Brief Summary:Blitz is a bit of a complicated person now. He used to be quite simple, but over the years and from his time in the Army, his personality has become more complex. When he was young, Blitz was often neglected by his parents leaving him on his own to wreak havoc. He joined a “gang” in his town that was small, but kept him busy with delinquent type of things. For the most part he enjoyed it for the attention, but at the back of his mind, he knew what he did wasn’t right. One thing he prided himself in was not actually harming other people or taking their money or property.
Now, Blitz could be considered very misunderstood. Having served in the Army, he has a certain quality of following orders without really questioning them. However, he will only follow the orders of respectable people. When around people of his own age or younger, Blitz tends to take on a leadership role or a confrontational one. Quick to get angry and lose his temper, Blitz can sometimes lose control of himself and his power. His depression is not as severe as it once was, but it does hinder him in some aspects. Nightmares of the event plague his mind and sleepless nights have affected his mood.
Despite all that and once Blitz has warmed up to others, he can actually be a fun guy. He loves to laugh and make others laugh, so he does have a sense of humor. Sarcastic tones are frequently used, too, but only around those of his age and never with someone he respects. In all, he’s a misunderstood, moody, gentlemanly, Army guy.
History »Blitz has had a pretty rough life. He grew up in a medium sized city called Lightning Hill in Florida. The name came from the city’s frequent lightning storms that can literally pop up out of the blue. At a young age, Blitz, known as Adrien at the time, was left on his own by both his parents who were too busy in their work lives to care for him like they should. Due to this neglect, the kid went off and joined a small town gang of rough and rowdy boys who never caused too much trouble. If anything they were more of a nuisance to Lightning Hill. Adrien enjoyed his time with this group of guys, but as the years went on their crimes became more violent. Now, Adrien wasn’t much of a violence kind of guy. He swore to himself to never physically harm another person or take their valuables for his personal gain. Unlike the others, he had a conscience and a good set of morals.
At the age of 10, Adrien and his rough and tough boys were playing on the infamous hill where lightning struck the most. Out of the blue, as was normal, a lightning storm rolled into the city striking the ground with 200 bolts of lightning per minute. The boys scattered, but before they all made it, a bolt struck down and zapped Tim, the eldest member of the group. He was dead before his body hit the ground. Seconds later, another bolt made its jagged way and struck Adrien square in the chest. Unlike his buddy, Adrien made it through the storm without a single bit of harm to his persons. When he awoke in the field, he was alone and static jumped all over his body. He sat up confused and frightened, but the electricity didn’t hurt. It tickled with a warm, fuzzy sensation. Facing his palms together a stream of electricity formed between them. Moments later it disappeared as the sounds of an ambulance zoomed to his aid.
The folks in town heard about the incident and talked about him behind his back. They said he was odd, different than they were. It didn’t make sense that Tim died and Adrien lived. Shortly after the incident, the 10 year old began to notice strange things happening. Every time he touched a bit of metal, it gave off a powerful electric shock that did hurt somewhat, but would have been far more painful for others. In time he began to believe that the lightning had messed with his body. The child in him believed he had super powers. In a way, he was right. However, Adrien had always had the ability to manipulate electricity and he wasn’t really a superhero. The lightning simple activated his powers.
The boy’s parents also began to take notice of Adrien and his newfound powers. At first, they tried to deny it, but as the years rolled by things were getting out of hand. Adrien had spoken to an Army recruiter at his high school during one lunch period. It seemed interesting, better than what his parents had planned for him. Adrien had never been interested in going to college. It didn’t seem worth his time. His grades in high school were hardly good enough anyhow. So, talking to his parents, they hastily agreed to let him join the Army at 17 with their signed permission. Later, Adrien realized they just wanted him out of their hair. So be it, he thought. He never cared for them, just like they never cared for him.
So, at the age of 17, Adrien went in for Basic Training at Fort Bennings, Georgia. It was a cruel and harsh 14 weeks, but he made it through. It was a feeling of accomplishment that he had never felt before. It empowered him, made him feel stronger like he was now a better person for having passed what the Army threw at him. The feelings against violence with good morals changed after the Army trained him. Adrien now had to face off against a merciless enemy who would kill him without hesitation. So, in turn, he would have to kill them without hesitation.
He knew that his powers would get him in trouble and kept them under wraps not wanting to get kicked out before he had the chance to do anything. Two weeks after his graduation, he was shipped off to Fort Richardson in Alaska. Adrien was assigned to the 15th CSSB (Combat Sustainment Support Battalion), an Infantry group scheduled to leave for Afghanistan in 6 months. Adrien welcomed the challenge like a naïve child.
While stationed at Fort Richardson, Adrien became very close to a guy name David. The two were instant best friends. They trained together, did workouts together, ate together, and goofed off together. You couldn’t become closer friends than Adrien and David. It was a great way to keep their mind off the imminent danger that awaited them overseas. One afternoon, the pair was talking in the bunks telling stories of their past trying to out-best each other. Adrien casually mentioned how he had once been struck by lightning and lived. David could hardly believe it. Needless to say, Adrien won that round of “who was cooler.” As a joke for Adrien, David dubbed him with his Army nickname of “Blitz.” David soon became known as “Bear.” They were an infamous duo.
After six months, Blitz and Bear were headed for a harsh life in a shithole. Afghanistan. Blitz knew it was going to be hard, but he embraced the trial feeling it would make him a stronger man. Shit. He was wrong. Afghanistan was like no other place. He couldn’t even fathom how hard his life over there would be. If it weren’t for Bear, Blitz would have gone AWOL and just deserted the Army. No, that was a lie. He wouldn’t really, but he sure as hell wished he could. For almost four years, Blitz stayed in Afghanistan rotating in and out sticking by his buddy Bear as much as possible. He saw such horrors there. Every day he wondered if he would die. It grew so hard on him psychologically. It was hard for his entire crew.
Eventually, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was in charge of four men. It was a rank he was proud to wear. If he continued, he could become a lifer and retire from the military at an early age. The benefits would be great. He just had to make it through this, first. That was a task easier said than done. One day, Blitz and Bear were driving down a main supply route. It was supposed to be something simple, but it turned into Blitz’s hellish nightmare. As the humvee drove down the road, a buried IED was triggered by the weight of the vehicle causing it to flip over on its side and explode into a burst of fire. All hell broke loose. Bullets whizzed every which way. Blitz couldn’t tell up from down. All he remembers is yelling out for Bear and getting no response.
Insurgents attacked from a nearby hill causing Blitz to hold off on his search for his friend. He returned fire with an angry battle cry. He was mad with rage and fear. It took a while for backup to arrive. Not long after, the enemy was taken down one by one until they were all dead or had run off. Blitz was going into a mild state of shell shock. It wasn’t his first fire fight, but it was the closest he came to death in a very long time.
Blitz searched for Bear and eventually found him lying in the sand bloodied hands covering a gaping wound in his stomach. When the humvee flipped over after the bomb went off, the Army car exploded sending shrapnel flying everywhere. A hunk of Bear’s stomach was missing. He was very near to death. The worst Blitz suffered was a deep gash to his neck; something he didn’t know existed until he was taken to the hospital.
Blitz cradled Bear close and tried to keep the guy calm while trying to keep himself calm. It wasn’t long before his best friend lie still, dead. The guy cried out letting his emotions go. He couldn’t contain them. When he did, a burst of electricity flew from his body throwing the smoldering humvee away several feet. His best friend was dead. Only hours before, they were driving along listening to rock and laughing at lame jokes. Now he was dead. Blitz was flown to an Army base hospital. He checked out physically with only the gash to his neck and other minor cuts and bruises, but his actions cause everyone to worry about his mental health.
Flown out to a base in Germany, Blitz was physiologically evaluated. He was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and medically discharged from the military. That suited Blitz. He no longer wanted to live in a world where best friends died. He no longer wished to fight the good fight against terrorism. It was no longer his war. The only war he wished he could fight was the war to avenge his fallen brother, but even that was not enough to fight his discharge. Weak and an empty shell of his former self, Blitz gave up and focused on fighting his depression and PTSD.
A doctor at the German base had heard stories of Blitz’s strange emotional breakdown that caused a humvee to move with a blast of some kind of force. As it was, this doctor was a fellow gifted being and recognized Blitz’s ability almost immediately. When confronted about the gift, Blitz denied it. Later, he confessed and the start of his treatment began. He made friends with this doctor and stayed in Germany for a good month. The doctor soon told him about a place called Silas Academy. It was place where Blitz could return to a normal life and get his power under control. It was supposed to be a therapeutic thing for him, to join this academy. Blitz thought it over and finally decided to go. He needed to get away from the past lives he knew. He needed something else, something peaceful. With every fiber of his being, Blitz hoped Silas Academy could provide this for him.
