said it was a blue one. That was pretty much his only description. Sighing the spiky haired guy peered at the line of four-wheelers. There weren’t many, to be honest. Silas was peculiar about what students could and could not bring. There were papers to fill out and permission to be granted. That was the true hassle. So, Blitz had elected to bribing some kid to borrow whatever he needed when the need for speed bit him. Red, red, yellow, red, green, black, blue! The blue ATV stuck out like a sore thumb among the other colors. It looked brand new to boot! Did this kid never use it?
Blitz shook his head, shoved the helmet on his head, and hoped onto the machine. He stuck the key into the slot and turned on the ATV listening to that beautiful purr. With the thing still in neutral, he pressed the gas button forward revving the engine which echoed in the garage space. “Oh yeah baby!” he cried and set the thing in first gear gaining speed quickly until he flew out of the garage heading straight for that huge pile of mud that lay not too far from the garage. It was a spot where water tended to puddle up due to the bowl like dent in the earth. By now a lot of the water was already dried by the sun leaving plenty of fuel to quench Blitz’s thirst for dirt.
“WHOOOOHOOOO!” he exclaimed putting the four-wheeler in fifth gear. The puddle was already in sight. Nothing stood in his way between him and a fun time. Wait… what was that? “OHSHIT!” Blitz yelped and jerked quickly to the left sending the four-wheeler on two wheels. For a couple of seconds Blitz rode on the left two wheels until the ATV flipped over onto its side taking Blitz down with it. The former Army private had narrowly missed hitting some random girl that he had completely missed in his initial excitement to finally go mud bogging. Day. Ruined.

i need a n o t h e r story something to get off my c h e s t • • • • • Lynnie had just needed a few minutes of freedom at first. The dorm building was too loud, and there were so many people...she couldn't adjust. Not that quickly. Everything about this school was so different from what she was used to. People here seemed to actually like her. She'd even had full conversations with a couple people that didn't end up with screaming or with anyone getting hit. A lot of it she really, really liked, but...
Quiet. She just needed a little quiet.
But there were no places in this entire, gigantic school that did not have somebody making lots of noise. Lynnie could vouch for it, too, because she was pretty sure she had tried every unlocked door in the building. Meaning she had been driven into the open air to continue her search. She just had to hope and pray she could find somewhere.
She figured her best bet was probably not going to be the stables or the lake - it was much warmer than normal - and she wasn't terribly interested in hiding in the garage... Which meant she was left with the woods. She could do that; she liked the woods. Which is what led to Lynnie hurrying across the yard, head bent and hands crammed into the pockets of her thin jacket as she prayed no one noticed her.
If she hadn't been so focused not being seen, Lynnie might have noticed the low grumble that was growing steadily louder. It wasn't until a man's voice whooped from somewhere nearby that she jerked her head up. And screamed. It was all she had time for before the ATV was whizzing past her on two wheels. Almost as soon as it had passed, the whole vehicle turned over and Lynnie was staring at the maze-like underside.
"Oh my..." He - she had seen a flash of a man in the driver seat - was going to kill her. If he wasn't dead already... She had probably killed him! The headmistress was going to find out, and the she was going to expel Lynnie and send her home! Her first reaction was to run and hide somewhere, but she couldn't bring herself to just abandon the maybe-dead guy. She hurried to the front of the ATV and peer around the end. "Are you okay? I'm so sorry, I..." She couldn't find a good excuse and instead let her quiet voice trail off.

Stunned. Blitz was temporarily paralyzed as his side laid against the wet grass. The grip on the ATV’s handlebars loosened until Blitz pulled them away groaning from the effort of moving. “The … hell…” Grunting, the man pulled himself out from under the machine dazed. There was a sound nearby. It was someone talking. Brown eyes turned to observe Lynnie, but it was clear Blitz didn’t actually “see” her. The helmet soon came off and was set down upon the ground. A hand rubbed through the guy’s somewhat spikey hair. Well, the four-wheeler seemed to be in good enough shape. There weren’t any serious problems from what he could see. It sure would need a good cleaning before he took it back to the garage, though. Wait. It would have needed one anyhow.
Chuckling to himself, Blitz shook his head and went to the other side of the machine to pull it back onto all fours. “Man, what just happened…” Suddenly, Blitz’s head snapped up to stare at the smaller girl. “Holy Toledo! I’m so sorry! I didn’t even see you. Crap!” Hitting the meat of his palm against his forehead the guy sighed heavily looking incredible upset. “Are you ok? I didn’t hurt you did I?” Frowning, the guy stepped around to the other side of the ATV where the young girl stood. His eyes glanced her over once, then twice. There seemed to be no signs of injuries. Sighing in relief, Blitz let his shoulders sink.
“Geez, I’m really sorry, kid. I didn’t mean to almost kill you. Heck, I didn’t even see you until you were right there.” Rubbing the back of his neck, Blitz couldn’t help but wonder if those were exactly the right words to be using right now. Hopefully this girl wasn’t some little twerp who was going to run to the Headmistress or nearest professor to tattle tell on him. That was all he needed, to get kicked out of Silas because he almost killed some girl. Blitz grumbled to himself while picking up the helmet and setting it on the seat of the ATV. Swinging his leg over, he stood up on the thing and started it up. At first it choked and sputtered, but then caught on and was good to go. Another relief. Somehow Blitz imagined the $20 he paid the kid earlier wouldn’t cover any damages.
“So, ugh, what are you doing out here anyhow? This is kind of a random place to just be walking around.” Since the ATV was capable of turning on and Blitz was curious about the girl, he shut the thing back off so neither of them would have to yell over the roar of the engine. Besides it should prove to be a short conversation, right? Then he could be merrily on his way back into the deep pit of mud and ooey gooey goodness. Albeit, he’d probably be a little more careful this time around. Just in case some kid was lurking in the mud only to pop out and become ATV mud-kill.

i need a n o t h e r story something to get off my c h e s t • • • • • From her new vantage point at the head of the machine, Lynnie could see the way the ATV had landed on the guy. He was sprawled out on his side, and he wasn't moving. She had killed him! Panic had just swept through her when he moved, the sightless visor of his helmet swinging around to look at her and freezing her in place. A moment later, the whole thing came off, and she was distracted by the handsome, older face beneath. It wasn't until the man rounded the ATV out of sight that she realized he hadn't answered her - hadn't even seemed to notice her. She chewed her lip and started backing away slowly, debating running away once more.
The big machine thumped back onto all four wheels, and Lynnie watched the man check it over. Well...he seemed alive, and even conscious! So maybe she could just...disappear... The man's head snapped around to look at her, and she froze, her eyes going wide. Oh no. He didn't seem angry, though, and she was surprised when he apologized, and then asked if she'd been hurt. "I'm alright." Please don't look at me...don't notice me... Lynnie tried to smile, twisting her hands nervously as the man apologized again, rubbing the back of his neck as he did. "I'm fine; really. I'm sorry I made your bike thing fall over. I can-"
What? Fix it? She wasn't even sure what it was called. Pay for it? That almost made her laugh. "I'll try to help if it's broken." Yeah, right. Maybe that would be enough to keep him from making him too angry at her. Lynnie chewed her lip nervously as the man climbed back on the machine and turned it on. It growled and grumbled, and then settled into a normal (even, anyway) thrum. The man looked relieved, and then turned the thing back off, and turned once more to her. This was weird. She wasn't used to people talking to her on purpose, and she really wasn't used to one-on-one talking with people. It would be awful rude to just ignore his question. Besides, what if he was like her mama and went crazy? "Oh, I was just..." What the heck? "I'm new to Silas, and I'm not used to being around so many people, so I thought I'd go...um...into the woods." There, that was probably enough information to be true, but little enough to not have to talk much more. No, wait...she was supposed to be opening up and meeting people at this school. It would take practice, though... Lynnie resisted the urge to groan, and nodded at Blitz instead. "What about you? Where were you headed?"[/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • • • my life gets k i n d a boring need something that i can c o n f e s s words || 480ish tag || Blitz outfit || click lyrics || "Secrets" by OneRepublic credit || i.forgive.you @ CAUTION 2.0 notes ||
