Breathe
The chattering of students and professors, among other sounds, could be heard through the open window, but Revan Ashkevron, better known as Spark, was paying no attention to the sounds. Seated cross-legged on her bed, the eighteen-year-old empath was deep in meditation, attempting to rebuild the shields that protected her mind from the onslaught of emotions of the world around her. Soft music played from the speakers of an iPod, adding to the calming atmosphere of the room.
Breathe
The room itself, decorated with cool blues and greens, was empty of all but its usual two occupants, Revan herself, and Rinzler, Revan's large silver-gray cat. Said cat was curled up at the foot of Revan's bed, watching the girl. There was a full bookcase along one wall, and drawings of various sorts and photos sparsely decorated the other three. A desk stood in one corner, and Revan's laptop computer sat on it, closed and shut down. A dresser stood near the desk, and there were some other shelves around, the surfaces of bother were half-way covered with projects in various stages of completion. A soft knock at the door brought Revan out of her trance and she sighed. Here I was hoping to get to finish the cycle this time, she thought, opening her emerald slit-pupil eyes. Oh well.

Emmie wandered down the hallway of the girls dormitory. She wasn't on her way to her room though, instead she was trying to figure out exactly where she was. She was pretty sure it was a dormitory but whether it was the girls' or boys' she had no clue. She was a little frightened to ask anyone as she didn't want to seem like an idiot but she knew that if she wanted to sleep sometime she would need to know which dormitory to go in.
So with a sigh she knocked on the door numbered A-1 and held her breath as she waited for someone to answer. Honestly she would be a little happy if nobody was there as she wasn't all that good with talking with new people. But a part of her hoped for someone to be there as she needed to find out eventually where she was. Her hand gripped the strap of her backpack so hard her knuckles turned white but when she noticed she relaxed her grip in an attempt to make herself look not too nervous.

Revan opened the door to find a frightened fourteen-year-old girl looking up at her. Revan was suddenly very glad she had spent the last half-hour meditating. She pulled her shields tight, trying to block out the other's fear, but finally she had no choice. She hoped that the other would forgive her for using her abilities as such, but she hadn't seen any other choice. Fear was the emotion that, when Revan encountered it in others, affected her the worst. Fear and anger, but she could shield against anger. Fear was far more insidious. Taking a deep breath, Revan gently uncoiled and extended a tendril of power and draped it around the younger teen's shoulders, calming her. As the power took effect, Revan was able to relax."Hello," she said with a smile. "Can I help you with something?"
Before the girl could answer, Rinzler slipped out through the doorway and twined himself around the younger girl's legs. Revan's smile widened. "Rinzler likes you. Would you like to come in?" She knelt to pick up the cat, and Rinzler resisted for a moment before relaxing and nuzzling Revan's face again. Revan opened the door wider and stepped back, offering the other the chance to enter. "I'm Revan, by the way," she said. "Call me Spark. What's your name?"

Emmi looked up to see a female student, which automatically answered her question as to whether or not it was the girls' dorm. Her eyes fell upon the girl's cat-like green eyes and the strange dark markings that started from her eyes and extended out to her cheeks. She couldn't stop the gasp from escaping her mouth as the markings were a little unexpected. Emily was contemplating whether to run off down the hall when she felt an instant feeling of calm seep into her body. Her muscles went from being tensed to a more relaxed form. She had never had such a drastic change of mood and the thought hit her that the girl in front of her must be an empath.
She let out a small sound of understanding, "Oh . . ." before she adressed the question asked. "Well I was going to ask you if this was the girl's dorm but seeing you sort of helped me figure it out." Emily smiled sheepishly but then felt something brush against her leg. She jumped a little at the unexpected movement but looked down to see a cat winding around her legs. She soon learned his name was Rinzler and bent down to pet his fur. "Hi Rinzler." She stroked Rinzler's fur, smiling at the unexpected cat.
At the offer to go into the girl's dorm Emily was at first reluctant but figured that the girl was nice enough and stepped inside. "Okay Spark. And my name is Emily, but you can call me Emmi."
