Brief Summary:
Serinity is typically a light hearted, playful, go with the flow kind of girl. However, the more she thinks about the outside world, the most she becomes unhappy and anxious. Silas Academy has always been like a prison to her, something she has always hated. While she does enjoy being a student at the academy, Serinity would prefer it if she were allowed to get out and see the world on her own terms. This is a driving force for her causing her to become slightly rebellious in her last years at Silas.

She fears that her grandmother will make her stay once she has reached the age of 22, for Rini does not yet have full control of her powers. This lack of control makes her dread what she is capable of, but at the same time, Serinity adores her powers. It is well known that Serinity has quite the temper, too. When it gets the best of her, the weather tends to turn nasty. She loathes that people always think the nasty weather is because of her emotions. It also bothers her when people think of her differently because she is the Headmistress’ granddaughter or because of the fact that she’s bisexual.

Unlike most of the people who attend Silas, Serinity was born on the grounds themselves. Serinity’s mother, Lily Ann, was also born at Silas and grew up there. She hated being stuck at the academy and left as soon as she could. Having fallen in love with another Silas student, the two went out into the work to make a life for themselves. Several years after their leaving, Lily Ann became pregnant. For nine months she carried Serinity in her stomach dead set on keeping her child out of Silas for as long as possible. Fate and her mother had other plans. Lillian convinced Lily Ann to come back and have Serinity at the academy. At that time, there was a great unrest in the school and Lillian was unable to leave for any amount of time. To please her mother, Lily Ann agreed to stay for a couple of months. No more than that.

Serinity was born as a healthy bouncing baby on August 4, 1991. She was greatly loved by all her family and cherished by the staff. Lily Ann stayed true to her word and stayed for five months. She could not stand any more time than that and left to return to her true home in Vermont with her husband. Lily Ann was resolute on Rini having a proper childhood. She got what she wanted for a time. At the age of 3, the young Serinity began to display signs of having powers of her own. As it turned out Serinity could control the weather. At first she could only do some of the simplest things like call a small cloud into the vicinity or start the lightest of rains. As she aged she progressed in power capabilities. By the age of five she could call in a weak thunderstorm and summon a medium strength wind.

Once she reached the age of five, tragedy struck the Dawson family. Her father, a fire manipulator, lost control of his powers for the tiniest of moments. Some furniture caught on fire sending the house into a blazing frenzy in no time at all. The two story house they owned trapped them inside not allowing the family to flee. Firefighters came to their rescue but only Serinity was saved. During the fire, her father was trapped under a section of the collapsing house while trying to find a way out. Her mother suffered severe smoke inhalation causing her to suffocate before help came. Serinity only made it out alive due to the perseverance of the brave firefighter who saved her and her mother’s sacrifice. When things went from bad to worse, Serinity’s mother tightly wrapped her child in a damp towel keeping her nose and mouth covered as well. Lillian suspected that Serinity’s survival instincts kicked in putting up a small zero-oxygen barrier around her to keep her safe. Otherwise, her mother’s attempts may not have been full proof.

In her mother’s will, Lily Ann stated that in the case of her unlikely death, Serinity would be sent to Silas Academy to be raised by her grandmother, the closest surviving relative. From the age of five until the present day, Rini has been stuck at Silas Academy like her mother had been. Her only taste of the outside world is the nearby town of Willowbrook. Someday, she will leave Silas Academy. When she does, the entire world will be her playground and nothing will hold her back.
