Brief Summary:
Seth has always been a wild-card at best. He's unpredictable, living in the moment and never thinking of consequences, always looking to the next best thing. Dedication and loyalty are abstract ideas that he disregards without a second of thought. He doesn't go out of his way to hurt people, but he's always more concerned about how he feels, rather than considering how his actions affect the people around him. He goes to the edge, hanging just above for the thrill, to have the feeling of being utterly alive. Without the rush of adrenaline, Seth rarely feels anything. His life has beat emotion out of him, so he goes from one adrenaline high to the other, searching for something to make him feeling something, anything.
Power, attention and control, that's all Seth ever wants. He thrives, lives for power coursing through his veins, to have control over his life, to show others that he's the best of the best. With his past, with everything he was forced to go through, with everything spinning out of control, he uses that as his reasoning for the extent that he will go to have a say in the direction of his life. He says he loves being special, but he's jealous of the others who can say the same, and say they have a real power to call their own. Seth despises the feeling of dependency that overwhelms him, reminding him that without all other super-powering humans, he would be nothing. His gift permits him to borrow power, but never to keep it. Whenever he uses his particular gift, he gets a rush and it didn't take long for him to become addicted to it. If Seth goes for too long without the flood of power throughout his body, he breakdown, weak from withdrawals.
The need for power eclipses everything else in his life. It's a permanent shadow over his relationships and prevents him from drawing too close to any particular person. He gets to know someone and before long, his addiction drives him to use them, permanently damaging the relationship beyond repair. He meets people to satisfy his need for the spotlight, and to quench his desire to be wanted, but such an unstable relationship never lasts, once the other person figures out about his dependence, one way or another. Seth lets people see a small part of who he is, but he's inherently vulnerable, and never shows them everything, and most definitely not the addiction that is draining his very core. He's afraid of pain and rejection and afraid of caring so much but still hurting the person he cares for.
History »History is a complicated matter that is best left forgotten. Well, that's how Seth feels about it. Tragic pasts seem to come hand in hand with those who have been gifted beyond that of a normal human. Seth grew up with parents who were never around and in effect they were never there to see Seth act out, trying to get their attention. Another nanny every month was all that Seth got in the way of parenting and no matter what he did, it was never enough to draw his parents home to him. Their absence raised him up to be someone desperate for the spotlight, desperate for any kind of attention, good or bad.
There was a highlight in his life, his birthday. His mom and dad would always come home and spend his birthday with him. It was the one day he felt that he was a part of a real family and that they actually loved him. They'd throw him a big party, invite the majority of the kids in his school and they'd be there the whole day. Just for him. Yet, as he grew older, his parties and gifts would get more elaborate, more expensive, but the frequency of his parent's visits lessened. On his 13th birthday they didn't bother to show up at all.
Torn to pieces by their betrayal of the last good thing in his life, he left his own party, looking for something better to do. One of his friends came with him, a girl, or a tomboy as she constantly reminded him. He was so depressed, she went out of her way to cheer him up, to show him something that would shake him out of his stupor. She showed him that she wasn't normal. She showed him, she could fly. When she landed down beside him something akin to jealousy rose up inside of him, followed with the intense thought that if he was that special, his parents would pay attention to him. With his emotions and thoughts heightened, he touched her shoulder. They both stumbled back with a shock.
A rush of power flooded through his body, its presence electrifying him. Fear crept into his mind and without knowing what was happening, he shot up into the air, careening wildly without any control. He was only in the air mere seconds before the power began to dull and he could feel it leave his system. The emptiness wrenched him apart savagely. Normal. He was normal again. He crashed to the ground and blacked out, waking up in a hospital hours later.
His parents arrived at home, telling him sugar-coated lies about how they were going to be around to take care of him. He didn't believe them and he found that, he didn't really care. He was done with their games. He could find attention somewhere else. The desire for power was constantly on his mind and quickly, his young friend, realized what had happened. Having grown up all her life with the recognition of abilities, she knew what he was. Her family left town not long after, knowing how unpredictable Seth's powers and personality made him.
Not knowing where to find anyone else like his friend, he found other ways to sedate his growing need. His stunts grew more wild and dangerous. He found that he thrived off the adrenaline rush he received. But still, nothing could take the place of absorbing powers. His parents finally learned about his ability, though they first believed he could manipulate earth, courtesy of a kid in his class that he had discovered. Just after he turned 18, they realized how dangerous he truly was, to himself and everyone around him. They talked to therapists, but no one would believe the crazy stories they told. Finally, they were contacted about a school, Silas Academy. It was their last hope and with next to no information about what the school really was, they sent him. Anything to get rid of a son that was drawing such unwanted attention.
