Footsteps padded across the cool green grass of the courtyard. Other students cast questioning glances at the new guy. "Is that the new guy?" "How long has he been here?" were the commonly whispered questions. Cassel didn't have heightened senses, but he knew by the looks he was given that they were obviously talking about him.
He wasn't surprised, though. He was the new kid after all. People had the right to question him. For all they knew, he was some mindless serial killer that could snap at any moment, or he was the lovable teddy bear that everyone would absolutely adore. More or less, Cassel was the lovable teddy bear. He always had been a lovable teddy bear.
It was Cassel's first day here at Silas Academy. He had stepped off that airplane with more than just physical baggage. He had no idea what to expect here. Everyone here could be mindless zombies, or the entire school could have been a trap to draw in mutants and use them as test subjects. Cassel shuddered at that thought.
After dropping off his luggage in his dorm room, taking a short nap, and phoning his parents to tell them he had made it, Cassel made his way to the courtyard. A public place was a great way to meet new people, right? At least, that's how it was back in Oklahoma. Everything was different here.
Cassel finally arrived at his point of interest. Here, in the center of this courtyard, was a fountain. A gorgeous one, at that. Yep, definitely different than back home.
Normally, Cassel would be walking around and meeting everyone. Today, though, he felt the need to be a little more reserved. Was it because he was homesick? He figured that if someone wanted to meet him, they would come up to him first. With this thought in mind, Cassel sat on the edge of the fountain and watched as students and professors strolled through the courtyard. He hoped his first day would be the big bang he needed here.

With her eyes practically glued to the pages of her hefty biochemistry textbook, Alex sat on the ground next to the fountain, using the stone rim of it as a backrest. She had just gotten out of her last class of the day and decided to get ahead on the assigned readings while enjoying some fresh air out in the courtyard. But she found it difficult to concentrate on her studies; the courtyard was becoming filled with students who were also getting out of class for the day. Many of them stopped and chatted with each other, catching up with the day’s gossip.
The healer heard a group of students nearby asking each other about a new student. Her eyes lifted from the pages with interest and she glanced around, not sure if the person they were talking about was around or not. A few seconds later, she spotted the teen as he strolled over to a spot on the edge of the fountain and took a seat. Never the one to pass up the chance to meet a new person and potentially make another friend, Alex shut her book and stuffed it in her backpack before getting to her feet.
As she approached, she studied his face closely, trying to determine whether he seemed to want company or not. But she was unable to decipher his mood before she came to a stop in front of him. “Hello, I’m Alexandria, but you can call me Alex,” she reached her hand out in front of her to shake his in greeting. “I hear that your new to Silas. What’s your name?” A broad smile easily spread across her face, she loved meeting new people and was excited to be one of the first to greet this newcomer.“I’ve never seen you around before, you must be really new. How long have you been here?” She settled onto the edge of the fountain next to him, curious about the newest student at Silas Academy.

Cassel looked up at the girl. Alexandria, she said. "Alexandria," he said quietly. A smile played his lips. She was pretty cute, if he didn't mind saying so. He wrapped his hand gently around her own and brought it closer to him. He gently kissed the back of her hand, then looked back up at her with a cutesy smile. "Well, what a gorgeous name for a gorgeous lady like yourself. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss. I'm Cassel."
He stood up and offered his seat to her. "Please, take a seat. It's not very chivalrous for me to let you stand there."
He ran a hand through his hair, his glorious, golden-blonde, wavy, to-die-for hair. "Ahh, I've been here maybe an hour or two. Not very long. But less talk of me, and more talk of you," he said, another flirty smile cast at her. "What's a pretty girl like yourself doing out here alone? That's not safe, especially for a delicate lil' flower like yourself," he said with a playful wink.
Cassel honestly hoped he wasn't making her feel awkward or uncomfortable. That would be the worst for both of them. He rolled the sleeves up on his jacket, the slight sight of the muscles of his forearms rippling a bit as he did so.

Alex was thankful that no one she knew was around to witness her reaction to the teen’s flattering gesture. Her cheeks grew pink with blush and her mouth fell slightly ajar as she felt his lips press against her hand. It wasn’t quite the greeting she had been expecting, but it was a welcomed greeting nonetheless. Now why can’t the rest of the guys here be more like him? She thought to herself as she gazed upon the gold haired gentlemen. Alex smiled at his complement before chiming in with a playful tone, “Well aren’t you quite the charmer Mr. Cassel?” The healer was glad that she’d decided to get up and meet the new guy, he was quite entertaining and very fun to look at.
Everything he said or did took her by surprise. Before she could sit next to him, he’d gotten up and offered his to her in a very polite and suave manner. She was happy to oblige and was still smiling as she settled into the spot where he had been sitting moments before. “Well thank you. But don’t you want to sit?” As she asked she patted the spot beside her, not wanting him to have to feel like he had to stand for her benefit. Losing her train of thought as she watched his golden locks fall back into place after Cassel ran his hand through it, Alex hardly heard his answer to her earlier question.
Another large smile formed on her face at his next question and she couldn’t help but giggle when he called her a flower. She wasn’t entirely sure whether he was serious or was just working his charm on her, but she figured she could play along. “I was studying for a class, actually,” she began with a casual tone, before phasing into her role of the “delicate flower” and adding with the voice of a damsel in distress, “but then I realized that it wasn’t safe out here, in the courtyard. So I thought I’d seek the company of a big strong man like yourself, just in case.” Alex couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous she must have sounded. She hoped that he would realize she was joking and was just playing along.
Once again, her attention was dragged away from the conversation once she caught sight of his arms. There was something about muscles that always managed to distract the girl. She could see the way they moved beneath his gorgeous skin and found it hard to peel her gaze away. Subconsciously she wished that she could see more, but once she was able to get a hold of herself, she gave herself a good mental kick as she pulled her gaze back to his face. Hoping that she didn’t get caught, Alex tried to start up a conversation, “So uh, whats your power?”

"Takes a charmer to know a charmer," Cassel said, smiling lightly once more.
She patted the seat next to her, requesting he take a seat. "I guess I will if you want me to," he said. He began to sit down. His muscular arm rubbed against her as he attempted to balance himself onto the fountain's edge, and his broad shoulder brushed against her shoulder when he finally did sit down. "Now, now. Don't worry, Miss. I'm here to protect you now. I can't let you get hurt. What kind of person would I be?"
He chuckled a bit at her next question. "My power? I can manipulate time. Y'know, freeze the world for a short period of time. I freeze it for too long, and I pass out," he said. "But, my world kind of froze for good once I laid eyes on you," Cassel said silkily, pressing against her lightly in a flirtatious manner as a smile spread across his face once more. "What about you?"
Had she said she was studying? That sparked some interest in Cassel. What exactly did a school for the "gifted" teach? "Superpowers and You"? He chuckled at the thought, and his gorgeous, pearly-white, makes-you-melt smile erupted the scene once more.

Oddly enough, the feeling of his broad and powerful shoulders against her brought her a sudden sense of security that she hadn’t been expecting. She knew they had been joking earlier, but it still managed to have an effect on her. She shifted slightly in her seat, angling her body more towards him so she could see his face better. What a great view. She was suddenly interested when he began to describe his power. Alex had never met someone who could control time before. “Wow that sounds so awesome and crazy at the same time. I can’t imagine passing out if I used my power too much.”
At his next statement Alex started laughing some more. She was sure that her abs would be sore by the end of the day from all of this laughing. “Well in that case, you’d better not take your eyes off. You’ll probably end up passed out until the end of time,” she jested back with a flirtatious tone before giving his broad chest a nudge with her elbow. She was surprised by how hard his chest was and knew that she would probably like what was hidden beneath his shirt.
Her gaze fell upon his arms again, but this time she noticed an angry red gash on the inside of his right forearm. It must have bled quite a bit earlier, but it looked like the wound was beginning to clot, although it looked like it could open up and start bleeding at any minute. Alex failed to hear him ask about her own power as she reached out and took his right hand. “What did you do yourself?” Her voice was chastising as she pulled his arm and rested it on her lap before placing her left hand directly over the wound. Though very faint in the daylight, a soft blue light was emitted from her hand that was pressed on his wound; it was the healing energy. “I’m a healer, by the way.” She mentioned with a smile. After about a minute, she lifted her hand from the wound and what was left was just a pink scar. “I can make the scar go away too, unless you would like to keep it. Scars on men can be very attractive,” her voice trailed as she winked.

"I should, but I can't take my eyes off," he said. He gently took hold of her chin, and gazed into her eyes, her gorgeous gems for eyes. "At least I'd pass out knowing that time froze because I saw the most gorgeous girl in the world. I'd stop the world for you, Alexandria," he said with a small smile.
Thoughts started flooding through his mind. Actions beat his thoughts, and before he knew it, Cassel was leaning in closer to her. Closer and closer they came towards each other. He felt her warm breath against his face. Cassel wrapped his free arm around her waist and pulled her closer. They continued to come closer. Their lips grazed, and the kiss was about to land...
Cassel opened his eyes and pulled away quickly. "Duhh.... ahh...." he said, blushing lightly. His arm was still around her, so it was safe to say he didn't know it was there. "I uh.... I'm sorry about that, Alexandria," he stammered out.
He glanced down at his arm. Had she healed him? Wow, that was remarkable! He saw the faint pink scar, and heard her comment. He was just too embarrassed and nervous now to make a witty and flirtatious comeback.

Alex’s laughs ceased when she felt his hand on her chin, ever so gentle, yet meaningful at the same time. She always had a hard time looking straight into someone’s eyes, but she had no other choice but to gaze back into his beautiful green eyes. As he spoke, Alex could see that all pretenses were gone, the playful and flirtatious tone that was in his voice was replaced by one that was more serious. The healer wasn’t entirely sure what had come over her, but she found herself leaning in towards him. She couldn’t stop, and she wasn’t entirely sure if she wanted to.
At the feeling of a strong arm around her waist, a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. But when she was suddenly pulled closer, she breathed in sharply, yet inaudibly. She was surprised, but even more shocking to her was that she liked it. Alex could nearly feel his lips on hers and it felt as if her heart had ceased to beat for a moment there. But then he pulled away. She could feel the warmth coming from his breath leave her as he drew back and her eyes opened, confused. Oh. Too fast? She asked herself, but when she looked into his eyes, she was quite sure that he didn’t feel that way.
When he apologized, the smile began to pull at her lips again as she retorted. “You’ve been quite the gentleman up until now Cassel. The only thing you should be sorry for is leaving a girl hanging like that.” Before he could even respond, Alex quickly leaned into him, and, without another moment of hesitation, she let her lips meet with his. As she took in the moment, Alex failed to realize that she had leaned in with a bit too much force. A moment later the two had lost balance and went spilling into the fountain, Cassel going in backwards with Alex falling on top of him.

Cassel sighed. He hadn't meant to make her feel uncomfortable in any way, but he knew that that was inevitable now. "Alexandria, I'm--"
He was cut off as she pressed her lips against his. He made a muffled sound of shock at first, but it turned into a moan of satisfaction as his eyes closed and his arms wrapped tighter around her.
Caught in the moment, he didn't realize they were falling back. He only discovered the matter when his back started to freeze. Instantly, he opened his eyes. Instinct kicked in, and the splash wave froze in midair. He could manage to get wet, he didn't care, but he didn't want her chilling. In this frozen realm, he pushed himself, her riding atop him, and settled her back on the edge of the fountain. He kept a hold of her hand. As long as she was touching him, she could move freely, unaffected by the time freeze. "Phew. You almost got drenched, Alexandria. We can't let that happen again," he said with a smile. "Sink in the beauty, because everything's going back to normal..." He counted to ten and snapped. The wave fell back into the water, no victims in its zone. "Now."
"Gah, my shirt's all wet now," he said as he felt his back. "But at least you're safe." He hadn't really expected to show her his powers just yet, but when push comes to shove, you have to push back.
Dizziness rolled through his head. Doppelgangers of everything filled his vision. Cassel rubbed his temples and sat down back next to Alex. He took relaxing, deep breaths and closed his eyes. After it passed, he looked back at her with a smile. "Well now. That was unexpected," Cassel said with a wink.

Alex’s eyes flashed open when she began to feel herself falling and she could see the water drawing nearer and nearer as they fell. She let out a small gasp and her eyes shut tight when she thought that she would be submerged in the chilly waters of the fountain. Instead, she felt nothing. After a few seconds she hesitantly opened her eyes again to find that everything had stopped, except for her and Cassel. Her expression was shocked as she gazed at the water suspended in the air right in front of her. What’s happening? She’d forgotten all about what Cassel had said about his power since she was so caught up in the moment.
It wasn’t until she was once again seated on the edge of the fountain that she realized what had happened. That was when she noticed that everyone around them was frozen too, just like the water. She saw a professor stuck in midstride as he tried to walk across the courtyard and a group of laughing students frozen with great smiles on their faces. When she looked up at Cassel though, he was still there, still moving. She smiled up at him in disbelief, before taking one last look at the world that was stuck in time.
“That was probably the single most amazing experience I’ve had in my life,” she said in a breathless tone as she watched the people around them go along with their business as if nothing had ever changed. When he commented about his wet shirt, Alex felt bad, he must have been freezing. “Want to head inside so you can get a change of clothes? It would be terrible if you caught a cold. I’m a bit of a germaphobe.” The healer rose to her feet and picked up her backpack before waiting on Cassel.

"That's cute," he said with a laugh. "But naw, it's cool." With that comment, he pulled his shirt off, revealing his smooth, rock hard, washboard abs and toned muscles. Cassel had brought a jacket with him, just in case it got cool, and had luckily set it aside. He turned around, searching for his misplaced jacket. "Now where did I..." he trailed off.
He laid his eyes on the jacket, and picked it up. He turned back around to Alex as he put the jacket on. "I'm sorry you have to witness this, Alexandria. I didn't expect to take a swim," he said with a chuckle. He heard a few giggles and wolf whistles from passerby. "But yeah, that's my power. I love seeing things frozen. The most gorgeous is on a windy autumn day when all the leaves are blowing," he said.
He buttoned up his jacket all the way, and only a bit of his upper chest remained visible. "Again, I'm really sorry about that. I never intended to give you a 'little show,' honestly. I'm really sorry, Alexandria," he said. He was truly embarrassed. He didn't want her to think he was some perv or sex addict or something. He was just a guy with an incredibly hot body.
