Brief Summary:
Jack has always had a way with words and with people, particularly with those of the opposite sex. Ever since he was just a little boy he had a natural talent for getting what he wanted from the people he wanted it. One of his 'aunts' coined the term silver tongue just for him. As he grew, this natural ability only became more refined. Since his older brother, James, was the one in charge of the family business--or would be when their dad decided it was time--Jack was able to shirk basically any responsible thrown his way. As a result, not only was he charming and a shameless flirt, but he was the kind of guy that everyone wanted at their party because of his cheerful attitude, sense of humor, and even for his loud mouth... despite the fact he could be over the top or flirt with your girlfriend.
In those things that Jack wants he considers himself outgoing. He's the king of one night stands because none of them ever mean anything to him. It has something to do with the responsibility that comes with being in a serious relationship with anyone. Especially after he accidentally got a girl pregnant and went through that entire ordeal, he makes certain that his flings mean nothing and that they're perfectly safe. But in spite of Jack's blatant disregard for responsibility--which stems from his fear of failing--he just seems to have this way of brightening up the atmosphere around him whether he's truly in a good mood or he's just the world's best actor.
Additionally, Jack's always been fairly selfish with an attitude of "what's in it for me?" although he may or may not share that with you outright. He may view what he gets out of something or someone entirely different than someone else might, but he does typically have that mindset for almost everything he does. He charms people because they give him what he wants and he doesn't have to deal with their disliking him. He flirts with women--often buying them expensive gifts or doing extravagant things--to get the obvious out of them. One of the results of Jack's manipulative nature is his impressive observation skills and intuition. He's actually incredibly smart, but tends to mask that by being frivolous and joking. He is so good at manipulating others because he is so good at on-the-spot observations of which he's normally correct.
... He's searching so hard for his brother now because without James, Jack will have to take over the family business and he knows he'll fail and ruin everything. James was always the good little mobster honcho, not Jack. Not to mention he actually loves his brother. He hasn't actually realized this yet, but he does surprisingly well with responsibility when it's something he really, really, really wants.
Power Description »Dream manipulation may not seem like a very useful ability, but it's quite the contrary. It all depends on your imagination. Jack may have to be within a few miles to outright manipulate someone's dreams, but his range is much, much larger when he's only observing. Dream walking, as it's typically been called. One may argue how that can possibly do anyone any harm, but imagine the kinds of things you can learn from another's dreams. Dreams are usually hard to interpret and all over the place, but their subjects come from subconscious thought. Such thought can be manipulated to further show--in dreams--the nature, aspirations, and/or true memories of a person. It takes skill and finesse... and someone who's been toying with other peoples' dreams in such a way since he was five. Enter Jack. Now imagine the kinds of nightmares he could inflict upon you if he wanted. Such nightmares that would shock you awake in the middle of the night. Nightmares that would stay with you, making it almost impossible to go back to sleep. Imagine night after night of such dreams. Imagine the kind of damage that could cause. Now imagine what he could do with someone at his side that can boost mutant abilities. Yeah, I might be scared to sleep, too.
History »
Italy is a beautiful country, and Lucca is a smaller city--comparatively speaking, of course--about an hour outside Florence. Little Jack was born two months prematurely when his parents were visiting family in Lucca. As a result, the couple and their oldest boy--who was eight at the time--were forced to remain in Italy for several weeks as first baby Jack was held in the ICU and as his mother healed from the difficult birth.
Two months later, the happy family were on their way back to their home in New York. This happy family had a secret. Some might say a dark secret. The head of the family, Alessandro Fascino, was high up in the ranks of the Italian Mafia that corrupted New York City. They were wealthy, connected, and head deep in illegal activity. But blood is thicker than water and you protect your own no matter the cost. At least, that was how it was supposed to be. Fortunately or unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world.
Jack grew up as the younger, spoiled brother. It was his older brother, James, that made their father proud when it came to leading and carrying out orders and operations within their faction of the mafia. Jack was the son that slept through classes because he was bored, charmed those around him with his personality and money, and gambled many of his nights away before spending the rest of them with some gorgeous woman or another. Intellectually speaking, Jack is highly intelligent, but many overlook that aspect because of the way he acts.
Despite the vast differences in personalities and life goals, the two brothers were always close. James would beat on any bullies that picked on him or his younger brother, and Jack would typically talk his way out of trouble. Jack has a fear of failure, but there has been several times his input--usually given flippantly--has meant the success for many an operation. Both his father and older brother recognized his potential and attempted to convince him of it countless times, but Jack has refused to see it and was always intent on living life the way he saw fit.
Remember how we don't live in a perfect world? Well, Jack has an uncle, Alerto, who was always jealous of his own older brother which was Jack's father. Nobody could prove it, but Jack's intuition warned him on occasion that there was something dark in his uncle. Not a normal person's definition of dark. For that definition would include every member of the mafia for the things they did rarely involved rainbows and sunshine. No, this kind of dark had everything to do with family. In the Fascino family, blood was more important than anything, but Alerto allowed his jealousy to overwhelm him. When Jack was 27, his father died of a seemingly natural heart attack. However, Jack had his doubts, but he could never prove that his uncle had anything to do with his father's death.
In fact, it took two whole years of convincing James of even the possibility that Alerto had anything to do with it, but he soon won his older brother to his side. Only one problem, James always liked to use his brawn more than his brains which led to him being promoted to the top of Alerto's hit list. It wasn't till a year later that James suddenly disappeared one day. As if overnight, Alerto was suddenly in charge of the Fascino family business. The instant Jack discovered his brother was missing, he did his best to find his brother via his dreams. For the first week, he was certain his brother must be dead because he couldn't find James' dreams, but the few that remained loyal to Jack in the face of Alerto's takeover found evidence that James' might be alive. In all the time he searched for his brother, he never stopped trying to find James via his dreams. For one reason or another, he never did... until one night, early in the morning, while Jack had a beautiful blonde in his arms, he stumbled upon a nightmare that had a familiar feel. It was James' nightmare.
In the space of what felt like a few minutes in the dream--but what was actually a whole hour in real time--Jack was only able to learn a name. He followed that name to learn another, and that to learn another, until it finally led him to the one name that he needed the most. Clyde Schneider. It was only a matter of time before Jack was able to wiggle his way into Schneider's ranks of mutant trafficking under a fake alias of Jack Green. The small rings still loyal to him in the mafia--and who want James to come back--have made it possible. He has his reasons for searching for his brother this way, and it's been three months since joining Schneider's goons. But these things take time... and he hates how slow he has to move.
But he will find his brother.
