The wind lazily brushed through the flowers and leaves of the Courtyard. A young couple walked through arm in arm followed by a trio of rambunctious first years who ran through on their way to brave the Labyrinth. Serinity watched all of this from the second floor window with her hands clasped behind her back. Her vision was then obscured by a fallen blonde lock. Sighing, Serinity tucked it away and turned to look down at the white German shepherd beside her. Hewie’s gaze was focused intently on a cat prowling around down below.
Blue grey eyes turned once more to the scene below. People continued to walk by. Light from the sun shifted around casting shadows. Nearby, a grandfather clock hidden within its cubby hole chimed. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Noon. It’s noon. “Why am I up at noon?” Shaking her head the blonde gave a small smile and turned away from the window continuing down the hall with her hands behind her back. It was a similar walk to that of her grandmother. If Serinity knew how alike the two were, she would have gone far out of her way to change that. The young woman wanted to be nothing like her grandmother. Too bad it was hard not to become the person who raised you.
What was she going to do now? Her next class wasn’t until late in the afternoon and there wasn’t any homework to do. Since she had lived here for so long, Rini knew of every nook and cranny that existed within the boundaries of Silas Academy. Exploring was out. Horseback riding? No, she did that yesterday. Lunch was being served. She could go to the cafeteria and eat. Nah, that would require socialization and that was something Rini wasn’t feeling today. Giving an irritated huff, the blonde stalked down the corridor and came to an abrupt stop in front of the music classroom. Her eyes scanned the room taking in the instruments strewn about.
“What’d you say, Hewie? Want to play some music?” The shepherd looked up into Rini’s eyes for a moment then snorted reluctantly. Was he saying she couldn’t play well? “You can leave if you want to,” she snapped angrily. The dog pinned his ears back and sauntered into the room. Rini followed behind him moments later searching the room for an instrument to play. “Aaah, here we go!” Picking up an acoustic guitar the girl strummed her fingers across the chords.
Smiling, Serinity sat down on the roomy windowsill propping her right foot against the wall. Strumming through the wires again Rini leaned her head back thinking up a song to play. Only one came to mind. It was a song Serinity learned to play on any instrument she could get her hands on. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. It was her of all-time favorite song despite being a Classical song. She never knew why she loved it so much, but her grandmother had mentioned that her mom loved to listen to the song too. Maybe that was why. As her fingers moved over the strings, the beautiful song wavered through the empty classroom space and out into the hall. Anyone passing by would hear. A reflective expression overcame the girl as she continued to play the almost haunting melody. Hewie circled around in a spot next to Rini and was almost instantly asleep lulled into slumber by the song.

. so i go insane like i always do AND I CALL YOUR NAME, SHES A LOT LIKE YOU
The Music Room never seems to be a particularly popular place at Silas Academy. Of course, there was always the random music lover, but very few actively sought out a place to play. Most opted for their dorm rooms, or somewhere less… official. That was exactly the reason Seth had chosen to go to the classroom. It was quiet and secluded and he was very unlikely to be interrupted. His fingers lightly trailed on the instruments, taking his time as he walked around the room. Peaceful. Yes, that's what he was feeling. He felt peaceful. It was odd and almost uncomfortable for Seth, he shifted on his feet, to turn to leave, but he couldn't. Couldn't bring himself to walk away from this sincere moment where he didn't hurt, didn't need, didn't want.
Callie. The name brought a smile to his lips. She always did like music. She said it was pure, a note hanging in the air. It could be anything to anyone and mean so much. One song could change a person's life. Change was an elusive thing for a boy stuck in childhood habits. He strummed a guitar and listened to the reverberating sound that sucked him even deeper into his reverie. A trip down memory lane was something he always tried to avoid. He couldn't bring himself to draw away from the memories now though, not when they were so vivid and clear, so bright and happy. She smiled at him, her blood hair flying back in the breeze and those bright eyes so full of laughter. It seemed like she was always happy back then, and always willing to pull him out of his bad moods.
The sound of the guitar faded and he snapped back to reality. Back to what was and not what might have been. It didn't matter that she had used to be his best friend years ago. It'd been so long since he'd known her, or even seen her. She'd left him alone, to deal with his new powers, and now… she was the reason he'd become this. But what did it matter, he was who he was. The thought lingered though, that Callie would be ashamed of what he had become. She'd always hated guys who picked fights, who were jerks just for the sake of attention. He was everything she'd always hated. He drew his hand away from the instruments. Fine then. Good. If they ever met up again, he wanted her to hate him just as much as he hated her.
Footsteps in the hallway made him draw back, hiding from plain view. Just what he needed, a fight to take his mind off of things better left in the past. A vicious grin pulled at his lips. The person was talking but he couldn't make out what was being said, till the door opened and she walked in. Oh, it just got so much better. He wanted a fight and now it was guaranteed. Serinity Dawson, since their first class together, fencing, he hadn't liked her at all. It was almost instinctual and he wasn't entirely sure what made him dislike her so much, but for right now, who the heck cared why he didn't like her? This was going to be fun.
"It was shocking enough that you could play the guitar, but really, trying to bring back the classics? They aren't popular anymore for a reason." He stepped forward, hands in his pockets and mouth quirked in the standard smirk. "Although I have to clarify, when I said play the guitar, I meant it in the loosest way possible." He glanced down at her dog, not at all nervous that she had some manner of backup. Dogs never did scare him. "I bet your friend here could do better than that. Maybe it's time to give up on music? I'm sure you have other talents…" He shrugged. "Although that's doubtful."

The peace engulfed the blonde as she sat on the windowsill strumming away at the chords. Another sound wavered into her ears instantly shattering that peace. Serinity gasped spinning her head toward the speaker blonde hair swooping into her face partially obscuring her vision. The last note she had played quivered in their air before dying out leaving the two students locked in a silent staring contest. The words Seth had spoken registered in her mind. Serinity hesitantly stood up a fierce grimace planted firmly upon her lips. At the moment she was in disbelief that he was even here. As the younger male continued, Serinity’s shock turned into anger.
“What could you possibly want Seth,” Serinity snapped frustration plainly igniting her face. A crackle of electricity buzzed in the air hanging there until it disappeared. She didn’t quite appreciate being snuck up on. Quickly, the blonde eyed Seth’s position before looking at the door. Guessing that he had been in the room before she had, the girl gave a look of irritation. Not only had her moment of tranquility been demolished into a thousand burning pieces of ash, but she had also disturbed the hornet’s nest just by picking this exact room. Great. Exactly how she wanted this day to go.
Glaring back at the guy, blue eyes went icy cold. “Should have just left me alone; but, of course, you’re not in the habit of doing that, are you?” Bristling with mounting fury the girl attempted to calm her anger before the already bad situation turned worse. Seth’s words on Serinity’s choice of music let alone playing ability added fuel onto the burning pile, but that was exactly what he wanted. Seth was goading Rini. He was trying to get her upset. There was no way she could fall into his trap. “You know, you’re one to talk. As far as I’m concerned the only talent you have, other than showing up at the most inopportune moment, is being a nuisance. I mean really, Seth. You weren’t even that good at Fencing. What kind of guy are you to let a girl like me beat you? Hmm?” Ok, so maybe she could fall for the trap a little bit.
She was dancing on the edge and she knew it. Grinning with satisfaction, the blonde placed the guitar back into its holder and crossed her arms over her chest. It was a somewhat low blow but she knew full well that Seth was capable of hitting lower. That would be all he needed to do. Serinity could only misplace her anger for so long before it became too overwhelming. Then what? She’d explode? With Seth, who knew what would happen. Silas Academy had seen its fair share of unpredictable characters and Seth was in the upper ranks along with herself. Although, on a side note, Lillian did have Rini pegged well enough being her grandmother and all.
Continuing without pausing for long, Serinity took a step closer eyes glimmering in the light. “Let me guess. Someone called you a bad name earlier and you came up here to cry, huh? Awww, poor wittle Sethie poo. Dat’s so saaad. And now you’re making fun of me to make your own self feel better. You’re pathetic.” Her expressions started out as mocking but soon turned to a cold, hardened dislike. Why had Seth and Serinity started off on such a bad note? Who was a fault for making the first mistake that led to the two acting like middle schoolers when around each other? Beside her, Hewie sat at attention observing the two but made no motions of aggression. While the dog did pick up on his companion’s anger, Hewie wasn’t one to rush into battle for no reason.
