Brief Summary: Shiloh's behavior towards people varies drastically from his treatment of nature. When it comes to animals, this nineteen year old is nothing short of a gentle soul, now with humans... that's something else. Shiloh is what you might call strongly reliant on first impressions. You step on his toe and he doesn't know you, then a punch is coming for your head. Now if you happen to make a good impression on Shiloh and manage to get into his rather select circle of friends, he'll show you loyalty to the end. Anyone messes with his boys... or girls, they're going to get their face smashed in.
But loyalty put aside, Shiloh is still a difficult one to get along with. He resents those who are far better off than him in terms of wealth and talent. He's constantly brooding over why they deserve such luck while he gets absolute dirt. He's also got himself quite the hatred for those who can fly, all because of his jealous nature. His jealousy knows no bounds. But he's not asking for pity. In fact, he hates that too! Shiloh wants to achieve greatness by his own doing, not from some handout. Shie's also a very temperamental individual: laid back one second and violent the next. Even when he's relaxed he often comes across as sarcastic and snarky.
Power Description »Shiloh can see up to a mile and a half away, zooming in with his unnatural eyes to see minute details. Depending on how far away he focuses, if he zooms out too quickly he could be left with a debilitating headache for a few hours. If his surroundings change from light to dark or dark to light too fast, he may also suffer from migraine like symptoms. Even when he doesn't focus on his power, his vision is like a high definition version of a human's, and he may pick up things humans wouldn't, and can see in the dark too. As for hearing, he's capable of picking up sounds up to two miles away and can focus on specific areas to listen to; whether it be near him, far off, or somewhere in between.
History »
Shiloh was born in Somerset England to parents Andrew and Janine Wright. His parents lived and worked on an owl sanctuary and raised Shiloh to do the same. As a child he would often go around the sanctuary feeding the owls and would even do his homework while inside the gigantic cages. To him it was a dream life, and best of all it was his. But at the age of seven, news reached his family that his cousin Daniel’s parents had died in a car crash but that his cousin had mysteriously survived. They never did learn of exactly how his cousin survived. Rumor was that he would be put up for adoption if no members of his family could care for him. Shiloh begged his parents to let him stay with them but they could barely sustain themselves and the owl sanctuary as it was and adding another child to the family could force them into serious debt. So reluctantly, the Wright family was forced to let Daniel be put up for adoption and Shiloh wouldn’t see him again until he had gone to the academy.
As the years passed the Wright family grew low on money and was on the edge of closing down the sanctuary. Right before they were going to close down they came across a flier that stated: SEEKING WILLING PARTICIPANT FOR TESTING INVOLVING INJECTION OF ANIMAL DNA. THOSE WHO AGREE TO TESTING WILL RECEIVE 5 GRAND FOR COOPERATION.
At the bottom of the flier was a phone number which the desperate family called in order to get more information on the procedure. The scientists informed the family that they could choose a member of their family to participate and they would be injected with the DNA of an animal of their choice. They also insisted that the testing would be completely safe.
Knowing that they needed the money, Shiloh’s family agreed. They originally planned for Shiloh’s father to be the one to participate in the testing but his father had fallen ill with pneumonia and the scientists refused to work with someone in such a weak condition. His mother offered to take his place but they demanded for a male subject. With much reluctance, Shiloh was handed over to the scientists where they injected him with owl DNA as that was the animal he had requested.
The scientists’ goal was for the seventeen year old Shiloh to develop wings like those of the owl. But things didn’t quite go as planned. Instead of growing wings, the boy inherited the incredible sight and hearing of an owl. He also ended up with brilliant orange eyes, for he had been injected with the DNA of an eagle owl which was known for its large orange eyes. Upset with the results of the injections, scientists stopped the testing and gave the boy back to his parents. But without the desired effects, the scientists had wasted money and in order to repay those that they had received funding from they refused to give the family the 5 grand. Without the money to hire a lawyer the Wright family couldn’t sue them and was forced to let the scientists keep the money. They soon closed down the owl sanctuary, only keeping one barn owl by the name of Radar, which happened to be Shiloh’s favorite owl.
It was because that his family lost the owl sanctuary and nearly all of their money that Shiloh grew jealous of those with the ability to fly. For he knew that if he had the ability of flight, the scientists would have paid his family and the owl sanctuary would have remained open. Thus a great hatred grew for all those with wings and the power of flight. He never lost his love for owls though, for to him they remained a part of his childhood and he would never come to dislike them.
Another downside effect of the scientists running off with the money was that Shiloh developed a need for control. Whenever something or someone threatens how much control has over a situation he gets angry and anxious. He wasn't able to do anything about the scientists stealing the money, so now if anyone trys to mess with him or his friends he quickly shows them that you can't get away with just anything when it comes to Shiloh.
As the months went on, Shiloh’s parents were barely scraping by and they were struggling to pay the house bills. His father’s pneumonia was now gone but they found that they didn’t have enough money to provide for the three of them. His parents soon conjured up an idea to send Shiloh away to live with someone else. Shiloh’s parent’s were about to put him up for adoption when they heard about Silas Academy. They knew that the Academy was perfect for their son but the costs were just too high. But they were determined and after much pleading with the Headmistress he was allowed in provided that the parents eventually pay off the money. Shiloh agreed to attend the academy on one condition, that he be allowed to take Radar with him so that he may always have a bit of home with him. The Academy agreed as long as he would pay for everything the owl needed and Shiloh quickly accepted the deal.
Now in his second year at Silas, nineteen year old Shiloh is trying hard to keep his powers in check while trying to build a better future for himself and his family. His parent’s are slowly rebuilding all that they lost and have already paid back much of the money they owed the Academy.
